to Henry Secord) and Oliver S.Hanson (1862-1937) I do
have the basic birth and death info for all but Isabel
and an obit for Henry but would like any info for
periods in between (marriages, stories, obits, etc). If
these people show up in your research I would love to
hear from you.
- ELMORE,
GILMOUR, THOMPSON posted by Marilyn Elmore on Thursday,

- I just received my grandmothers birth certificate,
and according to it, in 1910, there was a section of the
city called "key West.". I am trying to locate the area
on the 1910 census sheets, but really don't have a clue.
Does any one out there know of this area? do you know
perhaps what ward it is or was concidered to be in thru
the 1910 census? Your help would be most welcome in this
search. Thank you

- I am not familiar with a section of Grand Forks
called "Key West," but it certainly could have existed.
Might this have been a small, rural area. Also, there
was a small village called "Key West" in Polk County,
not far from East Grand Forks, which is just across the
river. What names are you researching?

- Any thing is possible, my grandmother's birth
certificate asks what county, and it says grand forks,
and below that asks what city and it says Grand Forks,
but it has just come to me, that that is where the hosp.
is that she was born in, and her parents resided in the
little town of key west that you speak of in Polk
County. But I thought Polk County was in Mn. Was there
also one in Grand Forks? Or have misunderstodd your
meaning? Would it have been closer for a person living
in Key West to have their baby in a hosp. in the city of
Grand Forks, rather then say Crookston in Mn.? The
family line I as searching is Elmore, Gilmour, Thompson.
Grandmother was born a Gilmour, and her mother was a
Thompson. She married Chester Elmore. The Glimour line
is from Mn. and my Grandmother married Chester in
Crookston Mn. By the way I need to let you know how
grateful I truely am for your information.

- Marilyn, I'm not positive that there wasn't a place
called Key West in Grand Forks County, but I doubt it.
You could try contacting Sandy Slater,
sandy_slater@mail.und.nodak.edu, at the University of ND
and ask her. East Grand Forks, Polk County, MN and Grand
Forks, Grand Forks County, ND are "twin cities"
separated by the Red River of the North. The river is
also the state boundry. EGF has never had a hospital, so
births and deaths commonly occurred in GF. In my family,
all 26 in my generation were raised in EGF and had ND
birth certificates. Key West was a very small village
north of EGF (my stepgrandparents were from there). It
no longer exists. The closest hospital would have been
in GF. Did any of these people live in Key West when
they died? If so, it is possible they were in a GF
hospital at the time. You could try ordering a death
certificate (with credit card) at vitalrec@state.nd.us.
I'd also suggest that you go to www.usgenweb.com, follow
the links to Polk County, MN and post an inquiry there.
I did a quick check of my Polk books but did not find
the surnames you noted. If you like, email me off-list
at jraymond651@aol.com with more detailed information on
these names and I can check some more. Let me know if
you have further questions.

- Dear Manvel historians: I'm just getting started in
genealogy and am looking for information on the Peter P.
Hamre family who lived in Manvel from c. 1880-1908.
Peter was my great grandfather and ran a store there
until it burned down and the family moved to Thief River
Falls, MN. I am particularly interested in getting the
names of the children in the family. I believe four are
buried there that died before reaching adulthood. My
Grandmother, Bertha Alvina Hamre was born in Manvel 13
May 1894. Any help from census, church (Lutherans, of
course) or cemetary records would be appreciated.
Sincerely, Dave Becker

family. Ralph Schjeldahl born Oct.4, 1885, died Oct.
1972. He is burried in Gilby Township but may have also
lived in Honeyford and Johnstown North Dakota. I am
interested in his descendents and ancestors. He may be
the link I am missing in my family tree. I would also
like to know the nationality of the name Schjeldahl. I
think it is Norwegian but I am not sure. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
