These MCDONALDS and all of the others except the GRAYS came from the Prescott Co. area of Ontario, to the border of Walsh and Grand Forks Counties. The first of the group, John McDonald started farming in the old Strabane township. The rest of the family came out a year later in 1879. They included Johns folks, Matthew and Esther McDonald, his brothers Jim and Bill, their families a half brother, William CALDER, Bills wife Anne MALCOLMSON Jims wife, Kitty MCVICKER and her mom Granny DOYLE and a Archie DICKSON. Once out there, Johns oldest son Alonzo married an Isabella GRAY, daughter of old time Dakota guy Julius GRAY..
