Is there a place near Thompson that was once known as Pleasant View - or does anyone know where Pleasant View would be? Some of the above folks have listed their residence as Pleasant View, North Dakota, on marriage licenses, & other things. We thought they lived in Thompson. I'm looking for possible burial site for Sophie Whipple, and Pleasant View might be a clue! Thanks!.

About 1881, the children of Russell & Mary Allen WHIPPLE migrated from Henry County, Illinois to Thompson, North Dakota. Here Edwin farmed, & Edwin & Sophie, his sister, who acted as a mother to the family, since there parents had died in Henry County, in 1870 & 1873, are both listed as landowners in 1885. Sister Mary Nellie married Fred YORK, originally from Hyde Park, Wabasha County, Minnesota, in 1884. They had 5 children - and then Mary Nellie died in 1898. Her sister Lillian came to care for the children & stayed to become Mr. YORKS's second wife, and they had 3 more children. Edwin married Mary FOX, daughter of Richard & Mary FOX, in 1889 & youngest sister Daisy married Samuel C. MARBURGER, from Ludington, Michigan in 1889, & they moved back to Ludington, Michigan. Many Allen cousins lived in the nearby area, some Tuttle cousins also, & cousin Willis WHIPPLE also. In 1893 older brother Charles WHIPPLE & wife Alice FLANSBURG came to live in Thompson, nearby, al! so. AFter the turn of the century, Edwin & his family of 3 children moved on to Fort McLoed, Alberta, Canada, cousins Will moved to Anacortes, Washington, Charles & Alice moved to Anoka, Minnesota, & Fred & LIllian York & their large family moved to Medford, Oregon. Some Allen cousins moved on to California, & soon the family was not known any longer in the Thompson area they had called home for over 20 years. I would welcome any information about these families, said to live in Pleasant View, and/or Thompson, North Dakota in many documents from the late 1800's..

KLEVEGAARD posted by Wayne Cann on Thursday, May 25, 2000

My mother, Myrtle Irine Klevegaard, was born on the wagon trek from Norway to Canada on Jan 21, 1912. She was born on either the Minnesota or North Dakota side of the river near Grand Forks. I am of the belief that the church were she was registered at burned down leaving no records. Does anyone have any ideas how I could trace my mother's records? Her family homesteaded near Scout Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. Grand Forks County, North Dakota or Polk County, Minnesota is were she was born. Thank you...Wayne Cann.
