HANSEN posted by Devery Anderson on Sunday, May 2, 1999

John HANSEN, my great-great grandfather. According to the 1880 mortality schedule, he died in March of 1880 at age 27, of "BRIGHTSDIS" (anyone know what that was?) The township platt of Lakeville Township has his land on the southern border, but the 1880 census has his widow and children living in Blooming Township. His wife was Carrie, and his children were Mary, age 2, Randine, age 1 and John, one month. The son, John died as a baby or very young boy. I have been trying to find out where both Johns are buried, when they were born, and the exact dates of death. I've also been trying to find out when and where John and Carrie were married. According to the 1880 census, John was born in Wisconsin. I'd like to find his parents and trace him back to Norway. He is the only Scandinavian branch of the family I am stuck on. Were any newspapers published in Grand Forks County in March, 1880 that may mention an obituary for him? If anyone can lead me to some sources in your county that would help me, I'll love you forever! Devery Anderson

DOCKEN, FALLOWS posted by Carol Docken on Sunday, May 2, 1999

I am trying to trace my husbands family genealogy but am between a rock and a hard place. His mother's maiden name was Florence Docken and she was born in Grand Forks 14 Nov 1912 to Louis E & Laura Larsen Fallows. Both parents immigrated from Norway. Laura in 1903, she went to Washington & California before ending up in Grand Forks. Apparently she worked in several restaurants for an Uncle??? We have been told that this Uncle opened a restaurant in Grand Forks (1907?) Louis immigrated in 1903 but immigration papers show his name to be spelled as Falos. Louis & Laura also had another daughter named Eleanor who was born in 1917. Louis & Laura both died in GF him in 1931 and her in 1924. Laura also had a sister in Norway when she died. Any help with information on Louis or Laura would sure be appreciated.

ROOSA posted by Carmen on Monday, May 17, 1999

Hi there, I am seeking any information on a John William Roosa b: 1837 in Ohio and d: 1901 Jamestown, Stutsman County, N.D. John married Mary (I don't know her last name) b: 1866 in Norway and d: 1943 Homer,Stutsman County, N.D. I found a mention of John in the Grand Forks newspaper in 1882 looking at land in Larimore. These two were married in either Grand Forks or Larimore in 1883 - 1884. They had 5 children. Matthew Mathias, Andrew, Daniel, Fredrick and Mary(Matty). I found Mary and children on the 1900 census in Turtle River Twnshp, and John in the state poor farm and hospital. I have found that Dakota Territorial records are few and far between and when available are sketchy at best. If anyone has information on this couple could you please contact me by my e-mail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your time, Carmen.

LESTRUD, LUND posted by Dick Moore on Monday, June 21, 1999

Does anyone have any further information on Agnes LESTRUD? My Great Grandfather was Iver A LESTRUD, Born in Valdres Norway, married in 1888 in Park River ND to Christina Carry Odden, Son of Alf Lestrude (Leistrude) & Karen Lestrude (Leistrude) both born in Valdres Norway. I do not know if he had any other brothers or sisters or another wife as he and Christina separated in the early 1900 when she moved with her children to Montana and took up a homestead. Agnes Lestrud is listed in an entry with her husband, Jhalmer M. Lund, in the Blooming Township section. Jhalmer's parents were from Norway, and farmed 8 miles west of Grand Forks. There are 7 children listed for Jhalmer and Agnes: Orland (New Brighton MN), Kenneth (rural Grand Forks County), Duane (Emerado ND), Lyle (Grand Forks), Merle "Mike" (deceased), Everett "Jim" (rural Grand Forks County), and Joyce (Mrs Fred Julian, Tulsa OK). Agnes died in 1938. Jhalmer later married Laura Pederson of rural GF. Mr Lund was GF County sheriff from 1932 - 1936. He had 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He and Laura died in 1965.
