Kent Quesenberry, age 60, passed away surrounded
by loved ones on Monday, May 31st, 2021. He is preceded in death by his
father Avis Quesenberry, sister Loretta Quesenberry Templeton, brother
Gregory Lane Quesenberry, and father-in-law Bill Robbins as well as
cherished grandparents, other family, and friends.
Kent was an outstanding husband, father, and
friend to everyone he knew. He is survived by his best friend and wife of
35 years Joni, his treasured daughters Billie Quesenberry (Kerry) and
Jessie Quesenberry (Wesley), his mother Joyce Quesenberry, two sisters
Karen Coleman (Rob), Juanita Linkous (Jimmy), two brothers Bruce
Quesenberry (Sharon), Pat Quesenberry (Sabrina).
Uncle Kent adored and was so proud of all his
nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Also in survival are his mother-in-law Jody
Robbins and special sisters-and-brothers-in-law.
Kent will be especially missed by his beloved fur-son Crash and their treasured rides to the river.
Kent was the proud founder and owner of
Riverbluff Plumbing since 1995. He went into business for himself to
provide the best life for his family. He began plumbing in 1982 and was a
Master Plumber and Class B Contractor who took pride in his work. He was
diligent and ethical in everything he did. He was a master in his trade and
built many houses in the Floyd and Montgomery area. It was recently said
“Kent was not just a Master Plumber he was a Master at life.” He will be
greatly missed amongst the construction community.
Any time you see a river just know one of Kent’s
favorite things to do was just sit by the river and listen to the water. He
attended every single sporting event or honors ceremony that his daughters
had. Every single one. He supported his friends and family in anything they did and offered his wisdom for every
situation. Kent did not know a stranger and could make anyone’s day with a
“Good Morning Young Man or Woman” greeting. He loved watching sports,
especially Duke basketball and his favorite football team the Raiders. Most
importantly Kent loved his family more than anything. The loss of Kent will
be felt forever by those who knew him.
A graveside visitation and service will be held
at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd, VA on Saturday June 5th, 2021. The
family will receive friends from 10am-11am and a service will follow at

Richard Garfield Radford, 102, of Floyd, father,
grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, went peacefully
Home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, August 20,
2013. He was born November 10, 1910, when William Howard Taft was our 27th
President, and the year E.B. Mabry began operating his gristmill near the
Meadows of Dan. He was the son of the late Pete and Lula Radford, who lived
to be 105 years old. He lived his entire life in Floyd County, within a
five mile radius of where he was born.
He is preceded in death by Velma Blackwell
Radford, his beloved wife of 70 years; his son, Shirley; his brother,
McRae; and his granddaughter-in-law, Deb Wood.
Those who
remain to cherish his memory are his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Annie
Ruth and Melvin Wood, who faithfully cared for Garfield in his declining
years; his sister, Ora Radford Huff; grandsons, Garland Wood, David (Joli)
Wood, and Glen Radford (Michelle); granddaughter, Sharon Radford Clark
(Allen); great-granddaughters, Stacy Wood Wilgus (Nathan), and Addison
Clark; great-grandson, Jack Clark; great-great-grandson, Drake Wilgus;
daughter-in-law, Lois Radford Reynolds (Wayne); niece, Joyce Huff Reed;
nephew, Dorsey Huff; and his best friend, Bud Lorleburg.
He was a member
of Silver Leaf Church of the Brethren, where he served as deacon, and Red
Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, where he proudly claimed perfect
attendance for many years.
In his early
years he helped build Hwy 221 with his father Pete and grandfather Marion,
who was a country road superintendent. In his life he farmed, trapped,
worked for Johnson Carper and Singer Furniture Company and Floyd Mutual
Fire Insurance Company as an adjuster. He also loved fishing and hunting
and was an excellent marksman.
He was known as
a loyal, appreciative friend and a perfect gentleman to all who crossed his
path. Those who knew him well understood his love of Snapper lawn mowers
and catfish, especially if they happened to live in his prized fish pond.
Garfield's life
is not over; it was just begun. Garfield would agree with Paul when he
said, "For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the
time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have
finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up
for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have
loved His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:6-8
The family
would like to express a special thanks to Curtis and Brenda Huff, who
faithfully took Garfield to church for years and to the staff members at
Skyline Nursing and Rehabilitation for their compassionate and loving care
over these last eight months.
A service to
worship God and to celebrate Garfield's life will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor
Hebron Quesenberry and Pastor Jimmy Cannaday officiating. Interment will

Ola Peyton Reed "Ole" FLOYD, Va. - Saturday, January
4, 2014, a son of the Living God found his way home to the Father. Ola
Peyton Reed "Ole", 96, was born on December 22, 1917, to the home
of Noah Clayton Reed and his wife, Susan Ellen Weeks Reed of the Wills
Ridge area of Floyd County. He was born into a hard working and godly
family of three sisters and one brother; Gracie Pearl Reed m. William Kyle
Reed, Nina Alice Reed m. Lewis Mitchell, Bertha Reed m. Swanson Sowers, and
Asa Clayton Reed m. Polly Bernice Bond. Descendants of these sisters and
brother will remember Ole as a quiet spiritual uncle with a sparkle in his
blue eyes and a subtle sense of humor. Ole married Clara McManaway in 1936.
Clara passed away a year later due to complications with pneumonia. As a
young man, Ole built racers from old trucks, he dreamed of riding a
motorcycle and with his friends played music for dances and gatherings
around the community. In the late 1930's, Ole met the feisty and easy to
laugh Lillian Edith Graham of the Sowers Mill Dam area. They married in
1941. They became a devout couple and used their musical talents to make a
joyful noise to the Lord. As the "Singing Reeds," they provided
spiritual music for the Floyd area community through WGFC Radio. For many
years they provided for their church community, Reeds Mission, a facility
for worship services. They celebrated life and the Lord together until 2006
when Lillian went home laughing to the Father. To
everyone around him, Mr. Ole Reed's life served as an example of humble
servitude to the Lord God and of acceptance and understanding of friends,
neighbors and family with their many gifts and different outlooks on life.
He was with people as he was with his little stray dog,
"Gorgeous." He took them into his life and fed their scarred and hungry souls. Left to celebrate his life are
many, many nieces and nephews, neighbors, friends and the church families.
Through his final years of life, friends, neighbors and family who shared
his life were Corrine Sowers, Frances Bishop, Mattie Harris, Carolyn and
J.C. Holden, Junior Harris, Jerry Reed, Ruby and Richard Sutphin, Virgie
Quesenberry, Russell Akers, Mary Helm, Neal Montgomery, Dean Graham, Larry
Myers, Matthew Reinhardt, Dustin Black, Jared Black, Robyn Jones, Linda
Belcher, Jerry Long and Catherine Pauley, the folks from Plenty who brought
fresh garden produce, the wonderful people at Amedisys, who were with Ole
for several months (Cindy, Sarah, Cliff, Troy, Julie and Heather), and the
members of his church families. Ole touched so many lives that it is
impossible to mention everyone. They should know they were cared about. A
service was conducted by Pastor J.C. Holden of Granny's Chapel and by
Pastor Clyde Bishop of Floyd Church of God. Services were held at Gardner
Funeral Home Chapel in Floyd 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Visitation
was 10 a.m. prior to the service. Interment was at Jacksonville Cemetery.
Online condolences may be made by visiting www.gardnerfuneralhomefloyd.com.
Those wishing to contribute in some way may donate to the Floyd County
Rescue Squads and Fire Departments. Mr. Reed had a great deal of respect
for the excellent community services they provided. May you all walk with
God.

Betty Ann Phillips Rice, 78, of Roanoke, passed away at Carilion
Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
Betty Ann was born on October 11, 1933, in Avon, Warren County, Ill. She
is a Virginian due to her heritage and her having to be where her mother
was at the time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gary Randolph Phillips and
Grace Velma Bishop Phillips; sister, Virginia Marie Roberts; and a
brother, Alvin Bishop Phillips.
She is survived by her husband, Clive Elvyn Rice; daughter, Martha Ann
Massey and husband, James Lee; stepson, Richard Michael Rice;
stepdaughter, Danielle Marie Torino; five grandchildren, Katie, Ashley,
and Jamie Massey, Brianna Rice LeMaster and husband, Joshua, and Jordan
Michael Rice; one great-grandchild; nephew, Gusty; nieces, Theresa,
Pattie, and Roslyn; and various cousins.
At a young age Betty Ann always wanted to be a doctor. After finishing
high school in Floyd County she received a pre-med scholarship to
Bridgewater College but after one year her dream was shattered. Betty was
diagnosed as having diabetes mellitus and would be unable to complete her
schooling. She battled the decease for 61 years with the attitude of-it
will not rule me, I will rule it.
Betty Ann was a Registered Nurse who retired from the Veterans
Administration where she worked in the psychiatric service and was on the
Volunteer Services Board at the local VA Medical Center and volunteered
in the Prosthetics Department. Her time was spent as a community
volunteer for many organizations. She was secretary of the Hanging Rock
Foundation, long-time treasure of the Roanoke Civil War Round Table, and
Registrar, President of the Roanoke Chapter of the United Daughters of
the Confederacy (UDC). In the Virginia Division UDC, she served as
Custodian, District Chairman, Vice President, Chairman of the Grave
Marker Committee, and Chairman of Pages. She was also the director of the
"Hanging Rock Rangers" Roanoke chapter of the Children of the
Confederacy.
She taught and was instrumental in organizing the Blue Ridge Bobbin and
Lace Guilde. Her lace membership includes the English Lace Guild,
International Old Lacers, Chesapeake Regional Lace Guild, and North
Carolina Lacers. She gave demonstrations in bobbin lace at workshops,
festivals, museums and schools. She was also an accomplished seamstress.
She took courses in fabric painting, electrical wiring, and plumbing.
Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Jefferson Nurses
Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the
Civil War Preservation Trust and the Museum of the Confederacy.
It was guaranteed that if there was an obstacle in her path, it would be
overcome. She believed in trust, truth, and dealing direct.
Her favorite saying was, "A brain is a terrible thing to
waste." She will be remembered by many, many people.
Special thanks and recognition go the the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care
Unit (6 South) at Carilion Roanoke Memorial, who cared for Betty these
many days. The ICU on 7 South is also
recognized. You are all special and your compassion is much appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Veterans Administration
Volunteer Services, c/o the VA Medical Center, 1970 Roanoke Boulevard,
Salem, VA 24153. These donations will be used for the purchase of canteen
books so that her beloved veterans my purchase toiletries and items for
personal grooming.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17,
2012, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Jack Lowe
of Peters Creek Church of the Brethren. Interment will be at a later date

from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012, at
