Essie Josephine Walters Guilliams, 93, of Yorktown, Va., is resting in the arms of Jesus after a long, hard struggle with death. She left this old world on Monday, October 25, 2010, and it will never be the same. Essie was born November 27, 1916 in Callaway, Va., the daughter of the late Joseph and Della Pate Walters. She was the widow of Clarence E. Guilliams. Essie was the mother of 11 children, eight still surviving. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Anita Muriel Guilliams, and Joyce Marie Martin; and an infant son.
Essie is survived by five daughters and three sons, Hansford "Hank" Guilliams, Sylvia G. Hedden (Lyle), E. Lane Guilliams (Geraldine), Brenda G. Pickett (Neil), Wanda G. Bishop (Tommy), Linda G. Perdue (David), Barry Guilliams (Rhonda), and Renee Beasley (Mike). She had 10 brothers and sisters, all deceased, sisters, Minnie, Annie, Ora "Pat," Ida and Violet; and brothers, Wesley, Sam, Tom, Stanley and Despain "Dee." She had a special niece, Delano Webb, whom she considered a sister. She had 25 grandchildren, two deceased, Christian "Chris" Stallings and Melissa Guilliams. Surviving grandchildren are Jenell, Della, Christine, Dawn, Charles "Chuck," Andy, Lori and Julie, John, Wanda, Joe, Randy, Lisa, Synora, Brian, Greg, Tammy, Michelle, Shane, Trad, Carmen, Colby, Joshua and Brandon. She had 28 greatgrandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren, the youngest girl named Josephine in her honor.
She was a member of Yorkminster Baptist Church since it was established. God's most precious and treasured gift is the love of a mother. We will forever cherish the love and beauty she gave us. This beautiful, precious lady touched the hearts of everyone she met and was loved by all. She was a shining light, whose love, mercy, and grace were shown to all, no matter who you were. Her small hands held amazing strength. She will continue to stand tall beside Jesus.
A Funeral Service will be held 6 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010, in the Walter's Family Cemetery, in Callaway, Va.

William Despain Walters, 85, of Callaway, Va., went to be with his Lord on Friday morning, July 24, 2009, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Katie Cartee Walters; parents, Joe and Della Walters; brothers, Sam, Tom, Wesley and Stanley Walters; sisters, Annie Bowles, Minnie Holland, Violet Brown, Ida Helms and Pat Holland; also a true friend and son-in-law, Dempsey Young. Dee served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean War. He flew on 30 missions while in the Air Force. He was always dedicated to his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a kind and generous person who will be greatly missed. He retired after many years of working in highway construction, was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. His surviving family includes a brother and sister-in-law, Guy N. and Ina C. Walters; sisters, Garnette W. Rose, Mildred E. Garnette Merle Walters Bones Rose, 89, of Salem, has gone home to be with her Lord and sing in that eternal choir in the heavens on June 7, 2014. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde Carlton Bones Sr. and Ralph Odell Rose; her parents, William Curtis Walters and Hester Louise Susie Walters; sisters, Lilly Jenkins, Ora Nolley, Mildred Walters, Gladys Agee and Louise Austin; brothers, Henry, Earl, Jack, Guy and Everette Walters. 

Surviving are her children, Elizabeth Sue Cain-Kelly and husband, David Rice Kelly, Barbara Jean Overstreet and Clyde Carlton Bones Jr., all of Salem; grandchildren, Ruth Anne Masterson, of North Hollywood, Calif. and Daniel Jason Overstreet, of Salem; great grandchildren, Alexandria Smith, of San Antonio, Texas and Ryan Masterson of Phoenix, Ariz.; great-great-grandson, Joey Balderrama, of San Antonio, Texas; sisters-in-law, Beulah Walters, of Floyd and Ina Walters, of Salem; brother-in-law, Jack Austin, Roanoke; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rose loved her family, her rose garden and the birds that visited her yard. She loved babies and toddlers, especially the ones for whom she provided childcare for many years. And she loved her church, the First Evangelical Methodist Church of Salem, Va., where she sang in the choir and sewed costumes for many productions and Vacation Bible School events. Most of all she loved God.

WALTERS, Delbert Keen, 83, of Check, died at his home on Thursday, November 28, 1996. Surviving are his wife, Maleta Link Walters of Check; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and JoAnn Walters of Hardy, Thomas and Linda Walters of Floyd, and Steven and Lisa Walters of Fincastle; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild, and a sister, Loraine Radford of Floyd. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd, with the Rev. Dale Bowman, Mr. Rockey Williams and Mr. B. P. Simpson officiating. Interment will be in the Wilson Cemetery.

Maleta Adlene Link Walters FLOYD, Va. Maleta Adlene Link Walters, 89, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014. She was a member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, where she was a lifetime deaconess, and retired Postmaster in Check. She was born in McDowell County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Henry Clay and Mamie Vest Link. She loved school and was valedictorian of her high school class. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Delbert Keen Walters, and brother H. C. (Trick) Link. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Jean Walters of Radford, Tommy and Linda Walters of Floyd, and Bobby and JoAnn Walters of Hardy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Fred Nichols of Troutville, Etta Mae and Herman Hall of Mechanicsville, Catherine Vest of Floyd, and Pauline Reed of Check; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank several people for their loving care of Mrs. Walters: the kind and loving staff at Skyline Manor, Carolyn McPeak for all the dedication given to our mother, neighbor Hubert Harman for all of his visits, and to all the friends for all their love and prayers. A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Wilson Cemetery in Check where the Rev. Marty Moyer and the Rev. Roy Turpin officiated. Following the service, the family gathered at the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren to fellowship with friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, 8838 Floyd Highway North, Copper Hill, VA 24079. The Walters family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home and Crematory in Radford.
