William Harrison Slusher, Jr., age 87, of Floyd, passed away at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 17, 2004. He was born February 20, 1917, son of the late William H. and Louise Davis Slusher. His wives, Gladys Prater and Estellene S. Jones; and a grandson, Brent David Barnett, also preceded him in death. Also predeceased by brothers, Joe and Lewis; and sister, Julie. He is survived by four daughters and spouse, Debbie and Bill Schirmann, Burlington, N.J., Margaret Barnett, Strasburg, Va., Louise Slusher, Alexandria, Va., and Yvonne Slusher, Falls Church, Va.; two step-sons, Oscar Jones and Roger Jones; three step-daughters, Ivadale Duncan, Dinah Mabery and Sue Bailey; four grandsons, Frank Barnett, Chad Barnett, Paul Casteel and William Schirmann; one granddaughter, Brenda Usdin; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leo Slusher, Franklin, W.Va., Charles Slusher, Floyd, Va., Tom Slusher, Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Lilia Coates, Danville, Va., Betty Nester, Floyd, Va., and Hazel Rutrough, Floyd, Va.; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Bill had a love of wood working, photography, fishing, gardening, western movies, cross word puzzles, and most recently, developed a keen interest in computers. He was a retiree from Front Royal Hydraulics. He was a long standing member of the Civil Air Patrol and served as Major. He also served his country as a member of the Merchants Marines. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2004 at the Slusher-Jones Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Cannaday officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, Va. A special thanks to Betty Slusher and her husband for taking such good care of Bill through the years.

FLOYD - Estellene S. Slusher, 84, passed away Friday, February 21, 2003.
Survivors include: husband, William H. Slusher, Floyd; sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar Jr. and Betty Sue Jones, Floyd, Roger and Teresa Jones, Christiansburg; daughters and son-in-law, Iva Dale and Ira Duncan, Christiansburg, Dinah Mabry, Dublin, Sue Bailey, Christiansburg; step-daughter, Margaret Barnett, Front Royal, Deborah Schirman, Wilmington, NY, Louise Slusher, Yvonne Slusher, Alexandria; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elois and Virgil Trail, Willis, Avanelle and James Neal, Christiansburg; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 24, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roy Turpin and Reverend Stanley Hawkins officiating. Interment followed in the Slusher Cemetery.
