2015. She was born on April 21, 1916, in Roanoke County. Preceding her in
death are her husband, Robert Manning; her 10 Blackwell siblings; and
grandson, Jeffery Sprouse. Surviving
to cherish her memory are her sons, William "Bill" Sprouse Jr.
(Barbara) and Russell Sprouse (Linda); granddaughters, Deborah Kiger (David),
Angela Bryant (Scott); stepgrandchildren, Angela Shaver (David), David
Dunahoo (Meredith); great-granddaughters, Ashleigh Kiger, Hannah and Abigail

Wilson Harvey Blackwell began his earthly journey in Floyd County, Va. on January 27, 1919 as the youngest child of William Isaac and Eliza Blackwell. He loved and is loved by his family more than any human could imagine. Next to his family, his joy and passion was his farm, land, and cattle. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corp as an airplane mechanic. His earthly journey ended October 14, 2015 when God came and took him home. Left to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend for more than 64 years, Jaqueline Poff Blackwell; and daughters, Carolyn (and Doug) Sneed, Annette Blackwell, and Yvonne Blackwell; and grandson, Dan DeMartin (and Edina). He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Carilion Hospice staff and his caregiver, Sandra Hartman. Funeral service was held Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment followed in Restvale Cemetery (Head-of-the-River), Check, Va. was saved by God's grace at 28 years old, went to Piedmont Bible College, and
was blessed to serve as the Pastor of Tuggles Gap Baptist Church for 31
years. He was
born on November 9, 1939 to Robert Sherman and Eula Belle Williams Blackwell. He is
survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Page Blackwell; his mother, Eula
Belle Martin; children and spouses, Joe and Lisa Blackwell, and Kim and Paul
Shively; one granddaughter, Casey Blackwell; sisters and spouses, Nancy Jane
Shank, Ileda Shelor, Catherine Louise and Thomas Hall, and Mary and W.B.
Nolen; brother and spouse, Kenneth and Kathy Blackwell. Funeral
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at New
Haven Baptist Church with Professor Dr. Hoyle Bowman, the Reverend Mike Vest
and the Reverend Brian Cockram officiating. Interment will follow at the Lee

She was born March 7, 1902 in Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Blackwell graduated from the Norristown, Pennsylvania Business College in 1919 at the age of 17. She served as a nurse during World War I at Norristown State Hospital before moving to Roanoke in 1922. Mrs. Blackwell was of the Lutheran Reform Faith and preceded in death by two husbands, William L. Blackwell on August 30, 1927, and Leonard A. Blackwell on August 3, 1981, and a daughter Florence B. Howell on May 28, 2003. She is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Virginia and Melvin Huffine of Roanoke, Helen and Johnny Wade of Alexandria, Frances and Harvey Gross of Roanoke; son-in-law, Hugh Howell of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren, Gary Wade of Orlando, Debbie Bayliss of Alexandria, Susan Robinson of Richmond, Cindy Johnson and Bonnie Douglas of Roanoke; six greatgrandchildren, Jessica Greene of Orlando, Brandon Boothe of Roanoke, Chase, Derek and Lloyd Bayliss of Alexandria, and Molly Robinson of Richmond; one great-great-grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter. Abraham Gish Blackwell married Mary
Elizabeth Holt Nov. 28, 1867 in Floyd County, VA. They did not have
children but often kept other children in their home. Abe served in the War
Between the states in the 54th VA Inf and also in the Cavalry. He owned a
large farm and had a large apple orchard.
Mary Elizabeth Holt Blackwell was the
daughter of Smithen S. Holt and Olivia Richards. Although she did not have
children, there were always nieces and nephews of both she and Abe living
with them. Sometimes there were children with them that needed a home for a
while.
