2018 Milfred Leo Slusher, 79, of Floyd, Va., passed away peacefully on
Sunday, September 30, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Milfred had been a
resident of Skyline Nursing Home for the past year. He was born on May 23,
1939 to the late Clarence L. Slusher and Cathleen Pratt Slusher. Milfred was
preceded in death by his sister, Shirleen Slusher; brother, Dexter Slusher;
and nephew Brannon Scott Slusher. He is survived by his sons, Darrell Slusher
(Jodie) and David Slusher (Joan) of Floyd, Va.; daughter, Donna Slusher Poff,
also of Floyd, Va.; grandchildren, Autumn (Jeremy) Wade, Taylor Slusher,
Austin Poff, Brooke Slusher, Elisabeth Slusher, and Kaitlin Slusher;
great-grandchildren, Alice Happ, Amelia Wade, and Alexis Wade; sisters, Ruby
Sutphin (Richard), Mary Wade (Dale), Linda Harris (Maurice), and Imogene Cox;
brothers, Arthur, Charles, and Dale Slusher. Milfred was a veteran in the
United States army and was stationed in Germany. He worked for Doris Turman's
Tire Shop and worked for Radford Pipe Shop for 32 years. He also worked for
the Blue Ridge Park Service. He was a Ginseng hunter and loved to fish, play
horseshoes, and loved to ride around in his truck. He was a very loving
father and grandfather. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday,
October 2, 2018 at in Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd, Va. 2018 Burial: Jacksonville

February 5, 1915, in Floyd, VA, he was the son of James and Marcella (Dehart)
Slusher. He married Arlene Morton on September 15, 1941, and she survives. Surviving with his wife
are one son, James P. Slusher and wife, Kara, of Dunkirk, MD; one daughter,
Cathy M. Cobb and husband, Ronnie, of Bedford, IN; one granddaughter, Donella
Cobb Bredeweg and husband, Bradley, of Mitchell, IN; three grandsons: Douglas
Cobb of Terre Haute, IN, Steven Cobb of Greenwood, IN, and Jeffery Slusher of
Dunkirk, MD; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Bredeweg. He was preceded in
death by two sons, Raymond Jr. and Rodney Dean Slusher; one brother, Clarence
Slusher; and two sisters, Lorena Harmon and Beulah Sowers. He retired from Union
Carbide Metals Division Allow, WV, and was an army veteran of World War II,
serving in the Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment in the South Pacific. He was
awarded three bronze stars for his service. He was an active member of the
United Methodist Church in Lizemore, WV, and upon moving to Indiana, he
attended the Bedford Free Methodist Church. Services for Raymond
Slusher will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10th, at the Day & Carter

John served as a First Lieutenant & Navigator on B-17F #42-29918, 342nd Bomber Squadron, 97th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He resided in Virginia prior to the war. On January 11, 1944, bombers from the 15th Air Force based in Cerignola, Italy, were dispatched to strike harbor installations at Piraeus, Greece. Approaching the target area, they encountered adverse weather and extreme wind and icing conditions. John's B-17 & also B-17 #42-3251, with ice forming on their wings and due to cloud cover having lost their formation, decided to return to base. Instead of making a 180-degree right turn, away from the formations, the aircrafts made a turn to the left and flew head-on into the 301st Bomber Group formation which was also on the same mission. John was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 collided with B-17F #42-31396 of the 301st Bomber Group near Agrambela, Greece during the war. B-17 #42-3251, which had turned back with John's B-17, collided into B-17 #42-30357 which was also part of the 301st Bomber Group causing them both to also crash. All four of the B-17's were lost in this crash. John was awarded the Air Medal & Purple Heart. He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on January 13, 1950. Service # O-793299 The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave. daughter of the late Peter B. and Pearl Slusher. Sue was a member of Christ Evangelical
Lutheran Church. Family includes her son, Thomas
Obenschain of Richmond; granddaughter, Maxine Balling and husband Erik, of
Coalinga, California; great-grandchildren, Allie and Justin; and nephew
William Slusher of Staunton. She was preceded in death by her
husband, William B. Obenschain; two sons, Samuel “Kirk” and Peter Obenschain;
daughter, Alice Obenschain; and three brothers, John, William, and Peter
Slusher. A memorial service will be announced at
a later date. Henry Funeral Home is entrusted with

He was a 1945 graduate of Elyria High School and following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp where he proudly served his country for 2 and a half years. He attended Miami University of Ohio on the GI Bill. He was a Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker in Local Union # 65, a Licensed Stationary Engineer and a RWS Certified Welder who owned and operated his own business, Elyria Sheet Metal Works. He was later employed by Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria, OH. as a Millwright until the time of his retirement. He was also part of the retired UAW Members Local Union #971. In 1949, Bob married the love of his life, Betty J. Wurm of Lorain, OH. God blessed them with 50 wonderful years together before Betty went home to heaven in 2000. He was also predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Norma Ladd, Ivalyn Burgett, Helen Nutter, Carol McCoy, and Charles D. Slusher. Bob was a resident of North Ridgeville, OH. for more than 54 years where he loved living on his nine acre farm. He treasured the friendships of his neighbors and generously gave of himself to help them. He was most at home tending his more than 90 fruit trees, his grapevines, his vegetable garden, his prized elderberry bushes, and his chickens.He was a valued and respected member of his community who served with humility, integrity, and compassion. He served as an advisor for the North Ridgeville Junior Stockman 4-H- Club. He served as a Director for the Lorain County Fair Board for 18 years, including a term as its president and was presented the Clair Hill Award for outstanding service by The Chronicle Telegram. He was an active member of the Friends of the Elyria Library and he was an avid collector of books. He had a particular passion for books on religion, the Civil War, cooking, sports, and pop culture collectible books. He was also a collector of vintage cameras, vintage barber equipment, and vintage lighters. His other hobbies included bowling, golf, fishing and reading. Bob’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and his love for His word, influenced every area of his life. He was a member of Abbe Road Baptist Church in Elyria, OH. and over the years served the body there as a deacon and a caring Sunday School teacher. He supported missionaries in Portugal and Great Britain, as well as his own grandson’s family who serve as church planting missionaries in Uruguay. He acted as Coordinator for the Faith and Fellowship program at Lorain County Correctional Facility where he taught incarcerated men about God’s love and forgiveness. In 2008 he received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Ohio Department of Correction and Rehabilitation. He is survived by his sister Nancy Anderson, of

Visiting hours with the family will be open to all on Saturday, March 16 followed by a Memorial service at Abbe Road Baptist Church, 670 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH. In lieu of flowers, the

"Bert" Anderson Sr., 85, of Elyria passed away Thursday February
21, 2013 at the Northridge Health Center in North Ridgeville following a
brief illness. He was born September 14, 1927 in Elyria and was a lifelong
Elyria resident. Bert worked as a truck driver for the teamsters union for
many years, was the former owner of Anderson Pools, was a member of the
LaPorte United Methodist Church, and served in the United States Navy during
W.W. II.. Following his retirement, he worked in security at the Elyria
Wesleyan Village and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Survivors include his
wife of 43 years, Nancy (nee-Slusher); sons, Eric Anderson of Elyria, Tim
(Jody) Anderson of Grafton, Robert Anderson Jr. (Heidi) of Elyria, James
