Find A Grave Note: In 1862, when Benjamin was away -Civil War, his wife Elizabeth was called to a neighbor's home because of the neighbor child's illness. Not knowing what the illness was, she unknowingly carried scarlet fever back to her own household. Elizabeth and all three children died in 1862 from scarlet fever.

Surviving are three sons, K. Scotty Dobbins,. Douglas G. Dobbins, and Curtis L. Dobbins, all of Dublin, six grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

Prominent Farmer Dies In Hospital

Giles Gordon Dobbins Jr., prominent Pulaski County farmer, died early Friday morning in Pulaski Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Floyd County, the son of the late Giles Gordon Dobbins Sr, and Virginia Scott Dobbins. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Nettie Reed Dobbins, three sons, Kemper S. Dobbins, Douglas G. Dobbins, and Curtits L. Dobbins, all of Pulaski; two daughters, Mrs Frank Gilley, Pulaski; Mrs. Eugene Doss, Goldsboro, NC; two sisters, Miss Grace Dobbins, Floyd, VA; Mrs. Myrtle Byrne, Winston Salem, NC; six grand children. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p. m. from the Thornspring Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam Barnes officiating, assisted by the Rev. Virgil Anderson. William Bruister "Bruce" Helton, 86, of Pulaski died Friday in a Richmond hospital. Born Aug. 23, 1894, in Pulaski County, he was a veteran police officer for the Town of Pulaski having retired in 1958 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Jordans Chapel United Methodist Church. He is survived by his widow, Nettie Reed Helton of Pulaski; three daughters, Mrs. James R Glenn of Pulaski, Mrs. William Gravely of Richmond, and Mrs Hugh Harris of Winston-Salem, NC; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Pulaski with the Rev. Julian Walton officiating. Burial will follow in Thornspring Cemetery. A B DOBYNS RITES THIS AFTERMOON -
Funeral services for A B Dobyns, 64, were to be held at the residence, 620 First avenue, west at 2:30 this afternoon, with the Rev Ira F Hawkins and the Rev T H Wilson officiating ministers. Brown was to direct burial at City cemetery.

Mr. Dobyns is survived by his widow, Lula; four daughters, Mrs Walter Tucker and Mrs A W Lipp, Sandusky, Ohio, Mrs Neil Craft, St Louis, and Mrs W C Wooten, Birmingham; five sons, Raymond, Sam, Abner, Mack and Jack, all of this city. Five grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Dobyns who had been employed by the L & N Railroad for 30 years dropped dead Friday at the union station, Nashville, as he was preparing to board southbound passenger train No 3.

He had made his home in Decatur for many years and was one of the best known men in railroad circles in North Alabama. He was serving as flagman at the time of his death.

Samuel G. Dobyns, 90, oldest alumnus of Trinity College, now Duke University, died Monday night at his home, Dobyns Homestead, five miles west of Stuart. He had been in ill health several months. 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Claudville Baptist church. 
Mr. Dobyns was born at Floyd Courthouse, March 4, 1851, a son of Thomas M. and Lurinda Conner Dobyns. 
He went to Mount Airy Academy before entering Trinity. 
He graduated in law but never practiced, deciding instead to return to Patrick county and devote his life to the management of his farm. 
He served as deputy collector internal revenue under General Fitzhugh Lee during Grover Clevelands second presidential administration. 
Mr. Dobyns was married to Miss Ruth Lawson of Meadows-of-Dan, March 6, 1872. They have made their home on their farm ever since. 
Surviving are Mrs. Dobyns, and four children: Mrs. Annie Reynolds Tompkins, Critz; Mrs. Ada Dunkley, Powhatan; C. W. Dobyns, Speedwell; and Thomas G. Dobyns, and one sister, Miss Annie Dobyns, Woodlawn.

Mrs. Ruth Lawson Dobyns, 92, passed away at her home, "Dobyns Homestead" following a gradual decline in health. 
She was born at Meadows of Dan on March 23, 1849, the daughter of William and Annie Thompson Lawson. She was the last of 12 children. 
She joined the Concord Baptist church in 1863, at the age of 14, and in 1872, married Samuel Green Dobyns. 
Soon thereafter they moved to Dobyns' Homestead where they spent the remainder of their lives. 
Mr. Dobyns, who died only 20 days ago, was the oldest living alumnus of Trinity College, now Duke University. 
To this union was born six children, two of whom died several years ago. 
Mr. and Mrs. Dobyns were chiefly instrumental in securing the establishment of the present Dobyns Church and were faithful members, bringing their membership from Concord, as its first members. 
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Dobyns Church. Surviving are two sons, C. W. Dobyns of Wytheville and Thomas G. Dobyns of Stuart and two daughters, Mrs. Henry Dunkley of Powhatan and Mrs. S. Wart Thompkins of Critz.

Mrs. Katie Smith Dobyns, 83, of Main St. Dublin, died, suddenly Tuesday morning at her home.

The widow of Thomas M. Dobyns, she was the daughter of the late William D. and Nannie Mauck Smith. 

A member of the Dublin Methodist Church, she was born in Montgomery County, Aug. 10, 1883. 

Surviving are one son Thomas M. Dobyns Jr. and one sister, Mrs. J.L.Thompson, both of Dublin, two grandchildren Miss Diane Carter Dobyns and Miss Theda Jayne Dobyns, both of Dublin.

Funeral will be held Thursday, Rev. Dan B. Kelly officiating. 

Burial will follow In the Dublin Cemetery. The family will receive friends today at Stevens from 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services for Colonel Thomas Mitchell Dobyns, prominent farmer and stockman, who passed away late Tuesday afternoon at his home in Dublin following a heart attack, were held this afternoon at l:30 o'clock from the Dublin Methodist church with the Rev. John C. Patty, pastor, in charge. 

Interment was in the Dublin cemetery. 

Death Sudden

Col Dobyns, one of the most highly esteemed and beloved citizens of this county, was taken ill early Tuesday morning but his condition was not considered serious until the fatal attack came.

His death was attributed to angina pectoris. News of his passing cast a pall of gloom over this entire section. Friends were stunned at the suddenness of his death. 

Col. Dobyns was born and reared at Woodlawn, Carroll county but he resided in Dublin for the past 30 years. 

He was a member of the Methodist church and the Pulaski Elks lodge.

Survived By Widow

The deceased is survived by his widow, Kate Smith Dobyns; one son, T. M., Jr.; two sisters, Misses Florence and Annie Dobyns of Woodlawn and one half-brother, Sam Dobyns, of Stuart. 

Mr. Dobyns received his title from former governor, Westmoreland Davis fourteen years ago being appointed to his staff. 

Active pall bearers included: Tommy Dobyns, R. A. Dobyns, David Dobyns, R. A. Dobyns, David Arthur Dobyns, Haiden W. Reynolds and John W. Thompson, Jr.
