Clara Gibson Reed, 85, of Roanoke, formerly of Cloverdale, Va., died Friday, January 13, 1995 at Richfield Retirement Community. She was a member of Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, the Rachel Rebekah Lodge #4, was retired from Heironimus, and also worked for a number of years at Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a Nursing Assistant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Reed, and one grandson, Steven D. Reed. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James and Judy (Davis) Reed, Cloverdale; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bill Walker, Roanoke; one brother, Glenver Gibson, Cloverdale; one sister, Josie Lee, Altoona, Penn.; three grandsons, David Reed, Hollins, Roger Reed, Blue Ridge, John Reed, Fort Hood, Texas ; one granddaughter, Teresa McNulty, Roanoke; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16, 1995, at 11 a.m. in the Rader Troutville Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Beach officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing to make donations, please consider the Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, Cloverdale, Va.

Noah Lawrence Reed, age 81, passed way February 15, 1985, at the Veterans Hospital, Salem, Va. Lawrence was borned in Floyd County {Reedsville section}Va, on November 16,1904. He was the second of 10 children, borned to James Solomon Reed, and Allie Dailey Alley Reed. 

Lawrence retired from Floyd County School Board. He was maintance supervisor for the Floyd County Schools. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Rebekahs Lodge. He enjoyed auction sales and flea markets and thats where you could find him on most weekends until, he had to give it up due to his health.

He was married 58 years to Elsie Elizabeth Davis Reed, who survivies, they had 7 children who also survives. Velma Mae Reed Carroll, Daisy Wyvetta Reed Shortt, Ruby Jane Reed Lee, Imogene Frances Reed Brizendine, Norvell [Sonny] Wyatt Reed, Mary Lee Reed Weddle and Murlene Elizabeth Reed. 21 grandchildren survives. 

He was buried in the Bronze section of Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, Va.

Doris Huddleston Wheeler Reed, 98, of Vinton, died June 15, 2011.

She was born March 7, 1913, to the late Charlie M. and Pearl D. Huddleston, of Moneta.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph W. Reed; ex-husband, Norman Wheeler; son-in-law, Ray D. Miller; brothers, Emmett, Dewey, Clarence, Fred, and Wilton Huddleston; and sisters, Edith Harry, Nellie Jenkins, and Evelyn Reed.

Survivors are daughter, Geraldine (Gerry) Miller, of Vinton; stepson, Warren Reed and wife, Pam, of Marietta, Ga.; three step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ethel Huddleston who was 100 years old on June 15, 2011; special niece, Almeta (Randy) Jenkins; several other nieces and nephews; longtime friends, Claudene Taylor, of Blackstone, and Nancy Moore, of Salem; and many other friends.

Doris was a retired hairdresser, having worked out of her home in Vinton for approximately 10 years before moving to Charlotte, N.C. in 1955, where she ran her own beauty salon until she retired. She was a member of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Vinton.

The family would like to thank special caregivers, Jan Wickline, Susan Kelleher, Melissa Wingfield, and Donna Painter and Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care and concern. Graveside funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jamie Smith at 11 a.m., Monday, June 20, 2011, at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1130 Hardy Road, Vinton, VA 24179. The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 982-2221.

Late 1880’s: Nathaniel, in the late 1800's, drove a hack (wagon for transporting passengers) along the following route from Jacksonville (which became Floyd in 1896), Floyd County VA, to Christiansburg, then Blacksburg in Montgomery County VA. He then followed the old stage coach route over Mountain Lake, into Monroe County WV and over Peters Mountain, then down to Giles County VA stopping probably in Narrows and for sure in Glen Lyn and continuing on to Princeton, Mercer County WV, with stops along the way. Sometime before 1897, Nathaniel met Rachel Rebecca Dent in Glen Lyn, Giles County VA, which was one of his stops for discharging and taking on passengers.

1959 Obit for Rachel: Mrs. Rachel Reed: Mrs. Rachel Rebecca Reed, 78, died at her home on Fayette St., in Princeton, Tuesday morning. Mrs. Reed was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. She was a member of the Willowton Christian Church. Surviving are: her husband, Nathaniel Reed; five daughters; Mrs Carl Bailey, Mrs. Bessie Robertson, Mrs. Cynthia Davis, and Mrs. Frank Simpkins, all of Princeton; Mrs. Hubert Davis of Glen Lyn; one son, Lacy Reed of Willowton; also 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Willowton Christian Church Tuesday at 3 pm with the Rev. Charles Sublett in charge. Burial will follow in the Willowton Cemetery.
