Marjorie E. Cramer, 89, of Bowen, died on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at her home in Bowen.

She was born on July 4, 1920, near Bentley, a daughter of Ervin and Opal Pearl Smith Akers. She married Jack O. Cramer on Jan. 17, 1938, in Kahoka, Mo. He died on Dec. 17, 1990.

Marjorie is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (Max) Scott of Canton; one son, Radley Cramer of Accord, N.Y.; one daughter-in-law, Judy Cramer, of Carthage; one sister, Mildred Quivey of Oakland, Illinois; five grandchildren, Mitch (Lisa) Scott, Marcy (Julie) Scott, Mindy (Terry) Keigher, Scott (Evonne) Cramer and Eric (Jane) Cramer; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ron Cramer; two sisters, Dorothy Lummis and Jean Ramsey; and one brother, Jim Akers.

Marjorie was a self-employed hairdresser in Bowen for many year, retiring in 1992. She attended Bowen High School. She was a member of the Bowen Christian Church, Bowen American Legion Auxiliary, Hancock County RSVP, and Augusta Senior Citizens Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb 11, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta. Rev. Tom Mehaffy officiated. Burial followed in Harmony Cemetery near Denver.

Visitation was held on Thursday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Bowen Christian Church or the Augusta Senior Citizens Center.

Tazewell Clynton Akers, 80, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2011, with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 23, 1930, in Floyd. He was a member of the Seneca Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clynton Tazewell and Ruby Teel Akers. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Hyatt Akers; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale Alan and Robin Akers, Clay Tazewell Sr. and Kathy Akers, Derrick Ray and Beth Lancaster; daughters and sons-in-law, Hope and Jerry Stump, Becky and Lloyd Horton; grandsons, Clay Tazewell Akers Jr., Joshua Clinton Akers, Caleb Alan Akers, Aaron Michael Akers, Noah Kyle Akers, Jonathan Milton Akers, Shawn Stump; granddaughter, Samantha Morris; sisters and brother-in-law, Albertine and Robert Montgomery, Betty Harmon; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

Mrs. Tobitha Gravely Akers, 63, of Files, widow
of the late Erasmus Andrew Akers, died in a Galax Hospital Wednesday, November 21,1962.
Mrs. Akers was born in Wythe County in March, 1899,a daughter of the late John Gravely and wife.

Surviving are three sons, James Akers, Fries Edd Akers, Chicago, III, and Harvey Akers, Martinsville three daughters, Mrs. Buren Littreal, Mechanicsburg (wife of the Rev. Buren Littreal, Methodist pastor at Mechanicsburq, and Mis. Jerry Martin and Mrs. Clarence Criner, both of Fries two step daughters, Mrs. Willie Watson and Mrs. Rose Criner, both of Fries one step-son, Arthur Akers, Draper one sister, Mis. Grace Nester, Forestville, Md. one brother, Jim Gravely, Welch, W. Va. 23 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held the Rev. Jesse Roop. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery in Wythe County- The body remained at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home prior to the services.

Can’t explain why they are buried together. But another curious combination it is just east of this tombstone, inscribed with these Dickerson’s: Albert & Maggie & another one of their son’s, Howard & also Johnson aka Joseph Johnson Dickerson, Nellie’s husband. Have to wonder if this stone were put up at a later date but at same time & Joseph & Adrian’s names were mistakenly swapped.
