DEATH OF BEAUFORD COX.

Beauford Cox, son of Aris and Irena Cox, was born Jan. 30, 1844, near Indian Valley, Virginia, died Sept. 17th, 1931 aged 87 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Having grown to manhood in the state of Virginia, he united in marriage with Miss Nancy Emaline Phillips who died at the age of 29 years.  To this union three children were born Walton E., who lives in Radford, Va., Henry F., of Fountain Green, Ill., and one daughter, Mrs. Edward Weeks of near Burnside.

On Aug. 8, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Millissa Hill, who passed away on Nov. 10, 1927.  To this union one son was born, Posey D., who died in infancy.

About the year 1902, uncle Beauford came to Illinois and soon settled in Denver, Ill., where he continued to live until perhaps three years ago, when the death of his wife, his old age, and his health made it advisable for him to go to live with his daughter, where the last three years of his life he enjoyed a good home and every attention that loving children and grandchildren could give.  It was here an angel found him.

About three o'clock in the morning of Sept. 17th he suffered a very severe heart attack but soon recovered and later ate breakfast and at 10:30 o'clock while talking with his pastor he said that he was feeling all right again.  In a very few minutes however, he suffered another attack and his suffering became so great that the doctor was called, but so quickly did the angel work that man with his medical skill found neither time nor occasion to act but the Lord did his sovereign will.

At 1:30 the summons came and the spirit quietly and swiftly responded to the call, and he passed from earth to God.

Years ago the Lord renewed a right spirit within him and gave him that blessed power to view the Lord as his Savior.  However, through a feeling of unworthiness, he refrained from uniting with the Master's visible church until in September, 1919.  Since that time he has proven a faithful follower of the lamb and has thoroughly enjoyed the blessings and privileges of the Lord's house.

He appreciated and esteemed most highly the fellowship of his brethren, all of whom held him in very high regard for his humility and sincere christian devotion to the Master's cause.

Besides his children there is one brother, Fulton Cox, of Kansas City, Mo., one sister, Luanna Ally, who lives in Kansas; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and many many dear friends who remain.

Uncle Beauford served in the southern army from the beginning to the close of the civil war and then with brighter arms arrayed and with his captain just before, he served his Master unafraid, and saw by faith the victory sure.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Bentley, Saturday afternoon, Sept. 19th, at 2:30 o'clock Elder C. E. Webb having charge of the services, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in Harmony cemetery.  The choir sweetly sang, "There is a land, a happy land," "Nearer My God to Thee," and "Sweet By and By."

The casket bearers were: Earl Poland, Orville Prior, F. L. Kimbrough, Joe Rice, L. C. Jones, E. K. Symmonds.
