Etta d/o Henry Andrew Shelor and Martha Ellen Reed. When she was 8 months old her mother was thrown from a horse and killed. Five days later Henry committed suicide leaving his baby daughter an orphan. She was raised by her grandparents. On March 4, 1904 she married Isaac Arthur Smith and gave birth to six children: Martha (Alva), Fredrick, Gracie, Thomas, Bessie and Doris. She died of "old age" a few months after her 90th birthday.

I. A. worked in coal mine but always financially strapped. He married Etta Florence Shelor on March 4, 1904 in Indian Valley, VA. They had 3 children: Martha (Alva), Fredrick and Gracie. I A moved his young family to Illinois, and he farmed some land there. Times weren't much better so in 1916 he moved his family to South Dakota near the beautiful Lake Traverse South of Rosholt, SD. Three more children were born to them: Thomas Arthur, Bessie Mae and Doris Etta. I. A. was a successful farmer and died of cancer in 1958.

Venia Ada Sesseman, 95, of Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of 1018 N. Oakleaf, died at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 1993, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Mishawaka.

Born Sept. 28, 1897, in Indian Valley, Va., Floyd County, to Joseph C. and Suticia Simpkins Bishop, she married Louis W. Sesseman on Nov. 18, 1945, in Beardstown. He died in 1961 in Mishawaka. She also was preceded in death by one son, David E. Shelor.

Surviving are two sons, Willard A. Shelor and Ernie J. Shelor, both of Mishawaka; one daughter, Geneva M. Kester of Lake Worth, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Beardstown Lutheran Church and a former member of Glad Tidings Church in Peoria.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, where visitation will be one hour earlier. The Rev. Peter Bosworth will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.

Survivors include one son, Tim (Sally) Shelor of Peoria; one daughter, Melissa (Mark) Rhoades of Florida; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren on the way; one sister, Francis (Jim) Byers of Lewiston; one brother, William Corky (Midge) Surratt of Pekin; three foster children, Rosie Lord Hulsey of Alabama, Judy Horner of Illinois, and Jimmi Kwarta of Missouri; nine foster grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, her parents and stepdad.

Wanda was a homemaker and foster parent. She was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the PTA of Pleasant Valley Grade School. She was a member of the Calvary Temple Church in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the chapel. Born Sept. 22, 1919, in Copper Valley, Va., to Ernest and Venia Bishop Shelor Sr., he married Wanda Surratt on Oct. 28, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother Venia Sesseman of South Bend, Ind.; one daughter, Melissa Rhoades of Vero Beach, Fla.; one son, Tim of Hanna City; one foster son, Jimmy Kwarta of St. Peters, Mo.; two foster daughters, Rosemary Lord of Peoria and Judy Horner of Minier; two brothers, Willard and Ernest Jr., both of Mishawaka, Ind.; one sister, Geneva Kester of Lake Worth, Fla.; six grandchildren; and nine foster grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

A member of Teamsters Union Local 627, he was a truck driver for Rocket Transport for many years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.

Willard Agee Shelor Nov. 20, 1921 - May 19, 2016 MISHAWAKA - Willard Agee Shelor, 94, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away 9:40 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016, in South Bend Hospice House.

Willard was born on November 20, 1921, in Floyd County, VA, to Henry E. and Venia "Ada" (Bishop) Shelor.

Willard is survived by his children, Tammy (Todd) Blain of Plainfield, IL, Sandie Machler and Debra Jacobs, both of Mishawaka, Gary Shelor of Jasper, FL; his stepchildren, Hillary Patricia (Gene) Bunn of Fort Worth, TX, Melina Perdue (Tom) McDonald of Roanoke, VA, Tanya Carroll- Basulto of Delray Beach, FL; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.

Willard and his wife, Patricia, raised a grandson, Troy Marino as their own who he fondly called "Buckshot."

Willard was preceded in death by his wife Patricia on December 23, 2001, his parents, and his siblings, David "Ervin" Shelor, Geneva Kester and Henry "Ernie" Shelor Jr.

Willard entered into the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old. He served on the USS Cache (AO) in 1942. This refueling ship was struck portside by a submarine torpedo and later decommissioned in 1946. Willard was the hardest working and most selfless man you would ever meet. He worked hard each day to provide for his family, rarely missing a day of work. He began his career working two full-time jobs. Willard worked at Studebaker for 18 years until the business dissolved. While at Studebaker, he began another full-time position as one of two drivers for Smelser Concrete. Smelser was later purchased by Valley Concrete in Mishawaka where Willard continued his career as a concrete driver. In 1971, Kuert Concrete purchased Valley and Willard became their Number 3 Driver. Willard retired from Kuert Concrete in August 2000 at 78 years young with over 38 years of service. He was always proud that he could work circles around men half his age. Willard retired to care for his wife Patricia who was battling lung cancer. Willard loved to stay busy on his Farmall and John Deere tractors. If he was outside, he was happy. He was a longstanding member of the V.F.W. Post #360, American Legion, Teamsters and Moose.

Visitation for Willard will be on Friday, May 27, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the service in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Troy Marino officiating the funeral services with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN, where V.F.W. Post #360 will conduct Military Rites.

SOUTH BEND - Ernie Shelor Jr., 81, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, January 1st in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Ernie was born in Lafayette, IL, on June 26, 1928 to the late Henery E. and Ada Vienna (Bishop) Shelor. 

Ernie served his country in the US Army, receiving a honorable discharge in 1949. He was a member of the American Legion post 50, and the VFW post 360. He retired from Kuert Concrete, where he was a truck driver. 

Ernie is survived by his son Ernie (Janice Brock) Shelor, one grandson, Christopher Ernest Lee Shelor, and one brother, Willard A. Shelor, of Mishawaka. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Irvin Shelor, and a sister, Geneva Kester. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 3rd, from 2 until 4 pm, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St.. Burial is to take place at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, at a later date.

Surviving are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He worked in the mill at WABCO for 23 years, retiring in 1967. He attended Bethel Baptist Church. David "Davey" Shelor, 59, of Dayton, passed away January 11, 2015. He was born January 31, 1955 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Albert and Vanda (Morgan) Shelor.

Davey attended Northridge High School and JVS and was a member of the Dayton Irish Club for 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, anything outdoors, but he adored working on his ’68 Chevy Camaro. He also enjoyed cooking and baking. Davey’s greatest love was spending time with his loving family, wife and beloved dogs, Maddie and Duke.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert R. Shelor, Jr.

Davey is survived by his wife of 9 years, Michele “Shelly” Shelor; mother, Vanda Shelor; daughter, Morgan Sering of FL; grandchildren, Lorelai, Brendan, Liam; sisters, Susan (Wayne) Essex, Elizabeth (Greg) Bergman; mother-in-law, Katherine Petrick; sister-in-law, Linda (Tom) Krol; aunts and uncles, Reid (Linda) Morgan, Mary Holloway, Leo (Mary) Shelor; nieces and nephews, Alysia and Aaron Cvengros, Stephanie Copfer, Sara (Boyd) Matthews, Michael (Leslie) Essex, Amanda Bergman, Sara (Dustin) Schwartz; and many good friends.

PILOT, Va. Darcie Coan Shelor, 97, entered Heaven's gate on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Radford Health and Rehab.

He was born in Floyd County on March 5, 1919, the son of the late Bibley and Linnie (Gardner) Shelor.

Darcie graduated from Auburn High School and attended Bluefield Community College. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he served as an Airplane Mechanic Gunner - Technical Sergeant. Upon discharge, he worked for Leggett Department Store and Triangle Machinery in Christiansburg before buying a small farm and moving back to Floyd County. He was employed as a farm equipment mechanic at Shanks Garage until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Stonewall Church of the Brethren, where he served as Deacon.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Claribel (Fender) Shelor; four children, Gary Shelor and wife, Connie, of Radford, Barbara Webb and husband, Gary, of Riner, Cheryl Shull and husband, Brian, of Bridgewater, and Karen McMillion and husband, Jeff, of Johnson City, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren.

Darcie lived a long, full life. He will be lovingly missed by his family and friends. His honesty, his humor, and his faith in God made the world a better place.

A service to celebrate Darcie's life was held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2016, at Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Hylton and Pastor Darren Landon officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. The family received friends from 3 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Gardner Funeral Home. Graveside military rites were presented by Virginia Honor Guard National Guard, VFW Post # 7854 and American Legion Post # 127. Odra T. Shelor, 97, Prairie City, formerly of Colchester, died at 8 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2007, at McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.

He was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Floyd, Va., the son of Harvey B. and Arizona (Altizer) Shelor. He married Lovena G. Williams on Dec. 4, 1930, in Plymouth. She preceded him in death Aug. 3, 1992.

He is survived by two sons, Roger Shelor, Upland, Calif., and Brian (Debbie) Shelor, Coal Valley; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents.

He farmed in the St. Marys area, operated movie theaters in Illinois and Iowa and operated a beauty shop for 20 years and was the owner of Shelor Mobile Homes, Colchester. He was a member of Colchester First Christian Church.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2007, at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colchester, with the Rev. Milton Cruz officiating.

Friends may call at Jones Mortuary, Colchester, after 9 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2007, until the time of services.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

COLCHESTER -- Lovena G. Shelor, 80, of Macomb Street died at 9:38 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 1992, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Born Nov. 25, 1911, in Pittsfield to Walter and Nellye C. Hayden Williams, she married Odra Shelor on Dec. 4, 1930, in Plymouth.

He survives, along with two sons, Roger of Colchester and Brian of Coal Valley; one brother, W.J. Williams of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was a beautician in her home and later worked with her husband at Shelor Mobile Homes in Colchester.

She was a member of Colchester First Christian Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jones Mortuary in Colchester. The Rev. Ernest Louderman will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.
