1861 Enlistment: William Dickerson was a 4th Sgt. Company A of the 54th Infantry, and enlisted on September 1, 1861 at Jacksonville, Floyd Co., VA, Virginia. He was present on December 31, 1863 and surrendered at Columbus, Georgia on February 22, 1864. He took the oath at Nashville, Tennessee on May 22, 1865. He is described as having a dark complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, 5'6" tall. Post war records show that he served for 4 years. In the 1860 census he is age 23. He appeared in the 1920 Pension List.

Beulah Lee Dickerson Grissom, 95, of Christiansburg, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012. She was born in Floyd County on July 5, 1916 to the late William M. and Minnie Pearl Reed Dickerson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Hubert Leonard Grissom; a daughter, Kathryn Lucretia Bland Logan; a grandson, Aaron Lee Bland; sisters, Josephine Weddle, Barbara Hoge, and Virginia Jordan; and a brother, Ray Dickerson. Survivors include sisters, Jane Lane and Betty Lou Crouch; brother-in-law, Paul A. Weddle; sister-in-law, Lena Grissom; sons, Donald Lee Grissom and his companion, Mary Sheets, William Larry and Jeri Grissom; daughters, Linda G. William Ray Dickerson, 91, of Ellett, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. He was born in Floyd County, Va., on March 18, 1920, to the late William Mullen and Sallie Pearl Reed Dickerson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Blanche Lorraine Hall Dickerson. He was veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. He was retired from the Power plant at V.P.I. & S.U. with 34 years of service. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Henry R. and Diane Dickerson, and Mike and Shirley Dickerson, all of Blacksburg; five grandchildren, Gretchen Alexander, Heather Linkous, Christie Dickerson, Ginger Dickerson, and Leslie Dickerson; three sisters, Beulah Grissom, of Christiansburg, Jane Lane, of Richmond, and Betty Crouch, of North Carolina; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Olen Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in the North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Ellett. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, November 4, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

Barbara Dickerson Hoge, 76, of Pembroke, Va., departed this life on Monday, January 21, 2008, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born in Montgomery County, Va., on September 24, 1931, she was a daughter of the late William Mullins and Pearl Reed Dickerson.

She had been employed The First National Exchange Bank (NBB) before her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard T. Hoge; her son, John Hoge; and her sisters, Josephine Weddle and Virginia Jordan.

She leaves to love and cherish her memory her daughter and son-in-law, Marie Hoge-Perkins and Kenneth B. Perkins; two grandchildren, Drew Hoge Perkins and Whitney Hoge Perkins, all of Prospect, Va.; sisters, Beulah Grissom, Betty Crouch and Jane Lane; brother, Ray Dickerson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank Elmer Dickerson Sr., 84, of Fincastle, Va., passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Frank was born in Montgomery County on September 17, 1925. Frank met the love of his life, Isobel Simpson, when he came back from World War II and was visiting the children's home he was raised in. It was love at first sight. He married her on December 24, 1946, in Roanoke, Va. He served our country proudly in WWII and the Korean War in the United States Navy as a sea-bee. Frank was very proud and honored to be a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and an actual son of a confederate soldier. Frank enjoyed life and loved his family and church, but especially his boys. He also loved fishing, hunting, gardening and yard work, anything outdoors. Frank is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Isobel Dickerson; his sons, David Dickerson and Dennis Dickerson and his wife, Rose, of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Chad Dickerson and his wife, Christina, of Maryland, Leah Hunger and her husband, Shawn, of Virginia Beach, Brooke Perry and her husband, Kevin, of Buchanan, and David Lee Dickerson, of Roanoke; his special sister-in-law, Audrey Kelly, of Mill Creek; also, many nieces, nephews and close friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank E. Dickerson Jr.; brother, Byron West; and sister, Irene Brown. Friends are welcome to call Friday, October 16, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville. A funeral service celebrating Frank's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Mill Creek Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Randy Daniels.
