She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis W. Manning. Mabel was a dedicated member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. She was very active member in the choir, Ladies Aid, and many other church activities. She was employed with the Bent Mountain Green House for about 10 years before retiring to take care of her husband who had Parkinson Disease. She is survived by her son and wife, James Lee (Jimmie) and Beverly Manning; brother and wife, Carl and Claudine Wimmer, of Copper Hill, Va.; a sister and husband, Rheba (Toots) and Warren Richard, of Springfield, Va.; three grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Julie Manning, of Lynchburg, Va., Paula Tompkins, of Roanoke , Va., and Michelle and Chris Woods, of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Skyline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Floyd, Va., relatives and friends who cared for her and supported her during her long illness. was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Clingenpeel; and son, Lewis
Grubbs, Sr. Lillie
is survived by two grandsons, Joseph Grubbs, of Roanoke, Lewis Grubbs, Jr.
and Cindy Grubbs, of Georgia; also, three great grandchildren, Lance,
Christopher, and Joseph; sister, Mary Jane Farmer, of Kingsport, Tenn. Lillie
dedicated her life to the care of others. Caring for her husband injured in
the military and also who suffered from Parkinson's, as well as other family
members. Lillie loved to cook for family gatherings and tending to her garden
and her beloved flowers. A
special thanks to all her caregivers and especially Maxine Hall. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2016 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Covington, died January 22, 2009, at Abbey Hospice, at the age of 86. Son of the late Posey C. and
Frances A. Wimmer Manning, he was a member of Lovejoy United Methodist
Church, where he volunteered to keep the church and cemetery grounds for over
30 years. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps in 1945, where he served in World
War II on Okinawa, ferrying troops and supplies to the beach from supply and
troop ships and after WWII, served in China. Mr. Manning retired as concrete
construction foreman for Ballinger Paving Co. in Greenville, SC, and after
retirement enjoyed gardening and wood working. He was preceded in death by
son, Gerald L. Manning and also an infant son. Survivors include wife,
Virginia L. Manning; daughters and sons- in-law, Martha and Jim Hardman of
Covington, Lisa and Jerry Harvey of McCalla, AL; son and daughter- in-law,
Bob and Kay S. Manning of Thompson; grandchildren, Kelli Harvey, Melissa
Hardman, Patrick Harvey; sisters and brother-in-law, Lillie Mae Clinginpeel, Mary
Jane and Bernice Farmer; brother and sister-in-law, William and Gerri
Manning; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr.
Manning will be held Saturday, January 24, 2:00 PM, at Lovejoy United
Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Gravitt officiating and interment following
in Lovejoy UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Caldwell &
Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, on Friday January 23, from

Copper Hill, passed away Monday, July 16, 2007 after fighting a courageous
battle with cancer. He was a retired employee of Jones Motor Lines, and also
served in the U.S. Army. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Oliver W.
Manning, Sr.; mother, Pearl Puckett Manning Craighead; step-mother, Nellie W.
Manning; brothers, Herbert W. Manning, Cleveland Manning, Melvin H. Manning,
Bobby H. Manning, Benny L. Manning, Terry L. Manning and David W. Manning;
sisters, May Manning, Cammie Manning and Bondeen M.
Barger. He is survived by his special companion, June M. Graybill of Roanoke;
brothers, Oliver W. Manning, Jr. of Salem, Paul Manning, Larry and Rhonda
Manning, both of Copper Hill, Henry Manning of Floyd, Rocky and Celeste
Manning of Greensboro, N.C., and Michael Manning of Radford; sisters,
Katherine M. and Junior Sowers of Floyd, Linda M. and Tom Iddings of Riner;
special sister-in-law, Julia Manning of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Roanoke
Memorial 8 West for all their loving care and support. The family will
receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Maberry Funeral
Home, Floyd. A service to celebrate his life will be held 11 a.m. on
