She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edith L. Hobbs, Roanoke; one foster daughter, Mrs. Rita W. Williams, Roanoke; one brother, Mr. Herman T. Hill, Salem; one sister, Mrs. Ruth H. Phlegar, Salem; one grandson, Jack Hobbs, Roanoke; two great-grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; and six foster great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Lotz Salem Chapel with Elder Leonard Brammer officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends between 12:00 noon and 9:00 p.m. Monday at Lotz Salem Chapel.

HILL, Nancy Waldron, 84, of Salem, died on Tuesday, August 6, 1996 in a local nursing home. A lifelong Salem resident and member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Sidney and Melvin Waldron; two sisters, Dolly St. Clair and Gay Buck.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Hill Sr.; one son, Herman T. Hill Jr.; two sisters, Alice Buck and Elizabeth Combs; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Herman T. Hill, Sr., 96, lived and died at his home located in Roanoke County on Saturday, May 18, 2002.

He was born in Salem, Va. on October 29, 1905 and was witness to many changes in history. He worked at Old Virginia Brick Company, survived the Depression by taking on as many jobs as needed to support and wife and only son. He was one of the founding fathers of Wildwood Presbyterian Church, now known as New Hope Presbyterian Church, located in Salem. Church was not just on Sunday; it was a way of life. He served the church as Trustee and Elder. Learning to read at age 7, he began studying scriptures often quoting verses to help those needing guidance.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Waldron Hill. Surviving family include his son, Herman T. Hill, Jr. and wife Shelby; a sister, Ruth Phlegar; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Charles Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Salem Funeral Home, with the Rev. Keith Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, May 20, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son Salem Funeral Home.
