Helen Groff Light, 84, of 718 Ringgold Depot Road, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born November 17, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Groff and Cora Burke Groff. On August 9, 1941 she married Doye Washington Light, who predeceased her in July 1999.

Mrs. Light lived the earlier part of her life in Pittsylvania County and had lived in the Glenwood community since 1961. She was formerly a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. In 2002 she moved to the Ringgold area and became a member of Ringgold Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday school in the Eva Walton class. She was also a member of the Young At Heart. She had worked as secretary and as an agent at Gilbert Insurance Agency, retiring in 1976.

Mrs. Light is survived by a daughter, Linda L. Snead and her husband, James H. Snead of Ringgold; one sister, Irene Weatherford of Ringgold; and one granddaughter, April McKenzie and her husband, John of Springfield, Va. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Robert Miller, Arnold Groff, Noble Groff and Harry Groff; sisters, Lorena Pruitt, Edna Light, Ocie Reynolds and Nancy Bishop; and one great-grandchild, Erin McKenzie.

Graveside services for Mrs. Light will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Steve Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Surviving also are three daughters, Mrs. Joe Link, Check; Miss Clara Light and Miss Louise Light, both of Pilot; two other sons, Harley Light, Pilot and Carson Light, Salem; 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral was Wednesday at Havens Chapel. Elders J. P. Helms and Julius bocock officiated. Burial was in the Iddings Cemetery.

On November 19, 2010, our dear mother, Rheba Light Link, of Check, took her Savior's hand and left her earthly family to claim her reward in heaven. Rheba Light Link was born October 20, 1914 in Floyd County, Va. to Henry Jacob Light and Tempie Elizabeth Vest Light. She is the last surviving member of her family of nine siblings: Lacie (Archie) Vest, Harlie (Arlin), Hubert, Hulen, Roy (Norma), Carson (Hazel), Doy (Arlie), Clara and Louise. Many beloved nieces and nephews on the Link and Light side have been an important part of her life. On December 18, 1932, Rheba married Joseph Conner Link. They were married 31 years until Joe was taken from her and the family by a heart attack on November 18, 1963. To this union there were eight beloved children: Joan (Harless) Akers, Betty ( Ike) Reynolds, Mary (Cleve) Richardson, James (Peggy) Link, Danny Link, Brenda (Carl) Hungate, Paul Link, Allen (Pat) Link, and foster daughter, Joyce (Chris) Whittaker. Also left to cherish her memory are beloved family friends, Nancy Altice and Linda Pollard. Also preceding her in death were daughters-in-law, Darlene Link, Brenda Jenks and Karen Shepherd and sons-in-law, Ike Reynolds and Cleve Richardson. Rheba was called Granma by 29 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at the Iddings Cemetery at Terry's Fork. Friends may call at Gardner Funeral Home on Sunday November 21, 2010 after 12 p.m. where the family will be from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be no night visitation. Mildred Lee Dobbins Light, 95, of Pilot, went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2007. She was born July 13, 1911 to the late Cabell and Mary Dobbins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Light; son, Ronald Light; sisters, Edith and Martha Shelton; brother, James Dobbins; grandson, Phillip Correll and daughter-in-law, Beverly Light. She was a member of Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. Mildred taught school in one-room schools at Rifton, Poff and Possum Hollow in Floyd and Montgomery Counties. She will be greatly missed by all. Our loss is heaven's gain. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Wayne Correll, Roanoke; sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Shirley Light, Troutville, Wendell and Dianne Light, Donald and Beverly Light, all of Pilot; daughter-in-law, Julia Light, Pilot; grandchildren, Joan (Mark) Kesterson, Jeff (Kim), Barry (Heather), Larry, Paul, Tammy, Brian (Teresa), Amanda (Steve), Jerry (Teresa), Jason (Alyssa) Light; great-grandchildren, John, Zach, Gabrielle, Brittany, Robert, Brandon and MacKenzie; sisters, Helen Dobbins, Virginia (Irvin) Yates of Christiansburg; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Wimmer, Lucille Dobbins, both of Christiansburg. Bertha Light Wimmer, 91, of Pilot, Va., passed away on Friday, September 18, 2009. She was born on June 2, 1918, to Grover and Flora Light. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Wimmer; and sons, Gene Wimmer, Frank Wimmer, Marvin Wimmer and Ronnie Wimmer. Left to cherish her memory are her grandsons, Marvin Wimmer, Roanoke, Jeffrey Wimmer, and Scott Wimmer, of Christiansburg; granddaughters, Lisa Wimmer Watts, Roanoke, Michelle Wimmer Austin, Riner; greatgrandchildren, Adam and Sarah Wimmer, Brian Wimmer, Brandi and Joshua Watts, Tyler and Coy Austin; special daughters in-law and friends, Betty Wimmer, Riner, and Bonnie Wimmer, Christiansburg. She is also survived by her loving extended family at Wheatland Retirement Home, Christiansburg. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the Horne Funeral Service. Bonnie Light Hinkley, 81, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd Hinkley; parents, Albert and Luemma Ferris Light; one brother, Chester Light; one sister, Fannie Light Spradlin. She is survived by two brothers, Archie Light and wife, Joyce, of Christiansburg, and Ray Light and wife, Frances, of Salem; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; also, a special great-niece, Teresa Patrick. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jube Burk and the Rev. Jerry Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Heritage Hall Nursing Home and Lewis Gale-Montgomery Regional Hospital.
