Baptist Church Cemetery. 1 is for the same dates as this Joseph but his

Born on June 11, 1908 in Carroll County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Walter Madison Mabry and Julida Branscombe Mabry. She was the widow of Daniel Thomas Whitlock, who died on October 27, 1953. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, having joined on August 27, 1939 and was formerly active in her Circle. Mrs. Whitlock was employed in the Dietary Department of St. Luke's Hospital, having retired in 1968. She loved to play dominoes at the Mercer County Commission on Aging. In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Thomas
Whitlock; stepdaughter, Ernestine Oliver; stepson, Daniel T. (Toodles)
Whitlock, Jr.; Grace was lovingly called "Granny Grace" by some of the family members. In years past, she was known for her beautiful flower gardens in her yard at 309 Pearis Street, which were a picture of colors. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Marcella Whitlock, of the Havens in Princeton; two step-grandchildren, Raymond "Buddy" Oliver and wife Frances of Newport News, Va. and William Frank "Shank" Oliver and wife Frankie of Tucson, Ariz.; nieces, Helen Young of Bluefield, Pansy Tankersley of Bishop, Va., Judy Worrell of Lawton, Okla., Gladys Humphry of Vinton, Va., Juleda Beard of Daleville, Va., Ruby Hall of Winston-Salem, N.C., Betty Sue Edwards of Roanoke, Va. and Gay Hall; nephews, Leonard Nester of Bluefield, William Mabry, Melvin Mabry and Alvin Mabry of Roanoke, Va., Ronnie Clifton of Hardy, Va., Rannie Clifton of Daleville, Va., Hunter Mabry of Waynesboro, Va., Kenneth Mabry of Kentucky, David Hall of High Point, N.C. and Glen Hall of Meadows of Dan, Va.; a special friend, Fred Ables was like a son to her and visited her often. The last years of her life were spent with her extended family at Westwood Health Care Center, where some of her special caregivers were Wilma Semones, Pat Justice, Mary Beck, Patty Davidson, Reba Whitt and Yvonne Buchannon. Floyd, passed away at her home Wednesday, December 19, 2012. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Dalton Hylton; parents G.A. and Lillie Whitlock; four brothers,
Denton, Elinos, William, Ray Whitlock; one sister, Beatrice Whitlock; and one
granddaughter, Mary Hylton Deuell. She is survived by her sons and
daughters-in-law, Dalton Harrison Hylton (Brenda), Norman Hylton (Pam),
Russell Hylton (Janet); daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Hylton, Joyce
Blevins (Terry), Brenda Pennington (Bruce); grandchildren and spouses Chris
Hylton, Kevin Blevins (Stephanie), Daniel Blevins (Amanda), John Shelor
(Robin), Sonya Caldwell (Craig); great-grandchildren, Zachary Deuell, Emily
Deuell, Charleigh Hylton, Dezi Blevins, Larah Blevins, Sabrie Blevins, Johnny
Shelor, Charlotte Shelor; Brother and Spouse Andrew Whitlock (Thelma);

passed away Friday, April 12, 2002 at his home. He was born in Floyd County
to G.A. and Lillie P. Whitlock on November 17, 1921. A veteran of World War
II, he served in the 1503 r d Army Air Force as a radio operator. Mr.
Whitlock was a ruling elder, as well as a member of the Presbyterian Church
of Floyd. William had retired from being a dairy farmer. He was a lifetime
member of Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854. Mr. Whitlock served on the Floyd County
Board of Supervisors for 24 years, also on the New River Planning Commission,
and he was also a Director of Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers for 18
years. He served as president of the Floyd County Farm Bureau and was on many
other civic organizations. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George
Denton and Elinos Whitlock. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vestal
Whitlock; son, Kerry Whitlock of Floyd; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice
and Warren Shelor of Floyd, Cheryl and Larry Beckner of Roanoke; four
grandchildren, Ronnie and Donna Shelor, Brian Beckner, Amy Beckner; four
sisters and two brothers-in-law, Beatrice Whitlock, Bonnie and Dalton Hylton,
both of Floyd, Vera Collis of Roanoke, Elizabeth and Wade Eanes of Pilot; two
brothers and one sister-in-law, Andrew and Thelma Whitlock of Lynchburg, Ray
Whitlock of Floyd; mother-in-law, Olive Austin; brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Jack and Louise Austin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. at
Presbyterian Church of Floyd with the Rev. Shirley Larson officiating.
Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery with military honors by Floyd
V.F.W. Post #7854. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday at Gardner Funeral
Home where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations
may be made to Floyd County Rescue Squad and Floyd County Fire Department.
