Laura Ruth Whitenack, 78, of Knob Hill Road, York, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Everett H. Whitenack.

The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 Second St., New Freedom. Burial will be in New Freedom Cemetery. Viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Mrs. Whitenack was born at New Market, Frederick County, Md. She was the daughter of the late Maude Anna (Krout) Godshall.

She had been employed at the then York Valley Inn.

Mrs. Whitenack is survived by an aunt, Corinne Adams of York, and nieces and nephews.

Officiating at the service will be the Rev. David L. Weaver, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Freedom.

Indie Whitenack King, age 62, died in a Roanoke hospital Tuesday night, Feb. 8, 1977. She was the wife of Arvil King. Claudene Whitenack Conner, age 73, died at her home Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1989. She was Postmaster of the Check Post Office for 23 years, having retired in 1975. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Murrie (Joyce) Poff, Check, Mrs. C.D. He is survived by his wife, Mary Susan Castle Whitenack of Floyd; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leo Castle Whitenack of Charlottesville, and Lynn Crawford and Marilen Whitenack of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Matthew Whitenack and Kery Whitenack of Atlanta, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. Ruby Ferguson LaPrad, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, January 4, 1996, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Clyde Whitenack and R. Harry LaPrad. She was a member of Airlee Court Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Carlesa Shreves Burger, Boones Mill; stepdaughter, Shirley Willis; stepson, Harry (Sonny) LaPrad Jr., both of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Crystal Shreves Naff, Jenny Shreves Flora, Bethany Shreves; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Elma Custer, Pensacola, Fla., Mrs. Nira Lawrence, Charlottesville; sister-in-law, Lillian Ferguson, Roanoke; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakey's North Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. John Hamric officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Airlee Court Baptist Church or Goodwill Industries. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel.

After a long illness, Douglas B. Whitenack, 89, of Roanoke, Va., passed from this life into the arms of his Lord early on Monday morning, May 26, 2019. He rejoices to be with his mom, dad and dog, Candie.

Doug served in the United States Navy and the Army and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Lori and husband, David; niece, Peggy Lloyd; stepson, Randy Hylton, brothers-in-law, Tom and Steve Powell; two granddaughters, India and Shannon; and three great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service with Honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Oakey’s East Chapel. Interment will be held at a later date.

She was a member of Bonsack Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Maynard Maye.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joe Anne and Elton T. (Shorty) Jones Jr.; a granddaughter, Leigh Anne Vulgan and husband, J. Michael; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Ashleigh Vulgan; a sister, Mrs. Edna Turner and husband, Zane, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 1997, at Oakey's North Chapel, with Dr. Robert G. Moore III officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
