Elva Gay Marcus
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Elva Gay Quesenberry Marcus, 80, of 8059 White Avenue, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011.
A native of West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Quesenberry and Lona Shelton Grubbs and the widow of Roy Marcus. Mrs. Marcus retired from Odom Ace Hardware.
Survivors include her daughter, Regina Wilbanks and husband, Wilbur; five grandchildren, Kim High and husband, Grant, Randy Howarth, Trish Taylor, and Lee Wilbanks; three great-grandchildren, Damian Howarth, and Jacob and Jordan High; a brother, Donald Quesenberry and wife, May; and two sisters, Shirley Blankenship and Ann Patterson and husband, Hubert. She was predeceased by a brother, Billy Silvers.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Westgate Freewill Baptist with Rev. Kevin Smith officiating.

FLATWOODS, Ky. - Rellie Iford Quesenberry, 94, of Flatwoods, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, March 5, 2004 at Kings Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born June 28, 1909 at Dougspur, Va., a son of the late Harley Clayton and Larmie Turpin Quesenberry. Iford was a retired miner after 43 years service with the Ogla Coal Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Conley Quesenberry in October 2003; three brothers: Navie, Harvey, and Francis Quesenberry; and two sisters: Annie Curto and Dovie Quesenberry.

Surviving include: Four sons: Navie Quesenberry and wife Rita of Flatwoods, David Quesenberry and wife Elsie of Silver Springs, Md., Robert Quesenberry and wife Evelyn of Flatwoods, Richard Quesenberry and wife Linda of Gaithersburg, Md.; one daughter: Sue and husband James Landrum of Flatwoods; two brothers: Avis and Coy Quesenberry of Pulaski, Va.; one sister: Macy Patton of Pulaski; 10 grandchildren: Scott, Shannon, Tammy, Karen, Vicki, Carla, Rita, Bobby, Mark, and Sarah; 18 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Russell Schmidt at the Preston Family Funeral Home, Ashland, Ky. Interment will be in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Avis Blane Quesenberry, 89, of Pulaski passed away Thursday July 2, 2009 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born in Carroll County on November 12, 1919 and was the son of the late Harley and Larmie Turpin Quesenberry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, infant son, Danny, brothers, Navy, Harley, Iford and Harvey and sisters, Annie Curto and Macie Patton. At the age of two he moved with his family to the coal mining community of Six, W.Va., where he resided until his early twenties when he moved to Pulaski. During World War II he worked at the Bag Loading Plant, where he met his bride, Ruth Mitchell. They were married on August 6, 1945. He was employed by RCA and later at Pulaski Furniture, where he worked for over 35 years. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Edward Lawson, of Melbourne, Fla., sons and daughters-in-law, David and Doris Quesenberry, of Pulaski and Michael and Leesa Quesenberry, of Dublin; grandsons and spouses, Randy and Natalie Quesenberry, of Fairlawn, Scott and Karen Quesenberry of Chantilly, Va., Chad and Drew Lawson of Florida, Darrin and Richard Quesenberry, of Dublin; granddaughter and husband, Kristia and Myles O'Neill, of Florida; also seven great-grandchildren, Chandler, Hunter and Kerrigan Quesenberry, of Fairlawn, Taeghan, Aislinn, Kenzie and Kylinn O'Neill, of Florida. He has one surviving brother and sister-in-law, Coy and Ethelene Quesenberry, of Pulaski. He has many nieces, nephews and cousins, including one special cousin, Vinton Quesenberry and his wife, Helen, of Indian Valley. Funeral service will be held Monday July 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Vinton Quesenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski.

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Thada Lee Quesenberry, age 84, a longtime resident, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.

Thada was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Pulaski, to the late Shippie and James Highley Sutphin. She grew up in Pulaski with her nine brothers and sisters. She graduated from Pulaski High School on May 26, 1946 and began working at Jefferson Mills in Pulaski. Thada married Harley “Pokie” F. Quesenberry on Dec. 19, 1953. Shortly thereafter they moved to Charlottesville where they began their life together. Thada and Pokie had no children but they helped raise lots of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley F. Quesenberry; brothers, Robie, French, Woodie, Jack and Farley; sisters, Jewel Mae, Roberta White, Jenny Heslep and Dot Gertis.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Emily Sutphin of Roanoke; longtime companion Al Crawford; 12 nieces and nephews; 18 great nieces and nephews; 21 great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of lifelong friends.

Thada worked for Wilhoit Motors prior to becoming a bookkeeper in the accounting office and business office at UVA. She was a long time member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church. She served as treasurer of the Thelma Carter Circle, participated in the women’s group – JOY. She helped with the annual Special Nights Out program, Vacation Bible School and numerous other activities. She will be remembered for her love of family, especially family gatherings, sense of humor, devotion to friends, church and special pets. She also loved to collect angels.

A memorial service celebrating Thada’s life will be held Monday, Sept. 10, 11 a.m., at Cherry Avenue Christian Church, with Mr. Scott Carter officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Teague Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank all the friends who helped her through her illness by their kind words and visits, especially Dee Luck, her private nurse’s aide, Hospice of Piedmont and the staff of Morningside Assisted Living.

Surviving are three daughters, Lessie Cox of Indian Valley, Verna Long of Blacksburg and Aretta Peters of Baltimore, Md.; four sons, Stanley Quesenberry and Vivian Quesenberry of Dugspur, Melvin Quesenberry of Harrisonburg and Russell Quesenberry of Taverese, Fla.; a sister, Jocie Hollandsworth of Floyd; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, with the Rev. Alfred Pinkerton and Elder Hale Terry officiating. 

Burial will follow in Marshall Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ham Cox, son-in-law, Jack Arnold and grandson, Seth Arnold.

She was preceded in death by her parents, McKinely and LuVenia Phillips, two brothers, Marvin and Roscoe Phillips, three great-grandchildren, Misty Jo Cox, Cindy and Sandy Quesenberry.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Evelyn Quesenberry Phillips, Willis, Mary Helen and Rev. Vinton Quesenberry, Indian Valley; granddaughters and husbands, Vicki and Danny Belcher, Becky and Lloyd Cox, both of Willis; grandsons and wives, Andrew Phillips, Willis, Douglas and Carm Quesenberry, Darryl and Lisa Quesenberry, both of Friendsville, Tenn., Danny and Rhonda Quesenberry, Mascot, Tenn., Duane and Valorie Quesenberry, Cincinnati, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil C. Quesenberry; cherished grandson, Brian William Quesenberry; parents, C.L. and Stella Gallimore; brothers and sisters, Cline, Leslie, Vinton, Arnie, Roxie, and Edith. 

She is survived by her son, Billy and wife, Brenda, Muscle Shoals, Ala.; daughter, Kaye and husband, Tommy, Roanoke; grandson, David and wife, Kristy, Mosley, Va.; great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Ella; special grandchildren, Tommy and wife,, Valerie, Mary Carroll and husband, Tad, Juliet and husband, Chris, and William; special great-grandchildren, Logan, Forrest, Emma, and Abby; sister, Isabel; brothers, Charles and wife, Oneda, Roger and wife, Erma Jean; several nieces and nephews; caregivers and companions, Judith and Jeff; her church family and many special friends.

Living for purposes unseen and greater than oneself came naturally to our mother, and prayer was always the language of her heart.

Mrs. Mary Turman Quesenberry of Sylvatus, died in the Pulaski Hospital, February 28, at the age of 79.

Survivors include: 3 daughters, Mrs. Etta Blankenship, Hillsville, Mrs. Agnes Richardson and Mrs. Velma Goad, Sylvatus; 4 sons, Roy Quesenberry, Hillsville; Meef Quesenberry, Sylvatus, Evins Quesenberry, Hillsville, Friel Quesenberry, Kingsport, Tenn; 2 brothers, Floyd Turman and Joseph Turman, Dugspur; 4 sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Marshall, Hillsville, Mrs. Almedia Marshall, Vesta, Mrs. Verta Quesenberry, Dugspur, Mrs. Mattie Marshall, Dugspur; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Hampton Marshall and Elder Robert Hill conducted the services.

Services were at the Sylvatus Baptist Church and burial in the Quesenberry cemetery.

RADFORD - Loudie Quesenberry Dalton, 88, died Sunday, March 21, 1999 at her home.

Born on Oct. 1, 1910 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Issac P. and Lura Hollandsworth Quesenberry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Sherman Dalton, and three brothers, Golden, Jason and Sylvan Quesenberry.

Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Troy Hubert Sr. and Janet P. Dalton, Radford; Lilburn Douglas Dalton, Radford; three grandchildren and their spouses, Pam and Charlie Price, Radford; Teresa and Tony Wright, Shiloh; Troy H. Jr. and Lori Dalton, Dublin; three great grandchildren, Jessica Easter, Amanda Blankenship, Haley Brook Dalton; two nieces, Marie Q. Warden, Fieldale; Mrs. Carl (Clydie) Gunter, Collinsville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 23, at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dallas Vines officiating. Burial followed in the Dalton Family Cemetery in Pulaski County. Arrangements by Seavers Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home, Radford.
