He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown. He was a member of AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown. He is survived by one daughter, Joyce Noland of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Betty Pemberton of Virginia; one stepson, Donald Craighead of West Virginia; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Shirley Turner-Kellbaugh; two stepsons, George Craighead and Thomas Craighead; one sister, Myrtle Wehmer; and one brother, Harry Elkins Jr. Services were held at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown; military honors and burial followed in Rest Haven Cemetery.
