James Warner Casteel Sr.,
86, of Floyd, joined family and friends in Heaven on Wednesday, June 10,
2020. He was born to Henry and Dorothy Casteel on November 13, 1933.
Jim had a great many
loves in his life, first and foremost his wife of 63 years, Carrie. But he
also loved his many friends from his high school buddies who remained
friends for life, to his former co-workers at the Post Office and at Bob's
Radio and TV, to his regular golf and card buddies. He loved his country
serving in the United States Navy as a radio operator in the VP-56 Squadron
and providing funeral honors for years as part of the American Legion. He
loved Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd, where he was a founding member,
spending countless hours at Great Oaks. Even as he was losing names and
faces because of dementia, he could recite the par for each hole. Whether
from the big smile he often wore or a funny story or joke, he loved to make
people smile. Sometimes the jokes weren't great, but when he and Carrie
started laughing it was contagious to everyone else in the room. To those
who knew him, it's redundant to say that Jim was an active member of the
Floyd United Methodist Church and many other groups in Floyd County. If he
was involved, he was going to be an active member and for much of his life
moved from one thing to the next, with a passion for everything he did. He
was an amateur woodworker and would often sign the pieces when he gave them
to the kids, one often used signature read, "made with little skill,
but lots of love,"which was true for almost everything he did.
He is survived by his
wife, Carrie; children, James Jr. (Donna) Casteel of Goodlettesville,
Tenn., Paula (Keith) Bolte of Blacksburg, Va., and Clark (Amy) Casteel of
Danville, Va.; grandchildren, John (Kristen) Casteel, Margaret Casteel,
Juli Layne, Taylor Bolte, Ethan Casteel, Jacob Casteel; five
great-grandchildren; brother, Leighton Casteel of Roanoke Va.; and several
nieces and nephews.
A private graveside
service will be held in the Jacksonville Cemetery with Military Rites by
Faith Fellowship. In lieu of flowers, Jim would really like it if you
called an old friend and told them a funny story, played a round of golf, or
volunteered in your community. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.maberryfuneralhome.com.

Carrie Lou Davis Casteel
January 29, 2022
Carrie Lou Davis Casteel,
83, of Floyd, passed away on January 29, 2022. She was born in Clay County,
Kentucky, on January 29, 1939, and lived in Floyd, Virginia, for most of
her life. She remained loyal to her Kentucky roots but loved her hometown
of Floyd.
Carrie and her husband
Jim shared a love of Virginia Tech Basketball, the Great Oaks Country Club,
and travel – having visited every state in the country, often alongside
their lifelong friends. Carrie took immense pride in her home and enjoyed
the company of the birds, deer and other critters who would visit the
special piece of Floyd that she and Jim built together. Carrie served on
the Floyd County Board of Elections for many years and was a long-time
member of Floyd United Methodist Church.
Carrie was preceded in
death by her dear husband of 62 years, James Warner Casteel Sr. and her
parents, Charles Reed and Betsy Clark Goode.
Survivors include her
children, James Jr. (Donna) Casteel of Goodlettesville, Tenn., Paula
(Keith) Bolte of Blacksburg Va., and Clark (Amy) Casteel of Danville, Va.;
her grandchildren, John (Kristen) Casteel, Margaret Casteel, Juli Layne,
Taylor (Lauren) Bolte, Ethan Casteel, and Jacob Casteel, as well as five
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Whitlow
(Stewart) of Portsmouth Va.; special niece, Emily (Erik) Carl of Suffolk
Va.; and her very special Kentucky cousins, James Ronnie Johnson, Charles
Johnson, and Betsy June Carroll.
Carrie was a wonderful
mother, granny, aunt, cousin and friend who had a wonderful smile and
infectious laugh that her family and friends will long remember and
cherish.
A private graveside
service will be held in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family offers a
special thank you to her fantastic caregivers over the last several years,
Wanda Lang and the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living and Kindred Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, Carrie would like it if you said a special thanks to
all the caregivers you know, got outside to plant things and feed the birds.
But most importantly, spend some extra special time with your family
telling stories and laughing. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.maberryfuneralhome.com.

CONNER, Margaret Pugh,

beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, generous actions, and kind spirit,
Margaret sewed a seed of love in the hearts of all her family and friends.
Throughout her life, Margaret loved to gaze up into the sky and admire the
clouds. So now in remembrance of her, we will look upon the clouds, knowing
that she has found peace in her Heavenly home, and will be assured; there
is no night without a dawn, no winter without a spring, so beyond death's
dark silence, her soul will joyfully sing. Margaret has gone ahead of a
family that loves and adores her and will miss her deeply. Surviving are
