She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, J. Harry and Annie Y. Hungate of Floyd; one brother, Ray Compton of Lewisburg, W.Va., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 1997, at Gardner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Spradling officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Gardner Funeral Home, where the family will be from 7 until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Floyd County Rescue Squad or Floyd County Fire Department.

Survived by two daughters, Gerry, Mrs. Joseph Dakin, of New Lenox; and Donna, Mrs. Ray Galuszka, of Elwood; one son, James (Phyllis) Compton of St. Louis, MO; a daughter-in-law, Juanita (the late Luther) Compton of Seneca, IL; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Born in Floyd County, VA, she lived in New Lenox the past 13 years. Also preceded by her husband, Frank J. Compton (1985); her parents, Jay and Dathner (Harmon) Thomas; two brothers, Alva and Jessie Thomas. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Coalwood, WV. Family will receive friends at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, Cedar and Francis Rd., New Lenox on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. Service Monday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hilton Griswold and Rev. Earl Thornton, celebrants. Family will receive friends at the Cravens Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV, Wednesday. Interment Thursday at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, WV.

PRINCETON — Roy Marvin Compton, 82, of 12th Street, Princeton, died Sunday morning, June 12, 2011 at his home.

Born June 30,1928 in Corrine, he was the son of the late Frank Compton and Nettie Blankenship Compton Church.

Roy had served as a magistrate for 14 years. He also served the public as a deputy with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department for more than 21 years, a Justice of the Peace for four years and a constable for four years. He was a member of the Princeton Church of Christ and the Princeton Masonic Lodge #134 A.F. & A.M.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amy D. Compton.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Nana Lou Asbury Compton; two children, Danny R. Compton and wife Sue of Glenwood and Debbie J, Meadows and husband Sammy of Princeton; three grandchildren, Michelle Ramsey and husband Mark of Tennessee, Jason Meadows and wife Gretchen of Lerona, and Staci Meadows of Princeton; eight great-grandchildren, Krista, Chad, Joshua, Savannah, Mackenzie, Kaylee, Tyler and Taylor; two sisters, Peggy Wade of Georgia and Sherry Browning of Beckley.

Funeral services for Roy Compton will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Gary Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where graveside Masonic rites will be conducted by the Princeton Masonic Lodge #134. Members of the Masonic Lodge will also serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. M. Ray Compton , 88, of Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the Brier Nursing home in Roncerverte, following an extended illness. Mr. Compton was born May 25, 1919 at Floyd, VA and was the son of the late Henry Tazewell and Dora DeHart Compton. Mr. Compton was a conductor for N.W. Railroad and master carpenter, a member of Shuck Memorial Baptist Church, a WWII Army veteran, having served in France in 1944 and was a recipient of two purple hearts. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and seven brothers. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Ann Compton of Lewisburg, WV; daughters, Wanda Carr of Lewisburg, WV; Judy Rose of Lady Lake, FL; and Shirley Robson of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Dean Rose, Kristie Veitch, Patrick Patterson, Susan Martin, Stacey Smith and 11 great grandchildren.
Services will be 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Shuck Memorial Baptist Church in Lewisburg with Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Park at Princeton, WV.

Wanda Joyce Carr, of Lewisburg West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the age of 79.

Wanda was born to parents Milton Ray and Elizabeth Anne Compton on October 14, 1939 in Floyd, Va. She grew up as the eldest of three sisters and attended Mullens West Virginia High School. In 1963, she moved to Washington DC where she married had children and went to secretarial trade school. In Washington DC she worked most of her career life as a title insurance administrative assistant and later in life returned to her home state of West Virginia where she cared for her aging parents in Lewisburg. After suffering a sudden illness she moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to be with her family.

Wanda was a talented artist with many passions but most of all enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by two children Kristie Anne Veitch (Thomas) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Patrick James Patterson (Stephanie) of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, 4 grandchildren. Hunter, Noel, Jill and Callie and her sister Judy Rose. She is preceded in death by her parents Milton and Elizabeth; and her sister, Shirley Robson.

A tribute to her life will be held in the fall in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
