She was born January 5, 1920 in Cluster Springs, Halifax County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Raymond Peter and Sadie Adams Williams. Mrs. Boaz was a homemaker and a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church where she belonged to the Sara Lynn Sunday School Class and the flower guild. She loved sewing and made many doll clothes for the Presbyterian Children’s Home. She was also an avid gardener and provided flowers for many church functions. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, David L. Boaz of Clifton Forge. Also surviving are a daughter Jane Boaz Wood and her husband, Charlie of Richmond; three sisters: Grace Williams of South Boston, Jenny Jones and her husband, Espey, also of South Boston, and Betty Stacy & her husband, Pat of Cary, North Carolina; two brothers: Raymond P. "Buster" Williams and his wife, Mattie Lee of Manassas, and James R. "Dick" Williams & his wife Mickey, of Vienna; a brother-in-law, Cecil Granger of Halifax, as well as three grandchildren: Sara Elizabeth "Sally" Wood Nystrom & her husband, Jon of Richmond, Laura Jane Wood of Richmond, and Joseph David Wood of Blacksburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret W. Edmondson, Essie Mae W. Phelps, Nell Williams, Louise Williams, and Kathleen W. Granger, and two brothers, George Williams and John Williams. R.A. Wailes, assisted by Rev. H.N. Soyars and Rev. L.G. Tinnell, conducting the services. The Junior Class at Turbeville furnished both the active pall bearers and flower bearers for the impressive service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miss Williams died at the Halcyon Hospital South Boston Tuesday from pneumonia and injuries she received in an automobile accident Wednesday night last week when the coupe in which she was riding with Louis Milam, a Turbeville student, crashed in the fog with a truck belonging to Greenburg, Danville. She was born at Turbeville in March 1922, the daughter of Raymond P. and Sadie Adams Williams. She was a member of the Turbeville Presbyterian Church and an outstanding student at Turbeville. Besides her father and mother, she is survived by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Joe Terry of South Boston; Miss Essie Mae Williams of Danville, Laura, Grace, Lee, Kathleen, Virginia and Betty Joyce, Raymond, Jr. , George John and Richard Williams, all of Turbeville. He earned 5 Battle Stars, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, the American Theater Service Ribbon, the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the WWII Victory Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. He gladly received his Honorable Discharge on November 20, 1945. On June 13, 1959 he married the late Mattie Collie of Calvary, Halifax County, VA. They were married for 48 years. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 34 years at National and Dulles international Airports. He was also a 46 year member of Manassas Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers George Williams and John Williams; sisters, Nell Williams, Louise Williams, Essie Mae Phelps, Margaret Edmundson, Kathleen Granger, Laura Boaz and Grace Williams. Survivors include his brother James R. Williams of Vienna, sisters, Virginia Jones of South Boston, and Betty Stacy of Cary, NC; son Peter Williams of Manassas; daughters, Ellen McEldowney and her husband, John of Charleston, WV and Penny Abernathy and her husband, Eric of Bristow; granddaughter, Brooke Abernathy; grandsons, Nate Abernathy and John McEldowney; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Found and Sons Lee Funeral Chapel, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA 20109. Funeral service will be on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Manassas Presbyterian Church, 8201 Ashton Avenue, Manassas, VA 20109. Betty was born in Halifax County to the late Raymond Peter Williams and Sadie Amanda Adams Williams. She was raised in Halifax County where she graduated from Turbeville High School. Mrs. Stacy worked for Optometrists Dr. Frank Godbold in South Boston and Dr. Joel C. Whaley in Asheboro, N.C. She also served as office manager for Dr. Eddie Stiles, MD, in Apex, N.C., as well as Dr. Jack Upchurch, DDS, Dr. Dan Averett, DDS, and Dr. Riley Pleasants, DDS, in Raleigh N.C. Betty is survived by her husband, Pat Stacy, of the home; one sister, Jenny Jones and her husband, Espey R. Jones, of South Boston; a brother, James R. Williams and his wife, Mickey, of Vienna; a sister-in-law, Nancy Williams of Fla.; a brother-in-law, Cecil Granger of Halifax; 13 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews and seven great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven sisters, Margaret W. Edmondson, Essie Mae W. Phelps, Nell Williams, Laura W. Boaz, Louise Williams, Grace Williams and Kathleen W. Granger; and three brothers, Raymond Williams, George Williams and John Williams. April 15 at 11 a.m. a memorial service will be held at Dan River Baptist Church, 1228 Dan River Church Road, Halifax. The service will be led by the Rev. Jeaux Simmons. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Interment at the church cemetery will be private. The celebration of life service will be conducted by the Rev. Jim Tubbs April 30 at 2 p.m. at the Glenaire, 4000 Glenaire Circle, Cary N.C.
