JEWETT, LANCE, LANZ posted by Karl Beckstrand on Monday, November 22, 1999

I am trying to locate information on my ggg grandfather, Samuel JEWETT, who was married to Sophia LANCE (or LANZ) about 1843 in Morgan (now Noble) County. They had one daughter, Cynthia, born Nov. 26, 1844 in Akron, I believe. Samuel is purported to have died on the Great Lakes (between 1843-1846). His widow and daughter joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirtland (Lake Cty). Sophia remarried in Nouvoo, IL, and they migrated to Utah after that. I'm seeking any records on Samuel--birth, marriage, or death. (I'm hoping to find info on his parents too.) Thanks.

Myrtle DEANE b August 11, 1897 Key West, Florida, the 9th of 12 children (6 girls and 6 boys) born to William Henry DEANE and Jessie Ann Elizabeth Mackey DUNBAR. During her tenure at ST. Johns Episcopal Orphanage in Painesville, Lake county, Ohio, she cared for my sister and me there in 1940. Later she taught at the St. Simon School in Woodland Heights, Ohio. She died 31 Aug 1998 in Philadelphia, PA at the age of 101. As a youth, she excelled academically in a segregated school and became a teacher in Key West and Stuart, Florida. Later she attended the Bishop Tuttle School of Social Work in Raleigh, North Carolina for 2 years on a scholarship. The first woman of color to be admitted and elected to the community of the Convent of the Transfiguration in Glendale, Ohio. Resistance to her admission, which would racially integrate the community, was overridden by the support of Bishop Denby of Cleveland. Sister Myrtle DEANE remained with the Sisters for twenty-seven years, leaving in 1965 to became a Roman Catholic. Myrtle DEANE’s maternal grandparents were a Scottish physician who served on a ship and a Bahamian Negress who had seven daughters. Miss DEANE's paternal grandfather was an American Indian from Virginia who had a boat in which he helped slaves escape from Virginia to the Bahamas. Found out, he too was forced to take refuge in the Bahamas where he died young but of natural causes. Miss DEANE's father, William Henry DEANE at age 16 was taken on a freighter captained by a friend of his father’s and taught to cook for the staff. Later in life he worked for 44 years for “Montsalvatge and Reed,” the largest wholesale grocery in Key West, becoming Manager of Operations., in charge of the warehouse on the dock in downtown Key West, Florida. CLINE, LLOYD posted by Marty Stetz on Sunday, November 28, 1999

Huldah LLOYD was b. 6 May 1817 in Ohio. Married Herman CLINE 24 Dec 1835 in Willoughby Twp. She died 10 Aug 1852. Am looking for information concerning her parents. Possible that she was the daughter of either Thomas LLOYD (b. about 1792 in Massachusetts) or Leicester LLOYD (b. about 1794 in Massachusetts). Thomas LLOYD and Leicester LLOYD both owned land in what is now Wickliffe, Lake County. CLINE family might have also owned land near the LLOYD's. Would appreciate any help establishing a Huldah LLOYD and Thomas or Leicester LLOYD link.
