ROANOKE-Winnie Wade Turner passed away Thursday, October 9, 2003 in Manassas.

Early in life, she came to believe that Bible study and Christian education would improve the world. She received her education from Willis High School and graduated from Viaud High School in Roanoke. She completed ten classes at the Roanoke Center of the University of Richmond Off-Campus School of Christian Studies. She was instrumental in the university tooffer a special class in Roanoke, called "Poetical and Wisdom Books of the Old Testaments," and she also recruited members for that class. Dr. George M. Modlin, Past President of the University, came to Roanoke and presented her certificate. She had a strong belief that God has an answer to all needs and problems and she shared this word with others. As a child, she memorized long passages of scripture and as an adult she never forgot them. She loved people, it was her greatest joy to be a blessing to others and see others grow in Grace. Her favorite scripture was John 14:27. She served six years on the committee of the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association. She was a member of the Garden City Baptist Church, where she taught the historical background of the Bible and also at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she was a former member. She taught a Sunday School class at Garden City Baptist. She was President of the WMU (Women's Missionary Union) at Garden City Baptist Church. She was dedicated to her family, church, and community.

She was a daughter of Levi Berdine Wade and Julia Ann Cox Wade, who lived in Willis, and are buried in the Greasy Creek Church Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry F. Turner, Sr.; three brothers, Kerry, Verman, and Galen Wade; three sisters, Reva W. Williams, Mae W. Dickerson, and Ima W. Wade. Surviving are: three sons and daughters-in-law, H.F. Jr. and Becky Tuner of Port Orange, Florida, Wade T. and Bonnie Turner of Manassas, Dean R. Turner of Roanoke; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Virginia Nalls of Haymarket. Funeral service was held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel on Monday, October 13, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend George Stevenson officiating. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton.

GALEN WALTER WADE
SALEM-Galen Walter Wade, 84, a native of Floyd, a faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly at a Salem hospital to his heavenly home, September 4, 1999 on his 60th wedding anniversary.

He was born February 23, 1915, the youngest child of the late Levi Berdine Wade and Julia Anne Cox Wade Agnew. He was a long time member of Painters' Union Local in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by: his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Harriet Gravely Wade, Salem; daughter Gloria Wells, and granddaughter Kelly Wells, Sterling, Virginia; grandson, Michael Wells and wife Joy Wells, Greenwich, Connecticut; and great grandson Bradley Wells, Sterling. He is further survived by: sisters, Mae Wade Dickerson, Roanoke, and Winnie Wade Turner, Roanoke. He was preceded in death by son-in-law Raymond Wells; brothers, Kerry Wade and Verman Wade; sisters, Ima W. Wade and Reva W. Williams. Funeral services was held at Lotz Funeral Chapel, Salem on Saturday, September 11 with interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
