Sylvia Saffell, 59, a warehouse clerk in grocery supplies, died Dec. 27, 1982. Mrs. Saffell, of Phoenix, was born in Salina, Kansas, and moved to Arizona 42 years ago. St. CLAIR, John R.

John R. St. Clair, 72, a printer and bookbinder, died Nov. 18, 1982, at Boswell Memorial Hospital, Sun City. Mr. St. Clair moved to Arizona in 1910 from Kansas and settled in Benson. He is survived by his children, Mayr {sic} Benson, Virgie Waller, Leslie and William St. Clair; two sisters, a brother, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Sacaton-- Matilda Saiza, 47, a native and resident of Sacaton, died Jan. 27, 1982, in Desert Samaritan Hospital. SALAMONE, Matilda

Sun City -- Matilda Salamone, 82, of Sun City, died Nov. 22, 1982, at Boswell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Salamone was born in Palermo, Sicily, and moved to Sun City in 1978 from Simi Valley, California. SALAZAR, Aurelio

Mass for Aurelio P. Salazar, 45, who died Dec. 24, 1982, at John C. Lincoln Hospital, will be today at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 5614 W. Orangewood, Glendale. Mr. Salazar, a farm laborer, was born in Weslaco, Texas, and moved to Arizona from Ontario, Oregon, two months ago. Scottsdale -- Samuel R. Salzer, 69, a retired U. S. Post Office clerk, died Oct. 27, 1982, at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Mr. Salzer, a resident of the Valley for 36 years, moved to Scottsdale from his native Cleveland. He performed in the Phoenix Little Theater. SAMOSKY, Johanna

Youngtown -- Johanna Samosky, 83, former co-owner of the Fred Samosky Bakery and a beauty shop in Cleveland, Ohio, died Dec. 19, 1982, in Beverly Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Samosky was born in Romania and moved to Arizona three years ago from Cleveland. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Youngtown Community Church. She is survived by her daughters, Emily Blaszak, Helen Wood, and Esther Ludwin; sons, Donald and Eugene; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Scottsdale -- Dr. Roy B. Sampson, Jr., 63, a member of the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital medical staff, died Dec. 23, 1982, at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Dr. Sampson was born in Briar County, West Virginia, and moved to Arizona in 1961. He was a graduate of Marshall College in Virginia and had attended the University of Virginia at Richmond Medical School. He was a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, El Zaribah Shrine, the Order of Eastern Star, Royal Arch, Hirams Club, and a member of the American Medical Association Virginia Medical School. He was also a member of the Maricopa County Medical Society and the Arizona State Medical Society and had been secretary and treasurer of the Roadrunners Physicians Club for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Shauna and Louise Sampson, Mrs. Gerald (Susan) Kirschbaum of Peoria, IL, Mrs. Rodney (Elizabeth) Skarzinski of Charleston, WV, Mrs. Albert (Esther) Brown of Purcellville, WV, and Mrs. Kevin (Marjorie) McGuire of Leesburg, VA; two sisters, Dorothy Morgan, Frederick, MD, and Virginia Echols, Fredericksburg, VA and nine grandchildren. SANDBLOM, Rudolph "Sandy" E.

Rudolph "Sandy" E. Sandblom, 85, who retired as business manager in Minneapolis of General Motors Oldsmobile Division after 40 years, died Dec. 15, 1982, at Boswell Hospital. He was born in Iowa and moved to Phoenix 12 years ago from Minneapolis. He was a 50-year member of the Masons and was a member of the Shrine. Peoria -- Carol O. Sandell, 99, a cigar maker before retiring in 1952, died Nov. 29, 1982. He was born in Carver, Minnesota, and moved to Arizona 30 years ago. SANDERS, Brigham Jackson

Maynard D. Sanders, 72, was born in Gallatin, Missouri, and died Wed., Oct. 13, 1982, in a Valley hospital. Samuel Shapiro, 80, a 44-year Phoenix resident who was the original owner and developer of the Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel, died Nov. 28, 1982 at South Hampton Hospital while vacationing on Long Island, N.Y. He was a native of Russia. He was president of Southwestern Alloys of Tucson. He founded National Metals Co. in 1938 with a $240 investment and turned it into a multimillion dollar, international firm with office in Phoenix and Tucson. Active in several Jewish organizations, Mr. Shapiro was a former board member of Temple Beth Israel and former chairman of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix. SHELLEY, Del

Del Shelley, 68, who was the audiovisual coordinator for Phoenix Elementary School District 1 for 33 years until retiring in 1978, died Jan. 3, 1982, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Shelley, 226 W. Lawrence, taught sixth grade in Mesa Public Schools from 1946 to 1961 and was supervisor of audiovisual instruction in the Mesa schools from 1941 to 1944. He also taught extension and summer audiovisual courses for the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University. He was brought to Arizona 65 years ago from his native Iowa. He received his bachelor's degree from what is now ASU in 1940 and his master's from ASU in 1950. He had been a supervisor and salesman in the audiovisual department of Peterson, Brooke, Steiner & Wist Supply Co. from 1944 to 1945. Mr. Shelley was a member of the First Church of Religious Science in Phoenix since 1965. He was president of the church's board of trustees from 1978 to 1981 and served as chairman of its building committee from 1970 to 1974. Sun City -- Clarence "Larry" Simpson, 78, died Nov. 14, 1982, at Boswell Memorial Hospital. The Des Moines, Iowa, native came to Arizona six years ago from Louisiana. He was a graduate of Drake University and was self-employed as an oil explorer for 30 years until retiring in 1972. Survivors include two sisters and a brother. Elmo Sipe, 73, who had worked in the maintenance department in Glendale Union High School, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1982, in a Valley hospital. Services for Sipe, a Glendale resident, were in Chapel of the Chimes. He moved to Arizona 25 years ago from his native Oklahoma.
