VALDEZ, Josefita
VALDEZ, Jose

Mass for Josefita Valdez, 96, and her son, Jose, 68, who came to Phoenix from their native Mexico in the early 1920s, was at Holy Family Church, 6802 S. 24th St. Mrs. Valdez died Feb. 2, 1982, in a Valley hospital. Mr. Valdez, a retired meatpacker, died Feb. 3, 1982, in his home at 518 W. Cocopah. Mrs. Valdez, 1537 W. Tamarisk, is survived by children, Juanita Arroyo, Frank Andres; 19 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Valdez is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Barbara Peralez, Stella Canty, Alicia Avila, Mollie, Abel, Velia, Delia, Armando and Joe; a sister and two brothers; 31 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Botimer Mortuary made arrangements. The AZ Republic Feb. 6, 1982.

VALDEZ, Robert

Robert Valdez, 29, a Chandler resident, was a native of Phoenix and a member of the Yaqui Temple in Guadalupe. He died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1982, in Laveen. Survivors include a daughter, Anita; son, Bobby; mother, Juna Montoya Valdez; three sisters; three brothers. The Phoenix Gazette 10/12/1982.

VALENCIA, Maximo G.

Chandler -- Maximo G. Valencia, 80, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Arizona, died Dec. 1, 1982, at his home. He was born in TUbac and lived in Chandler 43 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include his sons, Jose, Carlos, Maximo, Jr., and Robert; daughters, Anita Puerta, Eva Arias, Frances Arballo, Elvira Martinez, Elena Ortiz, and Erminia and Rosa Valencia; 32 grandchildren. 12/3/1982.

VALENZUELA, John

John H. Valenzuela, 22, of 1752 W. Hidalgo, who worked for the Garrett Turbine Corporation, died December 31, 1981, at 3429 E. Van Buren. Mr. Valenzuela, who was born in Phoenix, is survived by his parents, John and Esther Valenzuela; four brothers and three sisters. Rosary was at St. Catherine's of Sienna, 6401 S. Central. VANCE, Lily A.

Tempe -- Lily A. Vance, 69, of Tempe, died Oct. 30, 1982, at John C. Lincoln Hospital. Mrs. Vance was born in Durango, Colorado, and moved to Arizona from California 24 years ago. She is survived by her husband, Leonard C.; son, Philip; stepson, Dewey; stepmother, Myrtle Strom; and two sisters. Services were at Carr Memorial Chapel, 26 E. Fifth St., Tempe. VAN DYKE, Edward

Scottsdale -- Edward Van Dyke, 69, a retired switchman with Southern Pacific Railroad, died Dec. 26, 1982, in Scottsdale. Mr. Van Dyke was born in Chicago and moved to Phoenix 38 years ago. He was a member of Phoenix Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Lois, Carol and Sharon; son, Don; a sister, 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services were Wednesday, December 29, 1982, at Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Phoenix Christian Grade School or the Cancer Society. VANN, Lloyd Elton

Lloyd Elton Vann, 64, a supervisor with Borden Milk Co., died Nov. 24, 1982. He was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and moved to Arizona in 1937. Survived by his wife, Demetra; daughter, Katherine Carr; six sisters; a brother; and three grandchildren. Services were at First Institutional Baptist Church, 1141 E. Jefferson. 12/4/1982.

Van LENTEN, Walter J.

Sun City West -- Walter J. Van Lenten, 74, former executive vice president of Union Trust Company of Connecticut, died Nov. 24, 1982, in Phoenix. Mr. Van Lenten was born in Patterson, N.J., and moved to Arizona three years ago from San Diego. He was past president of a Danbury, Connecticut, hospital, past president of Danbury Rotary Club, a member of the Sun City West Lawn Bowling Club and was a graduate of the American Institute of Bankingin New York, N.Y. He had attended the Church of the Palms. He is survived by his wife, Agnes; daughter, Anne Spooner; son, Thomas; a brother; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were at Lundberg's Golden Door Chapel. 11/26/1982.

VASQUEZ, Jesus C.

Jesus C. Vasquez, 80, a Chandler farmer since 1927, died Dec. 8, 1982, at Chandler Community Hospital. He was born in Mexico and was brought to Arizona as an infant. He is survived by his wife, Maria L.; daughters, Rosa Chaira, Queta Burciaga, Margie Sida, Minnie Andrade, Susan and Angie Vasquez; sons, ANtonio and Paulino; 30 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mass was at St. Mary's Catholic Church. 12/9/1982.

VAUGHN, Clara

Services for Clara Vaughn, 101, a homemaker who was active in her husband's business, were Tuesday in Chapel of Memories, A. L. Moore & Sons, 333 W. Adams. Mrs. Vaughn, 1558 E. Northern, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and came to Arizona 81 years ago. She died Wednesday, September 29, 1982, in a Valley care center. Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara V. Long and Josephine Wilkinson; four sons, Reese, Jr., Sam, the Rev. John and Vernon; and two sisters. The Arizona Republic Saturday, Oct. 2, 1982.

VEST, Gary

Scottsdale -- Gary Vest, 21, of Scottsdale, died Dec. 17, 1982, at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Mr. Vest was born in Phoenix and worked as a farm laborer. He is survived by his daughter, Marie Ann; son, Odell J.; mother, Jane Vest; three sisters and three brothers. Wake was at the Lehi Indian Holiness' Church, Salt River Indian Reservation. Memorial services were also at the church. Botimer Vamily Mortuary made arrangements. 12/22/1982.
