SAND, Albert

Albert Sand, 52, Phoenix winter visitor and former resident, died yesterday, (3 Jan 1960) in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Sand, who for the past ten years had lived in Beatrice, Nebraska, was a Phoenix resident prior to 1951. His Phoenix vacation address was 1307 E. Colter. In Beatrice, he was a retailer for the Beatrice Recreation Co., a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion. He was a World War II veteran. Surviving are his wife, Minnie, of Beatrice who accompanied him to Phoenix; his mother, Mrs. Pearl Sand, Barnston, Nebraska; two daughters, Mrs. Marcia J. Reed, Phoenix, and Mrs. Dorothy Ann Staehs, Sacramento, California; two sons, Kenneth W. of Barnston and Gerald A. of Topeka, Kansas; a brother and a sister, both out of state and nine grandchildren. Mesa -- Funeral services for Worthy D. Sandy, 71, visitor here the past seven winters who died yesterday in Mesa General Hospital, were in Dillon, Montana. Born in Dayton, Virginia, Mr. Sandy was a retired cattle rancher from Twin Bridges, Montana. He is survived by his wife, Ella M. M. L. Gibbons Mortuary. The AZ Republic 26 January 1960

SCHAFFER, Opal Z.

Services for Mrs. Opal Z. Schaffer, 89, were conducted by Dr. William Boice in the Chapel in the Garden, Mercer Mortuary. Mrs. Schaffer died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1960, in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Zahn of Scottsdale. Born in Missouri, she came to Arizona 38 years ago. Besides the daughter, she is survived by a son, Alvin B. Schaffer, Scottsdale, and a sister, Mrs. Irene Buckles, Excelsior Springs, Missouri. AZ Republic 13 January 1960.

SCHAIER, Terry

Funeral services for Terry Schaier, 40, who died Thursday in Wickenburg, will be conducted tomorrow at Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas. Rabbi Milton Shulman will officiate. Burial in Green Acres Memorial Garden, Scottsdale. Mr. Schaier was born in New York City and came to Phoenix five years ago. He lived at 1531 E. Cambridge. He was a supervisor for an industrial uniform company. Survivors include his wife, Beverly, Phoenix; a daughter, Ann, Phoenix; a son, Arthur, serving in the navy; a brother, Randy, New York, and his father, Louis, New York. Services and burial for John J. Sharp, 55, who died yesterday (31 Jan 1960) in a Valley hotel, will be in Logansport, Indiana. Mr. Sharp, a native of Logansport, had been a Valley winter visitor for many years. Mr. Sharp was a veteran of World War I. He was an automobile dealer in Logansport, and a member of the Tipton Masonic Lodge No. 33, a member of the Knights Templar Shrine in Logansport, a member of the Rotary Club, and a member of American Legion Post No. 60. SHERRILL, Cyrus M.

Cyrus M. Sherrill, 75, taken ill in Phoenix while en route to California, died yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Sherrill was a resident of Waterloo, Iowa, where he was a purchasing agent for the Chamberlain Co. He had been employed there for 52 years. Mr. Sherrill and his wife were traveling to California to visit relatives when he became ill. Arrangements are being made by the Mercer Mortuary to send the body to Waterloo for services and burial. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alice Sherrill; a daughter, Mrs. Vincent Kremenak; Portales, N. M.; a foster daughter, Mrs. Maynard Dyer, Plattsville, New York, and two sisters and two brothers living out of state. Survived by wife, Alice, Waterloo, Iowa; daughter, Mrs. Vincent Kremenak, Portales, New Mexico; foster daughter, Mrs. Maynard Dyer, Plattsville, New York; sisters, Mrs. Art Stimson and Mrs. Albert Duncan, both of Flandreau, South Dakota; brothers, George and Elmer, both of Waterloo, Iowa; also six grandchildren. Graveside services were in Greenwood Memorial Park for Robert D. Sloan, 56, of Glendale. The Rev. O. R. Davison officiated. Mr. Sloan, a Glendale resident the past two years, died yesterday, Jan. 14, 1960, in a Phoenix hospital. A native of Champaign, Illinois, he formerly was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad. Mr. Sloan is survived by a son, Edward, Van Nuys, California, and two daughters, Rosalie, Kankakee, Ill., and Martha, Champaign. The AZ Republic January 15, 1960.
