SAUKCOUNTYHISTORY posted by Sauk County Historical Society on 01/21/00

Just a hypothetical question: If our Historical Society made Butterfield's 1880 Sauk County History, WITH AN INDEX, for the pre-sale price of $75.00 with shipping included, would you be interested? The book is 800 plus pages and currently sells elsewhere without an index for $85.00 plus shipping. If we get many interested, we will probably have the books available by this summer. We are just curious as to the market for the book before we invest. If you know anyone else who would be intereste, please ask them also. We would appreciate any feedback. Thank you, Kathy Waddell, Archivist

BUNNELL, DECKER, FOSNOT, JOHNSON, LOGAN, REDFIELD, SNELL, WALTER posted by Marla Schwiethale on 01/15/01

I would like to change Henry John Redfield to read: Henry Jefferson Redfield. He was the youngest child of Powers Washington Redfield & Mary Margaret (Fosnot) Redfield. All four of the Redfield children were grandchildren of John Henry Fosnot & Elizabeth (Decker) Fosnot. John Henry Fosnot & Elizabeth (Decker) Fosnot are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg, WI. The year of John's birth was 1813 on the tombstone & death was 1891/7/15, Sauk Co., WI. Records seem to indicate he was born in Northumberland Co., PA. Elizabeth (Decker) Fosnot was born 7/15/1814, Northumberland Co., PA. Her death was 9/22/1885, Sauk Co., WI. Buried near them is a son John H., Jr., 1842 - 1929, Co. A 19 Regt. (Civil War Vet.) & his wife, Sarah J. Fosnot 1852 - 1928, & another son, Joseph C. Fosnot, 1846 - 1925, Co. A. 19th Wis, Vol. Inf. & wife Mary J. Fosnot, 1842 - 1918 (or 1913). Buried near Mary J. Fosnot are perhaps her father, Maynard S. Johnson & perhaps her sister Be! lle (Johnson) Walter 1869 - 1961 & her husband, Winfield S. Walter, 1870 - 1939. Also near Joseph C. Fosnot & wife Mary J. Fosnot is the grave of Blanche, daughter of J.C. & Mary J. Fosnot - b. 8/18/1877, d. 12/03/1899. Once again, the children of Powers W. Redfield & Mary Margaret (Fosnot) Redfield were: Amy Antoinette (Redfield) Snell, b. 8/27/1858, Sauk Co., near Reedsburg, WI, d. 10/16/1935, Stafford Co., St. John, KS; Edith Evelyn (Redfield) Logan/Bunnell, b. 6/04/1860, Reedsburg, Sauk Co., WI, d. 6/04/1939, McHenry, Foster Co., ND; George W. Redfield, b. 3/1862, d.12/22/1946; Henry Jefferson Redfield, b. 8/1863, d. 2/19/1949. For more information please e-mail Marla Schwiethale at .

HINDES, HORNBECK posted by Rose Ketzenbarger on 01/24/01

I am searching for any information on John Hindes from Sauk County in 1860 through 1905. He had at least one son-William who was married to Mary Hornbeck. William and Mary had three children being Beecher, Elmer, and Jessie. Jessie died young and Beecher and Elmer came to Washington State in early 1900's. They lived in Westfield and grew hops as well as other crops. I have an old diary written in 1868 - the year of Beechers birth but can't find any birth records. Mary and Jessie died in the same year - 1892. Any help would be appreciated.
