Nancy Conner, 62, of Copper Hill, a loving wife, mother and grandmother,
passed away Thursday, September 4, 2003, in a Roanoke hospital. She was
preceded in death by her father, Alvin E. Conner; son, Stephen L. Shaver;
and a brother, Lester Conner. Surviving are her husband, Jerry L. Shaver of
Copper Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Teresa Shaver of
Shawsville; daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie S. and Robert Janney of Floyd;
daughter-in-law, Becky G. Shaver of Christiansburg; mother, Attaway V.
Conner of Floyd; grandchildren, Brittany and Brandon Shaver, Lindsey and
Austin Janney; step-grandchild, Candice Dickerson. Funeral services will be
2 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren
with Rev. Paris Bain officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Maberry
Funeral Home, Floyd. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society.

Elizabeth (Betty) Fine Sink, 81, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on
Monday, October 30, 2017. She was a long time member of Penn Forest
Christian Church and a past member of Mount Union Church of the Brethren.
Betty was a retired legal secretary and thoroughly enjoyed her job and
helping people.
She was born and raised in Bent Mountain, Virginia by the late Grady and
Evelyn Fine. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her
husband, Benton Sink.
She is survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold, Sr. and
Rebecca Sink, Edith and Jimmie Sowder; niece, Kym Sowder and her son,
Joshua Austin; nephew, Harold Sink, Jr.; cousins, Anita Blackburn and
husband, Dale, Ron Agee and wife, Violet, Christine Arthur, Ricky Craighead
and wife, Annette, Robert Craighead and wife, Lisa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at
Oakey’s South Chapel with Rev. Tim Thompson and Rev. Greg Fleshman
officiating. Interment will follow at Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will
receive friends on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8
p.m. at Oakey’s South Chapel. www.oakeys.com

Brethren Cemetery in Copper Hill, VA. Pam was the Executive Director of
Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Home. She was preceded in death her father,
Alvin Minor Stump and is survived by daughter, Katy Smith of Lawrenceville;
mother & step-father, Rebecca & Don Masse of Cornelia; step-mother,
Ruth Stump of VA; brother & sister-in-law, Michael & Diana Stump of
VA; sister, Vickie Harwood of Monroe; brother & sister-in-law, Jeff
& Jennifer Reynolds of Athens; brother, Samuel Stump of VA and a host
of nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
donations be made to the Glory City Church “Kenya” in memo section, P.O.

over 40 years for Rowe Furniture.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Matthew Sink and Clara Poff
Sink; her brother, James Benton Sink; sister-in-law, Betty Sink; and her
sister, Judy S. Flippen.
Those left to cherish her sweet memories are her husband, Jimmie Lee Sowder
and their daughter, Kymberly Annette Sowder; her grandson, Joshua Ryan
Austin; her brother, Harold Sink Sr. (Becky); and a nephew, Harold Sink Jr.
(Mary).
A visitation for Edith will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January
9, 2025, at Oakey's South Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m.
on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Carl
Goodman officiating. Interment will follow at Copper Hill Cemetery.

heart complications, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday August 30,
2014. She was born in Floyd County, VA. on November 6, 1939 to Richard and
Ollie Mae Nichols. She was a homemaker, beautician, wife and mom. She is
preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Tommy, Carl, Marshal and
John, and two nephews. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law,
Douglas and Deanne Sowers, Stephen and Renee Sowers, grandchildren, Justin
Gable, Kaitlin Sowers, Hannah Sowers, D.W. Sowers, Jr., her former husband
of 44 years, sisters and brothers-in-law, Lena and Norman “Buck” Hoback,
Sue and Barry Smith, brothers and sisters-in law, Wesley and Marian
Nichols, Fred and Pat Nichols, sisters, Ina Morgan and Betty Martin,
brother, Raymond Nichols, uncle, Carl and Claudine Wimmer, aunt, Reba and
Warren Richards, and numerous nephews and nieces. After an extended stay in
nursing care facilities, the family would like to thank the staff of 3 East
at Richfield, along with Good Samaritan Hospice for a good job. Services
will be held at Oakey’s South Chapel at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday September 2,
2014. The Rev. Charles Stanley will officiate. Interment will follow at
Copper Hill Cemetery, Floyd County. The family will receive friends at
Oakey’s South Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Monday, September 1, 2014.

He was retired as a driver for Keal Drive Away and was a member of the
Teamsters Union. Mr. Stump enjoyed farming.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth (Becky) Hattan Stump; four
children, Michael Stump (Dianna) of Roanoke, Vickie Harwood of Monroe, Ga.,
Pam Smith of Bethlehem, Ga., and Samuel Stump of Copper Hill, Va.; three
brothers, Carl Stump (Gladys) of Roanoke, Va., Howard Stump (Rachel) of
Bent Mountain, Va., Guy Stump (Darlene) of Bent Mountain, Va.; three
sisters, Viva Bowles (Leo), Martha Brizendine, Joice Holt (Samuel), all of
Bent Mountain, Va.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchgildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. at 2 p.m.
on Sunday, January 18, 2015. The Rev. Greg Fleshman and the Rev. Gene
Craighead will officiate. Interment will follow in the Copper Hill
Cemetery, Floyd County. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to
4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015. Memorials may be

Deborah Lynn Stump, age 60 was born March 14, 1960 and passed away Monday,
June 29, 2020 in her home in Rocky Mount.
Deborah was preceded in death by her father, Newton Stump; sister,
Katherine Yopp; and son, Rudolph Stump.
Surviving are her daughter, Misty Trail (JB); mother, Norma Martin;
sisters, Charlotte Goodwin, Rebecca Sell; and brother, Michael Stump.
She was also survived by her special fur companion, Chaz Stump. Deborah was
loved by her many nieces and nephews.
She served nine years in the United States Air Force as Supply Commander.
Gravesides services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Copper Hill Church of
the Brethren Cemetery with Pastor Dan Johnson officiating.

 Sonja Leigh Stump, 63, of Bent Mountain, VA went to be with the Lord
on Monday, February 17, 2025, after a hard fought 15 year battle with
cancer. She was an active and faithful member of Mount Union Church of the
Brethren, where she played the piano since she was a teenager. She also
played the piano for the Happy Hearts Gospel Group. Sonja retired from the
Roanoke County School Board after 37 years. She volunteered with the Bent
Mountain Rescue Squad for 32 years, is a life member and held many positions.
She loved spending time with and spoiling her nieces, great nieces and
great nephews. She was a selfless and caring angel that will be greatly
missed.
Sonja
was preceded in death by her father, Howard Stump; paternal grandparents,
Rev. Cleophas and Junie Stump, maternal grandparents, Tillman and Lelia
Dalton.
She
is survived by her mother, Rachel Dalton Stump; brother, Mark Stump and his
wife, Karen; nieces, Mariah (Drew) Roberson, Danielle (Matt) Sink;
great-nephews, Trae and Titan Roberson; great-nieces, Tinsley and Teddie
Roberson; aunts, uncle and cousins.
The
family would like to thank Patti File, Heidi Locklin, Jimmy Baroch, the
staff of the Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for all
the love and support shown to the family.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Mount Union
Church of the Brethren with Pastor Greg Fleshman officiating. Interment
will follow at Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on
Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at

to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother,
Jesse Conner. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and
Paul White; her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Susan Thompson; her
daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Jay Windel; and her daughter and
son-in-law, Robin and William Walters. The grandchildren that will cherish
her memory are Erin Dickerson, Ashley (Chad) Bane, Sarah Thompson, Leah
Thompson, Jamie Windel, Kristie (Matthew) Neighbors, Joey (Magen) Windel,
Jenny Walters, Jared Walters and Jacob Walters; six greatgrandchildren,
Tatyana, Jonathan, Jasmine, William, Caleb and Luke; sister-in-law, Betty
Conner; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Howard and Christine Thompson,
Dalton and Ocie Thompson and Betty and Joe McCoy; special neighbors, Willie
and Nancy King; and honorary grandchildren, Stephanie Perdue and Bradley
King. A special thanks to the Adult Day Care Center of Roanoke Valley for
all the loving care that they provided to our mother. Flowers will be
appreciated, or please make donations to the League of Older Americans or
Mount Union Church of the Brethren. Services will be held 11 a.m. on
Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Mount Union Church of the Brethren on Bent

Walters, 87, of Bent Mountain, VA passed away on Tuesday, September 5,
2023. She was born on March 20, 1936 and raised in Copper Hill. Totsy was a
member of Mount Union Church of the Brethren. She was the Librarian at Bent
Mountain Public Library for 44 years and was a well-loved member of the
Bent Mountain Community. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved her family very
much.
Totsy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Walters; son, Kenneth
Walters; parents, Jack and Beulah Smith.
She is survived by her children, Donald Walters and his wife, Susan,
William Walters and his wife, Robin; eight grandchildren, Wynne (Lenny)
Phillips, Kia Walters, Brier Walters, Jennifer Lawhorn, Jared (Lauren)
Walters, Jacob (Hannah) Walters, Randy (Ashley) Walters, Kelli Dillon;
fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen "Tommy" Robertson,
Charles (Gracie) Smith, Brenda Reynolds, Steve Smith; numerous nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at
Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Greg Fleshman officiating. Interment will
follow at Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6
until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Oakey's South Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Union Church of the
Brethren.

 Posy Weddle, 72, of Copper Hill, Virginia, went peacefully to his
heavenly home on Saturday, February 8, 2025. He fought a hard battle with
cancer for two and a half years. Posy was preceded in death by his parents,
Virginia Davis Weddle and Levi Jesse Weddle; and his brothers, JC Weddle
and Leo Weddle.
Posy retired from Steel Dynamics/Roanoke Electric Steel after 47 years of
service proving his dedication and hard work ethic. He loved life and
people, always the more people around, the better! Posy never met a
stranger no matter where he would go. He was always ready for an adventure
from racing motorcycles, circle track racing at Franklin County Speedway,
and as owner of PW Longhorn Farm. Posy rode his longhorn steer in the Floyd
Christmas Parade. But his greatest passion was to build a farm where family
and friends could visit and enjoy time together. A dream he made a
reality-his happy place, the farm. He even provided the barn as a wedding
venue, excited to help a young couple get started on their journey
together. Posy was a big mentor and loved sharing his knowledge, especially
with his nephews. Whether it was nephews, nieces, or the kids in the
neighborhood, it brought Posy so much joy teaching them all the skills he
had learned. It was important to him to prepare the children for life ahead
and how to make good decisions along the way. Family meant everything to
him.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Rita Wimmer Weddle.
Family closest to him regardless of life's obstacles, his nephew, Michael
Krawchison and his wife, Ashley and their sons, Cason and Easton; nephew,
Calvin Weddle and his wife, Taylor; nephew, Levi Weddle; his sister, Ester
Marshall; niece, Wanda Howell; and in-laws, Deborah and Joe Krawchison.
Also surviving, his sister, Dreama, brother, Larry; and numerous nephews
and nieces.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 4:00
until 7:00 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. The Funeral Service will be
conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025 with Pastors Joe Cox,
Phillip Cox and John Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Copper
Hill Church of the Brethren cemetery.

Conner Bell White, 90, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday, August
21, 2019. She was born in Floyd County near Copper Hill on October 7, 1928.
Geneva was the daughter of the late Guy Banks Conner and Allie Holland
Conner. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Gerald
Bell; her second husband, Paul Robert White Sr.; her son, Gerald Michael
Bell; her daughter, Susan Bell Childress; her sister, Almeta Conner
Thompson; brother-in-law, F. Marvin Thompson; her brother, Jesse Woodrow
Conner; and two nephews, Jimmy Conner and Woodie Conner. Geneva is survived
by her son-in-law, Ray Childress; stepdaughter Carol Leland; stepson Paul
White Jr. (Judi); her granddaughters, July Renee Leonard and Jodi Layne
Bell; step grandchildren, Maddie and Zoe White, and Kylee Enens (Adrian);
grandson, Kollin Leland; great-grandchildren, Samantha Taylor, Kristen
Bell, Nicholas Andrew, Hailey Johnson, Genevieve Johnson, David Johnson,
Jacob Johnson and Kylee's daughter, Maya Rose; her sisters-in-law, Betty
Hale Conner and Pearly Bell Carr; and many nieces, nephews and cousins of
which she was close. Geneva has been a faithful member of the Church of the
Brethren since she was baptized in a creek in Floyd County at the age of
12. She and Roy raised their children in the Poages Mill Church of the
Brethren where they both served as life deacons and Geneva served on almost
every board in the church. She worked in Bible School and later with the
youth and after that taught an adult Sunday school class for many years.
Geneva was active in the District Women's Work, serving as their president
for two terms. She was active in the Church Women United (CWU) of the
Roanoke Valley and also served as their president for two terms. Geneva
treasured the Christian friends she made in CWU. She and her husband, Paul,
most recently were members of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Roanoke.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers that attended to Geneva
over the last few years at Brandon Oaks. We appreciate the loving care she
received from those who grew to know and love her which are too numerous to
mention. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August
24, 2019, at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Tim Harvey
officiating. Burial will follow in the Copper Hill Cemetery, Floyd County.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 23,

Basil L. Williams, 82, of Copper
Hill, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007. He was retired from Roanoke
Ready Mix, and was a U.S. Marine, First Division Veteran of World War II,
serving amphibious assaults Pellilou and Okinawa. Mr. Williams was a member
of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed NASCAR, Country Music,
and his many friends at Smiths Grocery in Copper Hill. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Dewey and Salome Williams, a loving big sister,
Cornelia Smith, and an infant brother, Glen Williams. He is survived by his
loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy M. Williams; his children, Sandra W.
Shumake and husband, Lynn, Baltimore, Md., Paul L. Williams and wife,
Susan, of North Carolina, Terry L. Williams and wife, Judy, Roanoke, Janean
Williams, Copper Hill; grandchildren, Greg Shumake and wife, Candi, Holly
Petrilli and husband, Joe, Heather Casey and husband, Tim, Isaac Williams
and wife, Kate, Nathan Williams, Karrie Beth Neary and husband, Mike, Aaron
Williams and wife, Jessica, Jonathan Shumake and wife, Kathleen, Dylan
Rosales, Gabriel Williams; eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters,
Reynold Williams, Dorothy Argabright, Claudine Wimmer, Freeda Wimmer,
Yvonne Smith, Wilson Williams; a dear brother-in-law, Carl Wimmer. Services
will be at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, 2 p.m. Thursday, December
27, 2007. The Rev. Maurice Wright will officiate. Interment will follow in
Copper Hill Cemetery. Military Honors by Floyd VFW Post 7854 and American
Legion #127. The family will receive friends at Oakeys South Chapel on
Brambleton Ave. from 2 to 4 and 6to 8 p.m. on Wednesday December 26, 2007.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Copper Hill

Dorothy M. Williams, 90, of
Roanoke, formerly of Copper Hill, Va., went to be with the Lord on
Thursday, December 6, 2018.
Dorothy was a dedicated nurse for 20 years at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Basil L. Williams.
Surviving are her children, Sandi and husband, Lynn Shumake, Paul and wife,
Carolyn Williams, Terry and wife, Judy Williams, Janean Williams; ten
grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at
Oakey’s South Chapel with Pastor Terry Mabrey officiating. Interment will
follow in Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Oakey’s South Chapel.

Wimmer, 91, of Copper Hill suddenly went to his Heavenly home on
Friday,
January 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Louise
Burnette Wimmer.
Colonel
served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. He loved being a
father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Colonel's greatest joy was his
grandson and his great-grandsons. He was always giving with an open heart,
never expecting anything in return. Colonel taught his family the value of
living a Christian based life. A life that meant working together on the
farm and how to stay together through the good and bad times. Colonel loved
working in the hay field. At age 91, he was still raking hay for others, an
inspiration to all who knew him. You could always find him wearing a smile,
never complaining.
He
is survived by his children, Rita and Posy Weddle and Deborah and Joe
Krawchison; his grandson, Michael and Ashley Krawchison; his
great-grandsons, Cason and Easton Krawchison; in-laws, Hilda and Noel
Underwood and Geraldine and Riley Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Oakey's
South Chapel with Pastor Greg Fleshman officiating. The family will receive
guests one hour prior to the service. Burial will following at Copper Hill
Cemetery.

Irvin M., 77, of Callaway, died Wednesday June 13, 2001. His parents, Jesse
James and Lucy Green Yopp, a daughter, Katherine Diane Johnson and a
brother, Cecil Yopp, preceded him in death. Mr. Yopp retired from the
Virginia Department of Transportation with 36 years of service. Surviving
are his wife, Katherine Webb Yopp of the home; his children, Annie Belle
and Roger Bradford, Luke and Kathy Yopp and Alice Jo Yopp; two grandsons,
Jason Bradford and J. L. and Rebecca Yopp; one great-grandson, Allen Lee
Yopp; one brother, Tommy Yopp of Elliston; one sister and brother-in-law,
Stella and Sam Clark of Martinsville. Funeral services will be conducted 1
p.m. Saturday in Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Alfred Majors officiating.
Interment will follow in Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral
Service, S. Main St., Rocky Mount.

residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Yopp and a
daughter, Katherine Diane Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Alice
(Jo) Yopp, Annie Belle Yopp Bradford, Callaway; very special friend, Janet
Lee, of the home; her son and daughter-in-law, Jessie Luke and Katherine
Stump Yopp, Callaway; special friends, Dora Dean McGuire and Randy Angel;
her grandsons, Jessie Luke Yopp (J.L.) and wife, Rebecca, Jason Daniel
Bradford, Rocky Mount; one great-grandson, Allen Lee Yopp; sister and
brother-in-law, Virginia and Frank Akers, Salem; several nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 1
p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Carla Diane Stanley officiating. Interment will
follow in the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The family will
receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 S.
Main Street, Rocky Mount.
