(VA) - Monday, September 21, 2009 Roy Lee Hale Jr., 88, of Stuart, died Sept. 17, 2009. He was born in Floyd County on Jan. 2, 1921, to Roy L. and Bessie
Thomas Hale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
sister, Barbara Whitesell Anderson. He served in the Marine Corps in both World War II and the Korean
conflict, retiring as a gunnery sergeant. He then co-owned a dairy farm in
Riner and a tobacco farm in Floyd County. Hale also had been a golf pro in California and at Great Oaks Country
Club in Floyd. Surviving are his wife, Ann West Hale of the home; a daughter, Valerie
C. Hale of Belton, S.C.; one grandson; one granddaughter; a sister, Ann Davis
Whitesell of Roanoke; a niece; and two stepsons, Matt Corbett of Sunbury,
Pa., and Chris Corbett of Stuart. There will be no formal memorial service. Memorials donations may be made to the Patrick Animal Welfare Society
