19-Funeral services for Joseph W. Smith, 75, of Fayetteville, who died
Wednesday as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage, will be conducted at 2 pm.
Friday from the Pleasant View Brethren Church. He was Born in Floyd
County, Virginia, in 1878, was a retired coal miner and a member of local
union 5875. Survivors include: three
brothers, G. T. of Route 1, Fayetteville, Don H., of Route 1, Princeton, and
Eli Lee, of Alderson; Three sisters, Mrs. Nancy McNeil of Prosperity, Miss
Elizabeth Smith of Fayetteville, and Mrs. Laura Stull of Fayetteville; one
daughter, Mrs. Bessie Adkins of Hopewell, Va; six
sons, R.V., William, Charles, and Walter, all of Fayetteville, Route 1.
Arnold, of Kaymoor, and Homer, of Quinwood; 70
grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. The body will be removed
from the Dodd-Payne Mortuary to the home of a son,m
William Smith at 2 p.m. Thursday, and will be removed to the church prior to
the funeral hour. Burial will be made in

United States Army during World War II and later retired from Appalachian
Power Company after many years of service. He was also a member of Little
Hope Primitive Baptist Church. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Bob
and Cassie Smith and two brothers, Wilbert and Sherman Smith. Sam is survived
by his wife, Rushie Violet Wilson Smith; his
children, Rebecca Smith Sink and husband, Gordon Harold Sink; and Freda Smith
Carper; his grandson, Gordon Harold Sink, Jr.; four brothers, Robert Smith,
R.B. Smith, Herbert Smith and Ray Smith; two sisters, Myrtle Curran and Ocie
Smith, both of Florida. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday,
January 30, 2006 at Oakey?s South Chapel with Elder

2019 On Friday, April 5, 2019, Shirley "R.B." Smith, 91, of Copper
Hill, Va., passed on to be with his eternal Saviour
and the love of his life, wife, Helen Sue Manning Smith, after a brief battle
with cancer. He was born in Floyd County, Va., and was predeceased by his
parents, "Bob" and Cassie Smith. R.B. was also predeceased by four
brothers. Those surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Serena
Jacobs(Donald) of Copper Hill and LuAnn (Gary) Smith of Salem; brothers,
Herbert (Alice) Smith of Roanoke, and Ray (Diann) Smith of Copper Hill;
sisters, Myrtle Curran of Florida and Ocie Smith of Colorado; step grandsons,
Devin and Derek (Angela) Jacobs; and step great-granddaughter, Journee
Jacobs. R.B. owned his own business, Edgewood Cabinets, and hand crafted many
beautiful cabinets for so many people in Floyd and around surrounding areas.
He could always be found at the Floyd County Arts and Crafts Festival with
Helen Sue and her crafts displaying his wooden toys, birdhouses, and boxes.
R.B. always had a sharp wit about him, even through
his last days. Many thanks to all who kept R.B in your thoughts and prayers.
Also, to Lewis Gale Hospital, Friendship South, Heartland Hospice and special
niece, Nancy Vest, for her help during his last days at home. Funeral
services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Oakey's
South Chapel with Pastors Paris Bain and Melton Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends

February 21, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Charles J., and Beulah S.
Smith and is also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Louise (Tootsie)
Smith; nieces, Barbara Gay Spangler and Andrea Christine Smith;
brothers-in-law, Calvin Lee Robertson and Bobby Donald Walters. Mrs. Spangler
was a member of Poages Mill Church of the Brethren
and retired from Shenandoah Life after 42 years and 8 months of service. She
is survived by her husband of 47 years, Shelborn
Landon (S.L.) Spangler; four sisters, Helen (Tommy) Roberson, Floyd, Margaret
(Totsy) Walters, Bent Mountain, Brenda Reynolds and
husband, Jack, and Patricia (Pat) Altis and
husband, Wayne, Copper Hill; three brothers, Charles Smith and wife, Gracie,
Copper Hill, Douglas (Doug) Smith and wife, Christine (Chris), Roanoke,
Robert Steven (Steve) Smith, Copper Hill; sister-in-law, Juanita Spangler
Overton, Roanoke; uncle and aunt, Tom and Juanita Sink, Santa Maria, Calif.;
14 nephews and 12 nieces. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m.
Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Pete Bain,
the Rev. Jimmy Robinson and the Rev. Charlie Hoffler
officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family
