Sun City -- Services for Martin Cairns, 81, a retired steelworker who came here in 1972 from Oak Park, Illinois, and died Sept. 29, 1980, in Boswell Hospital, will be today in Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave. Mr. Cairns, 11013 Thunderbird Blvd., was a member of the First Christian Church here and Masonic Lodge 211. He is survived by his wife, Jessie, and sons, Dr. Richard, David and Scott, all of Glendale. Interment Sunland Memorial Park. October 2, 1980.

CALCA, Jose B.

Jose B. Calca, 77, who was born in Portugal, died Oct. 11, 1980, in Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center. Mr. Calca was a factory worker for an electronics firm before coming to Arizona in 1974 from Connecticut. Wife, Maria; sons, Joseph and Lucien; two brothers; eight grandchildren. Services were in Waterbury, Connecticut. The Arizona Republic Monday, Oct. 13, 1980.

CAMPBELL, William Joseph

Maricopa -- William J. Campbell, 62, who had been a molder for Roto-Way Casting & Mfg. Co. in Tempe, died Oct. 5, 1980, in Hoemako Hospital at Casa Grande. He was an elder in the Maricopa Seventh-day Adventist Church. Surviving are his wife, wife Betty; children, Betty Jane Reno, William, Jr., Samuel, Darry and Daniel; a brother; 15 grandchildren. Interment East Resthaven. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1980.

CANTER, Alfred

Glendale -- Alfred Canter, 72, who came to Phoenix 32 years ago from Plainfield, NJ, died Oct. 4, 1980, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Canter has been a trust officer 17 years for Transamerica Title Insurance Co. He was an attorney and member of Elks Lodge 335 and Paradise Civitan Club. Surviving are his wife, Lee; sons, Thomas and Robert; a sister, Leah Abrams, Plainfield, NJ; and four grandchildren. 7 Oct 1980

Perry L. Carmean, 87, who came to Arizona in 1922 from Ohio and founded the community 24 miles west of Phoenix which was named Perryville for him, died Jan. 28, 1980, in a Phoenix hospital. Mr. Carmean had been a business man and motel owner in Perryville. Daughter, Perralee Strand; a granddaughter; a brother and two sisters. Published Wednesday, 1/30/1980.

CARNAHAN, May

May Carnahan, 81, who was a member of the Valley Bible Church, and the Eastern Star for 50 years, died March 11, 1980, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mrs. Carnahan, 1928 E. Thomas, moved here 30 years ago from Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club of Phoenix. She is survived by children, Dorothy Johnson, Helen Croyle and William; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call today at Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas. CARSON, Edgar L.

Graveside services for Edgar L. Carson, 79, a carpenter who came to Phoenix in 1944 from Texas and retired in 1962, were in Greenwood Memorial Park, 2300 W. Van Buren. Mr. Carson, 4950 W. Bethany Home, died March 11, 1980, in Phoenix Baptist Hospital. He had worked for Valley construction companies and was a member of the Carpenters Union. Surviving are his wife, Gladys M.; children, Betty L. Shinn, Ankeny, Iowa; and Jimmy D. Carson, Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Opal Adams, Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Coolidge -- Glenn M. Carter, 71, an Oklahoma native, died March 13, 1980, at his home. Mr. Carter moved to Coolidge in 1943. He was a retired well driller. Wife, Mary Lou; two daughters, Rita Kenison and Virginia Bias; two sons, Glenn and Claude; a brother; two sisters and nine grandchildren. Services were at the Community Presbyterian Church. 3/15/1980.

CASE, Marion James

Scottsdale -- Marion James Case, 67, who was a warehouse manager, died Oct. 5, 1980, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Case, 2809 N. 70th St., was born in Galena, Kansas. He was a World War II Army veteran and came here in 1954 from California. He is survived by a son, James R. of Flagstaff; brother, Glenn, sisters Olive Carraro and Freida Dulin; seven grandchildren; a brother and two sisters. CASTRO, Ruben V., Jr.

Ruben V. Castro, Jr., 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Castro, was killed in a pedestrian-bus accident Sept 29, 1980. He is survived by a sister, a brother, and grandparents. The Arizona Republic Thursday, October 2, 1980.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; children, Helen Marx of Biloxi, MS, and Ralph E. of York, PA; seven grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Clara Conright of Phx, and three out of state. CELAYA, Ramon O.

Tempe -- Ramon O. Celaya, 73, who was born in Santa Rita and lived in Arizona all his life, died Oct. 12, 1980. He had been a butcher for Tempe Meat Packing Co. 36 years and was a World War II Army veteran. Surviving are his children, Catherine Vieira, Joseph, Daniel, Richard and Raymond; three sisters and a brother; 18 grandchildren. Mass was in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 S. Reba F. Chafin, 52, died Jan. 21, 1980. She moved here three years ago from Michigan and was employed by Chambers Belt Co. Daughters, Rhonda Johnson and Pamela Moore; four grandchildren; four sisters and four brothers survive.. 24 January 1980.


CHAGNON, Charles S.

Charles S. Chagnon, 84, died Oct. 6, 1980, in Phoenix Veterans Hospital. He was a World War I Army veteran who came to Phoenix in 1978 from Massachusetts. Survived by children, Murriel Bowen and Charles A.; seven grandchildren. Graveside services were in Arizona Veterans Cemetery. 8 Oct 1980.

CHAKURMANIAN, George

Scottsdale -- George Chakurmanian, 74, a self-employed tailor who came here in 1978 from Massachusetts, died Oct. 9, 1980, in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Armenia and served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Survived by wife, Rose and daughter, Kathy. Oct. 11, 1980.

Louis Harold Charboneau, 81, who retired as superintendnet of a machine tool company in Rockford, IL, died Oct. 11, 1980, in Mesa CHristian Nursing Home. Mr. Charboneau came here 17 years ago. Chester A. "Chet" Church, 67, former chief of air traffic control operations at Sky Harbor International Airport, died Oct. 6, 1980, in his home, Pfafftown, N.C. Mr. Church retired in 1973 aftert 34 years in the Civil Service and moved from Scottsdale in April 1980. He received the Federal Aviation Administration's distinguished career service award and the FAA director's award. Survivors include his wife, Martha; daughter, Linda Phillips; and two grandsons. Mass was Sunday in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Winston Salem, N. C. The Arizona Republic Thursday, October 9, 1980.

Marion F. Clarke, 80, who retired in 1965 as a supervisor after 43 years with the U. S. Post Office in Indianapolis, died March 11, 1980. Mr. Clarke was a member of El Zaribah Shrine and Waymark Gardens Retirement Center. He was an elder in Phoenix Central Christian Church and while in Indianapolis sang in the Scottish Rite Chorus. Wife, Ruth; daughter, Mrs. Richard Long; a brother; two granddaughters and a great-grandson. 3/15/1980.

Scottsdale -- Harry C. Cliff, 69, who retired as an engineer after 43 years with Mountain Bell, died Oct. 3, 1980. He was born in Denver and was a member of the Masons in Colorado. He was a World War II Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Caryl Puchta, Joan Lawson, and Janet Bold; and 11 grandchildren. Services were in Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N.
