Mesa -- Harriet I. McCarter, 74, who retired in 1970 from the University of Arizona Experimental Farm, died Oct. 10, 1980. In 1978, Mrs. McCarter published the book, Doctor on Horseback, written by her late father, Dr. Ralph Palmer. He was the government appointed physician in Roosevelt while Roosevelt Dam was being built. Mrs. McCarter was born in Roosevelt and brought to Mesa as an infant. She graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and studied at the Paris Music Conservatory in France. She was an organist at St. Mark's Episcopal Church and Gibbons-Bunker Mortuary for many years. She founded the Mesa Welcome Wagon service in 1948 and was a founder of the Mesa Museum Gild and Historical and Archeological Society. Survivors include her daughter, Jan Paulson; a sister; and three grandchildren. Monday, Oct. 13, 1980.

He was a native of Wathall, Mississippi, and graduated from Mississippi State University. He received his masters degree from Northern Arizona University. He was an Army paratrooper during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church. McKEMY, Marge

Marge McKemy, 77, who had been a secretary 26 years at Arizona State University before retiring in 1972, died March 11, 1980. Mrs. McKemy was administrative secretary 16 years for the late Clyde Smith who was athletic director. She also served many years as scholarship and financial secretary. She was a past president of the Arizona Federation of Business and Professional Women's CLub. Mrs. McKemy was a 35-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and had held state and national offices in the organization which is an international philanthropic project to aid the handicapped. She was a member of the Tempe Women's Club and came here from Cincinnati in 1939. Her late husband, Harvey McKemy, was superintendent of the Tempe Elementary School DIstrict 28 years. MEACHAM, Lucian, Jr.

Mesa -- Lucian Mormon Meacham, Jr., 82, a prominent civic and religious leader, educator and farmer in the Mesa, Chandler and Queen Creek areas, was born in Colonia Pacheco, Chihuahua, Mexico, and died Jan. 27, 1980, in his residence. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1919 (now Utah State University) and owned and operated a Chevrolet Dealership in Chandler in 1929 and was the Texaco gasoline distributor for the East Valley during World War II. He was a former president of the Mesa Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had also been a bishop. Miss Morris, 31 E. 14th Place, was injured in a fall at a weekend football game and died Sept. 30, 1980, in Mesa Lutheran Hospital. She was born in Safford. Murel Milo Myers, 79, died March 15, 1980, in Desert Haven Rest Home. Mr. Myers owned and operated Artistic Finishers with his late wife, Mary Kay, from 1950 to 1975 when he retired. His grandsons now operate the business. After he moved here in 1948 from Danville, IL, he was a furniture restorer for several years for Mehagian's Furniture Store.
