Prescott -- The body of John Francis Cain, 45, will be sent to Phoenix for services and burial. Mr. Cain died yesterday, 31 Dec 1959, while visiting friends here. Born in New York, he had lived in Arizona 13 years. His Phoenix home was at 3424 N. 51st St. A government accountant, at one time he was employed at Luke Air Force Base. Don Edward CAMPBELL, World War II veteran and resident of Arizona 22 years, died Thursday January 28, 1960, in the Phoenix Veterans Administration Hospital. He was 57. Mr. Campbell was a native of Randell County, Texas. He had been an accountant, both self-employed and for Luke Air Force Base. His home was at 340 W. Glendale Ave., Glendale. Survivors are two stepsons, Francis L. PATTERSON, Phoenix, and Kenneth W. PATTERSON, Fort Huachuca; two brothers and a sister, all out of state; and eight grandchildren. Glendale -- Mrs. Faith Carmen, 83, Arizona resident six years, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1960, in her home. A native of Christchurch, New Zealand, Mrs. Carmen spent much of her childhood in Arizona and Massachusetts. She was a member of the third graduating class of Flagstaff Teachers College. After her husband's death in 1914, she taught school in Santa Cruz County and spent many years teaching in the Peoria system. She was a Glendale resident 46 years. Mrs. Naomi S. Carpenter, Arizona resident for 40 years, died January 8, 1960, in her home at 4139 N. 21st St. Mrs. Carpenter, a native of Mills City, Iowa, came to Phoenix 30 years ago after residing 10 years in Morenci. She was associated for 25 years in the office machine and liquid gas business at 144 N. First St. with her husband. She retired in 1951. Surviving are her husband, F. T. Avondale -- Johnson (Uncle Jack) Cartmill, 92, died Tuesday, December 29, 1959, in a hospital here. His home was 256 S. Seventh St., Avondale. He had lived in Avondale since 1934. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he had worked in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before moving to Arizona. He was a watchmaker. Mr. Cartmill had represented the character of Billy Moore in the Billy Moore Days celebration held here annually. Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Cannon Mortuary here. Frank O. Chase, 76, retired assistant personnel Manager for Reynolds Metals Co., a native of Iowa, moved to Phoenix 37 years ago from Salem, S. D. CHESHIRE, Claude C.

Claude C. Cheshire, 71, widely known Flagstaff business man and former mayor of Nogales, died Friday night, January 29, 1960, while vacationing in Phoenix. He was 71. Mr. Cheshire suffered an apparent heart attack while dining with friends at a restaurant. He died 15 minutes later. Born in Oregon, Mr. Cheshire moved to Nogales and opened an automobile agency in 1924. He served as Nogales mayor from 1937 to 1939. Mr. Cheshire sold his agency to his brother, Roy, in 1940 and moved to Flagstaff. He operated an agency in Flagstaff and Williams until his death. He was active in civic affairs in both Nogales and Flagstaff. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret; two sons, Presley, of Yakima, Washington; and Charles D., Winslow; a daughter, Mrs. James GOLSARRY, Holbrook; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. CLARK, Dr. Curry Carroll

Douglas -- Funeral services for Dr. Curry Carroll Clark, 65, a Douglas dentist who died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1960, in Douglas Hospital, were at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Dr. Clark was born in Norris City, Illinois, and attended dental college in Portland, Oregon, after serving in World War I. He opened an office in Mesa in 1925, moving to Douglas two years later. He was a member of the American Legion and past president and charter member of the Douglas Lions Club, the Elks Lodge, and the Masonic Lodge in Seattle, Washington. At the time of his death he was employed at Convair Aircraft in San Diego. He served in the air force from 1954 to 1957. Douglas -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Cole, 70, were at the Brown-Page Chapel. Cremation in Phoenix. Mrs. Cole died in Douglas Hospital, Saturday, Jan. 16, 1960. Born in Los Angeles, she came to Douglas in 1912. She was the widow of Carl H. Cole, Sr., former superintendent of the Copper Queen smelter, who died in 1944. Mrs. Cole was head of the Red Cross in Douglas during World War II and had been active in the Little Theater here. She was also a playwright and author of many poems. She had recently returned from a visit to a daughter in Athens, Greece. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Musser, Athens, Greece, and Mrs. Elizabeth Sloan, Pasadena, Calif.; a son, Carl, Jr., Phoenix, and four grandchildren. 19 Jan 1960.

Breezy Cox, of Rodeo Fame, Dies in Tucson

Buckeye -- Funeral services for Lionel Bert Cox, 59, one-time world's champion all-around rodeo cowboy, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Buckeye Funeral Home. The Rev. Leroy Crosley will officiate. Burial will be in Louis B. Hazelton Cemetery. Mr. Cox, who performed in rodeos throughout the country for many years, died of a heart attack in Tucson Thursday, January 21, 1960. He was known on the rodeo circuit as "Breezy Cox". Born in Sonora, Texas, Mr. Cox came to Arizona in 1915. He had been living in Pinetop the past several years and before that had lived in Buckeye and Solomon. After suffering a broken leg in a rodeo four years ago, he retired from rodeo competition and operated a string of race horses. He is survived by his wife, Jessie; a son, John W., Phoenix; three sisters, Mrs. Mona Burns, Yarnell; Mrs. Cora Fribley, Tularosa, N.M.; and Mrs. Zora Arnold, Buckeye; three brothers, Otho, Duncan, and Lendel and G. Memorial services for Hugh M. Craig, 69, Phoenix business man who died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1960, in a La Jolla, Calif., hospital, were in Memory Chapel, A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary. Mr. Craig, an automotive equipment broker for Phoenix and San Diego, had resided in Phoenix since 1929. He came here from Indianapolis. His address here was 330 W. Medlock. CREMEENS, Barbara

Jury Awards Man $11,350.00
A federal jury awarded a Mesa man $11,350 in the death of his wife in a two-car crash in New Mexico, August 3, 1957. The wife of a man in the other car involved also died in the accident. The jury verdict was given to Miles Turner, 37, of Mesa, represented by Attorney Robert R. Steward. His wife, Betty, 36, died in the smash-up on U. S. 60 west of Pietown, N. M. Turner is a carpenter-homebuilder. Also killed in the collision was Barbara Cremeens, 31, San Diego. Her husband, James L. Cremeens, 39, a convair Aircraft Co. tool planner brought suit against Turner seeking $59,500 for the death of his wife and injuries to himself and children, 10, 7, and 5. Turner filed a counterclaim for $61,300. In February, another federal jury heard the suit. Turner's insurance company settled with Cremeens, reportedly paying him $7,500 while the jury was out. The jurors could not agree on a verdict. In the settlement, Turner was left free to seek damages and did so. AZ Republic January 9, 1960.
