Mesa -- William Taylor Baker, 52, who was born in Glens Fork, Kentucky, and came to Arizona from Michigan 35 years ago, died Oct. 12, 1980. He was owner of the Associated Architects firm, was a member of Baseline Rotary Club and active in United Fund and Young Mens Christian Association. Survived by wife, Shirley; children, Candice Lynn Van Sciver, Amy and William L.; mother, Pauline Baker; and five grandchildren. 10/15/1980

BALDWIN, Gene

Chandler -- Gene Baldwin, 73, a disabled World War II Army veteran, died March 12, 1980, in Chandler after living here two years. Mr. Baldwin retired from sales with Burns Sporting Goods Co. in Denver. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Masonic Shrine in Deadwood, S.D. His wife, Lillian A., survives. 3/15/1980.

BAMBERGER, Charles F.

Charles F. Bamberger, 53, who retired as a conductor after 18 years with Penn Central Railroad, died March 29, 1980. Mr. Bamberger was a native of Chicago and lived in Arizona 12 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Doris; a sister, Mary Pacanowski; and two brothers, George Bamberger, Chicago, IL, and John Bamberger, Schaumberg, IL. BARELA, Rafael P.

Safford -- Graveside services for Rafael P. Barela, 49, a laborer for Phelps Dodge Corp. who died Oct. 5, 1980, at his home here, were at the Clifton Cemetery. Mr. Barela, a Clifton native, recently moved to Safford. Survivors include his father, Felix; stepmother, Maria; and a sister. Caldwell Funeral Home of Clifton made arrangements. BARKER, Dr. George Thomas

Dr. George Thomas Barker, 35, of Cave Creek, a dentist, was found dead March 24, 1980, in a house at 1640 E. Thomas. Dr. Barker was brought to the Valley as an infant from Texas. He was a member of the Arizon Dental Society and his call letters as a Ham Radio Operator were K7SWX. Survivors include his daughter, Loraine Barker; parents, Dr. and Mrs. Clyde J. Barker, Jr; a sister, Sharon Anderson, and a brother, Clyde Barker, III; nephew, Dr. Robert Barker, Payson, AZ. Interment Greenwood. 3/26/1980.

BARNES, Mabel B.

Mabel B. Barnes, 80, a former restaurant owner who moved here 33 years ago from Oklahoma, died March 23, 1980, in her home. She was Baptist Church member. Surviving are her children, Frances Willis Decker and Louise Willis Pyle, both of Oregon, and Edgar O. and Jack A. Willis, Phoenix; a brother, David Brown McCarty, NY, NY; five grandchildren. BARNETT, Elbert Lee

Elbert Lee Barnett, 79, who came here 29 years ago from Kansas, died Oct. 12, 1980. He was a carpenter for John F. Long Homes, Inc., until retiring in 1966. BARNEY, W. M. "Mitch"

Safford -- W. M. "Mitch" Barney, 26, was killed in a motorcycle accident March 23, 1980. Mr. Barney was an all-state football player at Safford High School. He worke as a blocklayer. BARNSON, Roger J.

Las Vegas, NV -- Roger J. Barnson, 41, who played baseball for Arizona State University from 1959 to 1962, died March 14, 1980, in an auto accident near Tacna, 35 miles east of Yuma. He was the assistant athletic director at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for the past 10 years. Mr. Barnson is survived by his wife, Tina; children, Leigh and Roger, Jr.; mother, Mabel; and three brothers. 3/17/1980.

Roman G. Barreras, 20, died Jan. 27, 1980, of vehicle accident injuries at Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he was stationed in the Air Force. He attended Roosevelt Elementary and Phoenix Union High schools. Surviving are his parents, Rudy and Eleanor Barreras; two sisters; two brothers and two grandparents. Published 1/31/1980.

Pima -- Kenneth D. Barry, 37, died Oct. 4, 1980, in a helicopter accident at Silverton, CO. Mr. Barry was an Arkansas native and came to Morenci as a child and later lived in Pima. He was a drill foreman for the American Mines Corp. at Silverton. Survivors include his wife, Sharlotte; sons, Jimmy, Danny and Kenneth D.; a daughter, Kendra; his mother, Mrs. Bonnie Barry; a sister and a brother. Oct. 8, 1980.

BARTOW, Betty Lee

Scottsdale -- Betty Lee Bartow, 64, who had been a house mother at Cotty College in Nevada, Missouri, and came here in 1973 from Mission Village, Kansas, died Sept. 27, 1980, in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bartow, 6700 E. Thomas, was born in Denver. She is survived by her mother, Flossie Lee. Cremation was arranged at Messinger Mortuary. BAUBLITS, John Edmund

John Edmund Baublits, 67, who had retired in 1962 as office manager of Western Union in Phoenix, died March 15, 1980. Mr. Baublits came here 43 years ago from Colorado Springs, CO. He began his career with the Postal Telegraph Co. in Colorado which later merged with Western Union. He was a member of the Unity Church and the Mystic 13 of Elks Lodge 335. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; son, John, Jr.; two grandchildren and a brother. Interment Paradise Memorial Park, Scottsdale. 3/18/1980.

BAYLIS, Mary E.

Congress -- Guy E. Bearden, 71, a Texas native, moved to Congress in 1971 from North Las Vegas, Nevada. He died Jan. 21, 1980, at his home. He was a retired carpenter. Survivors include his Wife, Rosena; sons, Richard and Norman; daughter, Mildred Bartkus; a brother and two sisters. 24 January 1980.

BEATLEY, Louise Thomas

Scottsdale -- Louise Thomas Beatley, 54, a retired executive secretary with the Greyhound Corp., moved here in 1973 from California and died Jan. 20, 1980. Husband, James R.; a sister and two brothers. 24 January 1980.

BEATTY, Thomas Quentin

Mesa -- Thomas Quentin Beatty, 61, executive vice president of Arizona Cottong Growers died of a heart attack Jan.27, 1980, while attending the National Cotton Council's annual meeting in New Orleans. He was a World War II Air Force veteran and attended school in Hurricane, UT, and Brigham Young University. Survivors include his wife, Georgena; children, Mrs. Beverly Richards, Mrs. Loring Lee, George, Quentin, Ronald, Paul, John and Robert; six sisters; three brothers; and 13 grandchildren. BECKMAN, Dorothy W.

Sun City -- Dorothy W. Beckman, 64, who had been a volunteer worker for the mentally retarded 15 years and a member of Boswell Hospital Auxiliary, died March 10, 1980. Mrs. Beckman moved here two years ago from Cincinnati and was a member of the Quail Run Ladies Golf League here. Her husband, Elmer, survives. Dorothy H. Beckman, 70, who was a cashier 15 years at Turf Paradise and retired in 1971, died March 13, 1980. Mrs. Beckman came here 35 years ago from new York. She is survived by a son, Richard Sprague; two sisters and two brothers. Services at Camelback Sunset Chapel. Interment Floral Lakes. 3/17/1980.

BEECHER, William Fleming

Tempe -- William Fleming Beecher, 101, a retired dry goods and grocery store manager, died Oct. 9, 1980, in his home. He was born in Mexico, Pennsylvania, and came here in 1957 from Traer, Iowa. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Saturday, Oct. 11, 1980.

BEHREL, Edythe L.

Sun City -- Edythe L. Behrel, 68, moved here in 1976 from Des Plaines, IL, and died March 24, 1980. She was a member of Church of the Palms and Union Hills Country Club. She was a past matron of the Eastern Star. Husband, Herbert; children, Mrs. Barbara Newmann, Tempe, and Walter Stengel, Leadville, CO; eight grandchildren. Services were in Sunland Mausoleum Chapel. BEIMER, Dorothy D.

Dorothy D. Beimer, 73, who came here in 1960 from Wisconsin and retired in 1972 as a secretary for Anderson Aviation Co., died March 16, 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. There are no known survivors. 3/17/1980.

BENFER, Dr. Merrill M.

Sun City -- Dr. Merrill M. Benfer, 82, a retired Iowa physician who became a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 1947, died March 26, 1980. Dr. Benfer moved here in 1965 from Davenport, Iowa. He was a graduate of University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1928 and later was an instructor a year at University Hospital in Iowa City. He was World War I Army veteran and was listed in Who's Who in Iowa. Survivors include his children, Mrs. Thomas W.(Virginia) Clithero, Atlantic, Iowa, Mrs. John L. (Judy) Phillips, Dunlap, IL, and Lawrence M. Benfer, Fresno, CA; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Vernon, Lawrence and Arthur Benfer, all out of state; and five sisters, Doris Palmer, Alma Kleppe, Bess Polhemus, Irene Renson, Lenora Turpin. Edwin W. Bennett, 65, a retired Civil Service aircraft model maker who moved here from Pennsylvania in 1970, died Sept. 30, 1980, in DOctors Hospital. He was a charter member of Los Olivas Senior Citizens Club. Wife, Beatrice; children, Blanche Smith, Edwin, Jr., and Samuel; nine grandchildren; a sister and a brother. 10/3/1980.

Chandler -- Neome Myrtle Benton, 57, died Jan. 24, 1980. She lived the past 10 years in Chandler Heights. Husband, William A.; sons, George, William and John Benton. Mass was in St. Mary Catholic Church, 280 W. Galveston. 26 January 1980.

BERGH, Hazel I.

Hazel L. Bergh, who danced for the Monte Carlo Ballet Co. and worked 40 years for a dance studio in Sioux City, Iowa, died March 14, 1980. Miss Bergh, an Iowa native, retired to Sun City 10 years ago. She was graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City and was a member of Dance Masters of America. She was of the Lutheran faith and is survived by a sister, Orpha Bergh. Services and burial in Sioux City, Iowa. 3/16/1980.

BERGLUND, Floyd H.

Floyd H. Berglund, 65, a hotel desk clerk who came here from Colorado in 1977, died Oct. 10, 1980, in a Phoenix hospital. Survived by his children, Beverly Harp, Dennis, Robert and Tommy; two brothers; 11 grandchildren. The Arizona Republic Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1980.

Harold Bernard Bernson, 68, came here in 1966 from Dayton, Ohio, and died March 26, 1980. He had been a plant security officer for American Motors Corp. before taking medical retirement. Safford -- Dick Berryhill, 51, died Oct. 13, 1980, at Mount Graham Community Hospital. He was a local businessman and a Safford native. He was a charter member of the Graham County Sheriff's Search and Rescue unit. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; sons, Michael and Arthur; daughters, Deena Lynn Friederichsen, Lauri Jayne Windsor and Trisha Fon; and five grandchildren. Services were at Safford Elks Lodge. 10/15/1980.

BERUMEN, Betty Lou

San Carlos -- Betty Lou Berumen, 41, died Oct. 9, 1980, from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run accident. Mrs. Berumen was a housewife and San Carlos native. Survivors include her husband, Carlos; daughters, Angelia and Evelyn; three brothers and 11 grandchildren. 10/15/1980.

Husband, Walter A.; children, June Borisch, Brookfield, WI, Faith Nanetti, West Bend, WI, and Walter Russell Beyer, Phoenix; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Loretta Monien, Stevens Point, WI; and brothers, Fred Sherman, Milwaukee, WI, and Ray Sherman, Lake Geneva, WI. Apache Junction -- Frances Mae Bidak, 58, who had driven a bus for Maricopa County, transporting the elderly and delivering meals, died March 10, 1980, in Mesa Lutheran Hospital. Mrs. Bidak moved here in 1978 from Chicago. She is survived by her children, Janet Van Der Molen and Loren Bidak; two grandchildren; a sister and two brothers. , 95, a practicing Navajo medicine man who lived in the Tees Toh-Seba Dalkai area on the Navajo Rexervation most of his life, survived by daughters, Mary Susie BEGAY, Irene CANUHO and Leora BILLINGS. He was born in Tuba City in 1885 and had worked for the Santa Fe Railway. 3/17/1980.

Prescott -- Byron J. Black, 84, a Michigan native, died March 20, 1980, at Whipple Veterans Hospital. Mr. Black moved to Prescott in the 1930s. He was a retired land developer. Survivors include his wife, Murler; son, Bud; daughters, Patricia Zimmerman, Grace Templeton and Flora; four sisters; five brothers; 10 grandchildren. 3/27/1980.

Green Valley -- Freda M. Black, 55, lived in Green Valley for one year and died March 21, 1980, at her daughter's home in Phoenix were she was visiting. Mrs. Black retired as a computer and keypunch operator with Floyd Patterson Air Field in Ohio and came here from Richmond, IN. Wickenburg -- Leonard P. Blood, 80, of Wickenburg, died Sept. 29, 1980, in Beverly Manor Nursing Home, Sun City. He was a contractor 38 years in Los Angeles before coming here in 1970 from Long Beach. He was a member of the Masons, Elks and Shriners. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte. 5 October 1980.

Edward Bloomer, 57, died Jan. 21, 1980. He moved here ten years ago from Dumas, Texas, and was employed by Shure Electronics of Arizona and Phillips Petroleum Co. in Texas.
