Funeral services for Roderick Antoine Young, 25, of Van Vleck, will be
held Saturday, May 5, 2001, at 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church in Van
Vleck with the Rev. Ruben Newell, pastor. Burial will follow at St. John
Cemetery in Van Vleck. |
Funeral services for Zelma Franklin Young, 85, of Van Vleck will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with the Rev. Lewis Norman Jr. officiating. Burial will be until 9 p. m. at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel, located at 1300 Duncan St. Mrs. Young was born Aug. 30, 1906 in Wharton County to the late Jessie and Light Hatton Anderson and she died Aug. 29, 1992 at her home. She was a member of the Baptist church and the Heroines of Jericho. Survivors include two daughters, Jessie Mae Keith and Joyice Johnson of Van Vleck; a son, Leon Matthews of Bay City; three stepsons, Joshua Young of Palacios; James B. Young of Houston and Claudie Young of California; a sister, Johnnie M. Smith of San Francisco, Calif.; a godson, Edward Allen Jr. of Van Vleck; three generations of grandchildren, the first; Dorothy Pearl Knapp, Lawrence Johnson Jr., Katie Mae Flye, Clifton Johnson, Billie Wayne Howard, Adelean Johnson, Annette Matthews Smith, Felicia Johnson Whitaker, Zelma Johnson, Jean Johnson Morgan and Harriette Johnson; 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; two children, L. T. and Eugene Franklin and four stepchildren, Lloyd, Abe, Chatman and Daniel Young. Pallbearers will be Edward Allen Jr., Morris Hines, Deacon Isaiah King, Harry Brown, Tony Martin and James M. Robinson. Honorary pallbearers are Leon Matthews, Lawrence Johnson Jr., Clifton Johnson, Willie Norman, Joshua Young, James B. Young, Harry James Norman and Lewis Norman. Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, located at 1300 Duncan St. Daily Tribune, September 4, 1992
