Juel Bradford

Funeral service for Juel Bradford, 79, of Bay City, will be held 11 a. m. Tuesday at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Mr. Bradford was born Jan. 13, 1914 in Louise to Matthew and Massaline Williams Bradford and died Feb. 25, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

He was a member of the Baptist church. Mr. Bradford was a retired veterinarian’s assistant at Bay City Veterinary Clinic.

Survivors include his wife, Pauling Bradford of Bay City; two daughters, Ola McClain of El Campo and Shirley Allen of Bay City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Russell Bradford; a sister, Ruby Bradford; a son, J. C. Bradford; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Felix Lee Wiley, Willie Wiley Jr., Robert Johnson, Gregory Hill, J. C. Johnson and Gill Gleen Allen.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

BAY CITY - Funeral services for Charles Brinkley, 78, of Bay City, who passed away April 12, 2009 will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 2, 2009 at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with the Rev. Ruben Newell, eulogist. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.

Henry D. Brinkley Jr.

July 9, 1962 – July 10, 2024

Henry D. Brinkley Jr., 62, formerly of Bay City, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in Houston, Texas.

He was born in Fort Hood, Texas on July 9, 1962, to Henry Brinkley and Wilada Fields Brinkley.

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, Texas with Pastor Michael Riddick II, eulogist. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lakeside Memorial Chapel, 3318 Avenue D, Bay City, Texas.

Funeral Services for Jonathan Ross Brinkley, 19, of Van Vleck, will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at 11 a.m., at St. John Baptist Church, Van Vleck, with the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be Tuesday until 6 p.m. in the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel, and from 7 until 9 p.m. at the St. John Baptist Church.

He was born in Kingsville, Texas, Friday, March 27, 1981, and passed away Thursday, April 20, 2000, in Matagorda County, Texas.

He was a 1999 graduate of Van Vleck High School, and was employed with Brock Maintenance at Phillips Petroleum Co., in Old Ocean.

Survivors include: mother, Linette Brinkley Parker of Bay City; father, Todd Chambers of Houston; daughter, Samantha; sister, Crystal; brother, Chaz; grandparents, Jonas and Frances Stone Brinkley of Van Vleck, Hart Lee and Rita Bouldin Dykes of Bay City, and Leonard Chambers of Corpus Christi; three aunts, Denise Brazil, Sherria Richardson and Denise Chambers, and four uncles, Charles Brinkley, Sr., Dallas Ross Brinkley, Hart Lee Dykes, Jr. and Billy Dykes. Also a host of great aunts, uncles, other relatives and a family of friends.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Shannon Austin, Syrus Austin, Earnest Brinkley, Jr., Walter Ellis, Casey Kile, Chris Brown and Milton Burrell, Jr.

Kenneth Ray Brinkley, 56, formerly of Van Vleck, Texas passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 in Rosharon, Texas.

Visitation and guest book registry will be on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas.

Lun Brinkley

Funeral services for Lun Brinkley, 81, of Van Vleck; will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 in the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Mr. Brinkley died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 in Matagorda County. He was born in Ashwood, Texas on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 1918 to Henry Brinkley and Ophelia Bess Brinkley.

Survivors include; a son, Fred Brinkley and wife Brenda of Houston; three grandsons, Frederick, Michael and Quinton; two granddaughters, Andrea and Maya; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including those at Church of God of Prophecy in Van Vleck.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Mathilee Scott Parker Brinkley

Funeral services for Mathilee Scott Parker Brinkley, 66 , of Van Vleck, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001 at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with Rev. Ruben Newell eulogist. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

She was born in Bay City, Texas on Saturday, April 20, 1935, to Nathaniel Scott and Idell Beverly Simmons, and passed away Saturday, August 25, 2001, at Kindred Hospital in Houston.

Her warm and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include: her husband, John L. Brinkley, Sr. of Van Vleck; four daughters, Wanda Hawkins and Odis Sr. of Bay City, Ybarra Ellis and Paul, Tom Brinkley and Alzina “Tracy” Williams and Barry all of Van Vleck; three sons, Jon L. Powell “Candy” Brinkley

Funeral services for Powell “Candy” Brinkley, 92, of Van Vleck will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Van Vleck.

Visitation hours will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends from 8 to 9 p. m.

Mr. Brinkley was born Feb. 7, 1907 in Van Vleck to Henry and Ophelia Brinkley and died April 28, 1992 at Wagner General Hospital, Palacios.

A lifelong resident of Van Vleck, Mr. Brinkley was affiliated with the Baptist church.

Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Christine Spiller of Bay City, Diana and Remus D. Woodard of San Antonio and Glenda F. Thompson of San Antonio; four sons and five daughters-in-law, Charles and Inell Brinkley of Bay City, John L. and Mathilee Brinkley, James and Sarah Brinkley and Jonas and Frances Brinkley, all of Van Vleck, and Wanda Brinkley of Wichita Falls; a brother, Lun Brinkley of Van Vleck; six sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Booker of California, Carrie Davis and Rosie Lee Harkless of Bay City, Mary L. Allen, Elmira Hutchinson and Derotha Jones, all of Van Vleck; two brothers-in-law, Williams and Walter Davis of Van Vleck; 38 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Davis Brinkley on April 5, 1977 and a son, Master Sgt. Henry D. Brinkley on Jan. 18, 1978.

Pallbearers will be Bryant D. Brinkley, Earnest C. Brinkley, Charles E. Brinkley Jr., John W. Brinkley, John L. Brinkley Jr., Keith Brinkley, Kenneth R. Brinkley, Nathaniel Brinkley, Henry D. Brinkley Jr., Leslie Brinkley, Wilbert D. Brinkley, Desi Lewis, Dallas Ross, Jacob Woodard and Earl Woodard.

Honorary pallbearers will be John L. Brinkley Sr., James Brinkley, Jonas Brinkley, Charles Brinkley Sr., Charles Mangum, Ray Mangum, Remus D. Woodard and Bobby Flannel.

Sarah Lee Brinkley

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Lee Brinkley, 63, of Van Vleck, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at the First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with Rev. Murry Griggs, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m., in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home and Saturday from 1 until 2 p. m. at the church.

She was born in Matagorda County Monday March 25, 1935 to Ransom Edison and Carrie Murphy, and passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the home of her much loved sister, Naomi Robertson in Cedar Lake.

Sarah was employed by William Smith, Sr. Tri-County Child Development Council as Dietary Supervisor of Bay City and under the direction of Ms. Helen Wright whom she cherished and loved as an employer.

She was a faithful and devoted member of the First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, where she served dutifully, and proved to be a good follower. She was a lovable person, and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, James Brinkley of Van Vleck; two daughters, Mrs. Sheniqua Martin and Mrs. Tammie Horne, and a son, John W. Brinkley. Also 9 grandchildren, James, Iris, Sharra, Nicole, Chase, IeaSha, Gerald, Sadie and John, Jr.

Other survivors include her loving mother, Mrs. Carrie Murphy Phillips and a foster mother, Mrs. Louella Hawkins. Also three sisters, Mrs. Naomi Roberson, who cared for her until her demise, Mrs. Hattie Petitt and Ms. Maude Edison, and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ira Edison, Sr. (& Theresa) and Carey Hawkins (& Ida Belle), as well as a devoted sister-in-law, Mrs. Christine Spiller. Also a dear niece, Mrs. Glenda Thompson, and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Remus & Dinah Brinkley Woodard, Jonas & Frances Brinkley, John L. & Mathilee Brinkley, and Charles & Inell Brinkley.

Very special friends include Earnest Pettit, Jr. and his family, Shelia, Dexture, Portia, Earnest III and Lisa Pettit, as well as Mrs. Millie Pettit and Mrs. Annie Bryan, whom she loved. Sarah Lee also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, other relatives and a family of friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ransom Edison, two persons instrumental in her rearing, Tom Hawkins and Booker T. Phillips, and a very special friend, Shirley Pettit.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Keith Hawkins, Jonas Brinkley, Elijah Davis, John Roberson, Anthony Edison, Michael Edison, Odis Hawkins and Louis Anderson.
