Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Mangum Williams Brown, 68, of Bay City, will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, a 1 p. m., at the First Sacred Memorial Christian Church in Bay City, with Rev. A. H. Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck. Visitation is Wednesday until 9 p. m in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Thursday from noon until 1 p. m. at the church. She was born in Wadsworth, Texas, Monday, April 15, 1929, to Mack Mangum and Elnora Smith Mangum, and passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, at Diagnostic Center Hospital in Houston, Texas. She owned and operated Brown’s Drapery in Bay City for 17 years. Her distinguished drapery assisted in beautifying many homes and businesses in Bay City and the surrounding area. Aside her religious affiliations with First Sacred Memorial Christian Church, her fraternal organization included membership with the Heroines of Jericho. Survivors include her husband, Fred Brown of the home, and nine children which consist of four daughters and five sons, James Williams (and Mildred) of Freeport, Mrs. Elnora Woodard (and Ward) of Brazoria, Mrs. Carrie Wyche of Houston, Curtis Williams (and Gwenn) of Lake Jackson, Charles Williams (and Chelsie) of Hampton, Virginia, Lonnie Ray Williams (and Deborah) of Houston, Robert Earl Williams, Mrs. Barbara Jean Baugh and Mrs. Audrey Edwards, all of Bay City. Other survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Brown, Mrs. Lottie Mayberry and Ms. Christine Mangum all of Bay City, and Mrs. Evelyn Jones of Arcola, as well as two brothers, Charles Henry Mangum of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Henry Mangum of Homer, Louisiana. Also a step-mother, Mrs. Sarah Grice Mangum of Bay City, three aunts, Mrs. Elizabeth Scurry of Bay City, Mrs. Leona Mangum of Houston and Mrs. Pearl Mangum of Van Vleck; and two uncles, Frank Stone of Bay City, and L. V. Brown of Danciger. She also leaves 27 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Leroy Williams, four brothers, Mack Mangum, J. L. Mangum, Donald Mangum and Ben Mangum and four grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers will be Elroy Higgins, Tim Higgins, John D. Fisher, Ira Edison, Jr., Kenneth Davis and Frank Clay. Honorary pallbearers will include her sons and grandsons. Funeral services for Annie Swist Bryan, 77, of Van Vleck, were held Saturday, March 9, 2002 at 1 p. m. at the St. John Baptist Church, Van Vleck, Texas, with Rev. Ruben Newell, eulogist. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation was Friday until 9 p. m. in the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel. She was born in Lane City, Texas, Sunday, October 12, 1924, to Charlie Swist and Alzina Jackson Swist, and passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Lifecare Hospital, Dallas, Texas. She was a woman full of warmth and humor. Her simple but passionate well-being was a source of amazement to all whom she met. Survivors include: a son, Will Richardson of Houston, and three sisters, Millie Pettit and Myrtle Swist of Van Vleck and Pearl Roberson of Dallas. Also daughter-in-law, Sarah Richardson and sister-in-law, Maude Swist; 7 grandchildren, Bertha, Taurus, Delores, John, Eddie, Christopher and Chris; 16 great-grands which include one she reared, Ashley; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers were Ricky Austin, John Brinkley, Randy King, Earnest Pettit, III, Dexture Pettit, Kenneth Raffert, Darrell Richardson, Eric Roberson, Paul Roberson, Quentin Roberson and Marion Swist. Funeral services for Melba Melveon Bryant, 58, of Richmond, Texas, formerly of Bay City, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Mother Zion Baptist Church, Bay City, with the Rev. Will Moore officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Van Vleck. Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home. Miss Bryant was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Texas to Sebron and Estella Wallace Bryant and died April 13, 1987, at her residence. She was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Doreatha and Henry Bonner of Richmond and Loretta and Charlie Kemp Jr. of Hungerford; three sisters, Lucinda Lemons of Elm Grove, Nina Banks of Van Vleck and Delores Moore of Houston; four brothers, Willie Bryant Sr. and Jerry Bryant Sr., both of Bay City, Samuel Bryant of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Sebron Bryant of the U. S. Army; and four grandchildren Solyde Bankston Jr., Lemetra Bankston and Shurnaye Bonner, all of Richmond, and Claretta Kemp of Hungerford. Pallbearers include Solyde Bankston Jr., Henry Bonner Jr., Charlie Kemp Jr., Michael Moore, Hollis Lemons and Manford Brazil. Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Willie “Fox” Lewis Bryant, 65, of Bay City, will be at 11 a. m., Saturday August 1, 1998 at Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Kenneth Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck. Mr. Bryant will lie in state at the church from 10 a. m. until 11 a. m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be Friday afternoon until 9 p. m. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 at Green’s. Mr. Bryant died Thursday July 23 at Matagorda General Hospital. He was born January 7, 1933 to Sebron Bryant and Estela Bryant in Matagorda County. He is survived by his wife, Regina Davis Bryant of Bay City; children Rhonda Cooper and Jake Cooper, Willie L. Bryant, Jr., William Anderson, Leroy Renee Hawkins and Allen A. Hawkins, Tamika Davis, Ruby Davis and Torance Davis; sister Delores Moore of Houston; brothers Sebron Bryant, Jerry Bryant Sr. of Bay City and Samuel Bryant of Alabama; special nephew Terry D. Bryant of Bay City; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Ms. Burnett was born in Wharton County, Iago, Texas, to Crad Dickson and Jessie Wiggins Dickson, Monday, November 4, 1940, and died Wednesday, December 13, 1995, in Angleton, Texas. Survivors include 5 daughters and two sons-in-law, Mrs. Belva Lavern Woods (& Andrew, Sr.) of Bay City, Ms. Debra Faye Stone, Mrs. Paula Jean Edwards, Mrs. Donnetta Ward Owens (& Walter), and Ms. Tarsha Marie Clark, all of Angleton; and two sons, Lucky Ward and Percy “Joe” Stafford, both of Angleton. She also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Inez Campbell of Houston, Mrs. Annie Mae Alexander of Brazoria, Mrs. Melba Jean Barefield and Mrs. Edna Lee Clay, both of Bay City, and two brothers, Claudie Dickson of Houston, and Roosevelt “Veetie” Dickson of Wharton. Also two aunts, Mrs. Pauline Bradford of Bay City, and Mrs. Cozie Workman of Hearn, and two uncles, Felix Wiley of Port Lavaca and Willie Wiley, Sr. of Sweeny. She leaves 20 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, an extended family of cousins, other relatives and many, many friends who knew her affectionately as “Mickey” and “Jessie Mae.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Crad Dickson and Jessie Stroman, one son, Ronnie Stafford, two brothers, Crad Dickson Jr. and J. C. Dickson. Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Bythewood, 68, of Bay City are planned for 2:30 p. m. Sunday at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with the Rev. Bennie Allen officiating. Interment will be in Van Vleck Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 – 9 p. m. Saturday at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Bythewood, born Oct. 14, 1915, in Van Vleck, died at his home Jan. 14, 1983. He was the son of Samuel Bythewood Sr. and Margaret Chester Bythewood, both deceased. An active deacon of St. John Baptist Church, Mr. Bythewood was a trustee and chairman of the church building fund. He was also active in the community, working with the EAC, Rural Resources, Head Start and the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department. He is survived by: his wife, Mrs. Eddie Lou Bythewood of Bay City; a stepson, Eldred R. Thymes of Van Vleck; a brother, J. D. Lee of San Francisco, Calif.; three nieces, Mrs. Mary Brown of Sweeny and Mrs. Margaret Ellis and Mrs. Doris Lewis of Bay City. Pallbearers include Horace Ashton, J. C. Ashton, John L. Brinkley, Isaiah King, Earnest Pettit and Isham Southall. Funeral arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.
