HORSTMAN, NISSEN posted by Janet Richmond on Tuesday, March 7, 2006

I am seeking the descendants of Siegfried NISSEN and John HORSTMAN. An article about Mr. Nissen, whose daughter married a Horstman, reads in part: Platte Center lost a representative business man and worthy citizen when Siegfried C. B. Nissen was called to his final rest in 1911. He was the proprietor of the Fairmont Creamery and as such was conducting a substantial business....On the 31st of October, 1877, Mr. Nissen was united in marriage to Miss Anna Marie Allfrieda, a daughter of Jorgen and Dorothea Knudsen, also natives of Denmark. Her father was an officer in the Danish army. To Mr. and Mrs. Nissen were born three children, namely: Sarah, Antonia and Hugo. The first two are natives of Odense, Denmark. Sarah is now the wife of John Horstman, of St. Libory, Nebraska, where they own a farm, and they have five children. Antonia is the wife of Gregor Brunt, a farmer living near Columbus, and they have three children. Hugo, who was born in Merrick county, Nebraska, married Frieda Berchtold and is now engaged in farming near Columbus. Mr. and Mrs. Nissen also reared an adopted daughter, Christina...He was an Odd Fellow in his fraternal relations and a Lutheran in his religious faith

LUBKER, LUEBKER posted by Carolyn Lubker on Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Since I first registered the surname LUBKER I have discovered that the 1880 Federal Census for Creston, Platte, Nebraska has the spelling of this name with an extra e -- Luebker. All members of the family listed are exactly the same as our family record. We also found a Homestead Certificate for his property in Creston, NE -- dated June 1880 under the name Hinrich Friedrich Lubker! I just ran across the Shell Creek Baptist Church History, Platte Co. Nebraska, and saw the name Fred LUEBKER. Is this possibly the same man?
Thank you your assistance, Carolyn Lubker

JOHNSON, KUTA, LARKINS, REILLY, RILEY posted by Anna Marie Szatko on Wednesday, March 14, 2007

I am looking for information on John RILEY/ REILLY who is my great grandfather. He moved to Platte County, Ne sometime in the 1870's. He is listed as living in the area with a son Linden (Lenn) RILEY after the death of his first wife Elizabeth LARKINS. They moved here from the Bureau County Illinois area. There was always talk that John was related to the Michael O. and E. REILLY family who moved to the Platte Center area around 1904. Names in that family include: Francis (Frank) REILLY, Robert E. REILLY, Edward REILLY, Caroline " Carrie" REILLY. Children of Francis in the Columbus area were: Thomas A REILLY, Catherine REILLY, Maura REILLY JOHNSON, Maurice REILLY. John married my great grandmother Agnes KUTA in 1879 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. They settled in Columbus and were the parents of Andrew RILEY, Mary RILEY, Anna RILEY, Catherine RILEY, Sarah RILEY, Helen RILEY and Rose RILEY.
I have been unable to find any prior information on my great grandfather except for the fact that he was born in England in 1833 and that he married his first wife in 1861 in Bureau County, Illinois.
I would like to see if I can tie in the two families together and maybe find more information on John through this.

Looking for information on the WIATER Family that lived in and around Platte Center and Columbus, Nebraska in the late 1880's and early 1890's. Eva WIATER, is my great grandmother. She was born Dec 21, 1863 in Tarnov, Poland. She was married briefly to Anton SAKOWSKI in January 1883. They married at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus, Ne. He was deported back to Poland after finding he was married and had a family over there. I have been able to find absolutely no information on him. She married John J. PENSICK in 1889 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. I have information showing her father possibly to be Anton WIATER and her mother to be Regina ZAUCHA. I can find no further information on them. She had a brother Adam WIATER born in 1852 who was married to a Joseka BRUDNO in 1888 . I've been told that they were divorced, but I have been unable to find a ny other information on either of them. She also had a brother John Edward WIATER, born in 1869, he changed his last name to WENDT and moved to Wyoming. On a passenger list, along with these above mentioned were a Catherine WIATER born approx 1852 and a Worcich WIATER born about 1867. I'm not sure who these are, maybe not brothers or sisters.
I am interested in any information at all regarding the WIATER family from the Platte Center area.

MELCHER posted by Dr. Gary Muffley on Tuesday, August 11, 2009

I am seeking to contact descendants of Johann MELCHER, born September 28, 1833, at Schönholthausen, Westphalia, Prussia. At time of emigration, he gave his destination as Nebraska. He may have been the John Melcher b. 1833 in the 1900 census of Platte County, Nebraska.

I wish to determine if Johann was kin to Casper Melcher, born February 11, 1826, at Schönholthausen. Casper, ancestor of my wife, was in the California Gold Rush, was in the Missouri Cavalry during the Civil War, & lived in Cedar and Dade counties, Missouri.
