John B. HEINTZ came to Platte Co. in 1872. His parents Nicholas and Barbara (NEILSEN), brother Peter, and sister Margaret came about 1889. In 1900 Nicholas was living in Shelby Co., IA. Peter HEINTZ married Elizabeth WINDOLPH and also went to Shelby Co., IA. Nicholas died 17 Nov 1903 and is buried at Harlan, Iowa. I am trying to find a death record for his wife Barbara. I believe she may have died in Columbus, Platte Co. just prior to 1900. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

BLANK, LYON, SWANEY posted by Harold Swaney on Saturday, December 30, 2000

I have been searching for my lost family history. Most of my family settled in Neb. so I have been searching the counties in Neb. I found some surnames of mine in Platte Co. Neb. Because of a divorce many years ago, the only information that I have on my family is from an old birth certificate. My father:: Kenneth Gordon BLANK, b. Feb. 10, 1914 in Gordon, Neb. his father: William John BLANK, b. Marion, Wis. mother: Georgia LYON, b. Gordon, Neb. William and Georgia had two children, my father Kenneth and his sister Loreen. William and Georgia got a divorce and Georgia married 2nd husband Frank SWANEY, The two children used the SWANEY name but there was no adoption. I found the BLANK and the LYON name in the Platte county under mariages and cemeteries, deaths in the 1997 Columbus Telegram. Also the farmers list 1890. I thank anyone that might be able to connect me with some of these families with the ones I have on this birth certificate. I know none of my BLANK, LYON or SWANEY families. Thank you

Would like futher info on their family also. Anyone that can help or is researching this same line would be glad to share what I have . Thanks ahead of time.

CHIOCHON, MARFICA, MARFICE, MARFICIE, MIELAK, RODAK, SHELTON, STANEK, STANIEC posted by Deborah Matthews on Sunday, March 11, 2001

My great-grandfather (George MARFICA) and his second wife (Eva or Ewa RODAK??) came to America and settled in the Columbus area. My grandfather was the youngest of their 5 children. He was born John MARFICA (?) December 10, 1892. He and his older brother Frank changed their last name to MARFICIE and my grandfather John later changed it again to MARFICE. George died fairly soon after my grandfather John's birth, perhaps in 1893 or 4. Eva remarried in October 1896 to Charles CHIOCHON (Chichon) and moved to Holt County. Am interested in anyone having information about George MARFICA (such as death date or where buried as well as where the family immigrated from). Other children from his first marriage include Anna MARFICA MIELAK, Mary ANTONIA MIELAK, and Charles MARFICA. John and Frank's other full siblings include: Rose MARFICA SHELTON, Julia MARFICA STANIEC, and Mary MARFICA STANEK. Have found limited information on many of these people, although no information in of ancestors. Am also interested in Eva's background. Family history indicates that Paul RODAK of Columbus was her brother. I have been in contact with Mike Korgie (from the RODAK line), and he has provided some information, although Eva's attachment to the family is not documented in any records he has seen either. Thanks in advance for any information or items you may wish to share.

MIERAU, MIREAU posted by Maureen Green on Sunday, March 11, 2001

I am researching the MIERAU/MIREAU family. Most of the family, (that I knew of) were from the Minnesota and Wisconsin area however, it appears that there may a branch of the family in Newman Grove, Nebraska. The only real clues I have are some unmarked photos, and several references to Mierau's in Nebraska, especially in this area. The pictures appear to be quite old, late 1890' - early 1900's guessing from the style. Apparently my grandmother marked the album rather than the photos. The pictures are attached to cardboard "frames" which have Olson (studio?) Newman Grove Neb embossed on them. There are 4 pictures of two young men at various ages. We are pretty certain that my great grandfather, Gustav Mierau, had some siblings who came to the US after he did (around 1879), but no-one remembers hearing when they came or where they ended up. In researching on the internet I have found several references to Mierau's - primarily obituaries and SSDI which list Newman Grove and Nebraska. There are also a number of references in the Metz Mortuary Index which is from York county, Nebraska (I think!) The other family surnames are Seekamp, Neeb, Aulenbacher, and Ehlert. I would be very appreciative of any information, and will certainly share whatever I may have to offer. Thank you, Maureen Green
