Ammunition Plant with 30 years of service. During his retirement years, he
enjoyed his hobby, working on clocks. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Hybunia Poff Naff. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, William
and Connie Naff of Lebanon, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and
Boyce Thompson of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Virginia Thompson of
London, England, Caroline Thompson of Gainesville, Fla., Alicia Naff of
Lebanon, Tenn. Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27,
2003 at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd with Rev. Elbert Lee Naff officiating.

19, 2002, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was retired
from Floyd Garment Company where she enjoyed working with all her
co-workers for many years. Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years,
Erman L. Naff of Check; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Boyce
Thompson of Orlando, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Connie
Naff of Lebanon, Tenn.; three grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Virginia
Thompson of London, England, Caroline Thompson of Gainesville, Fla., Alicia
Naff of Lebanon, Tenn.; one brother, Winston W. Poff of Copper Hill; two
sisters, Augustine Walton of Silver Spring, Md., Edith Pearl Thomas of
Floyd. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2002, in

Floyd, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020. She was preceded in death
by her parents, William and Nora Harris; stepmother, Maude Harris; husband,
Carol Neighbours; grandson, Corey Lee Newman; and brothers, Mack Harris and
Joe Harris. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Ina
Whitlock and Dennis and Karen Whitlock; daughters and son-in-law, Gladys
Whitlock and Louise and Kenny Newman; six grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Margaret Harris and Judy Sweeney
(Barry); stepsister, Shirley Oliver (David) and her extended Neighbours
family. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19,
2020, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin
officiating. Interment followed at the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family

Bryan Matthew “Big B”
Nester, 26, of Morehead City, N.C., a loving and big-hearted man, took his
loving smile to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2016.
His funeral was held Thursday, March 24, at One Harbor Church in Morehead
City, N.C. The Rev. Donnie Griggs officiated.
He is survived by his father, Dale Nester, and Stephanie Carter of
Fredericksburg; his brother and sister, Jonathan Nester and Taylor Penn;
stepbrother and stepsister Crist Dauberman and Lauren Dauberman; stepmom
Jennifer Warren; grandparents Robert L. Nester and Patricia Nearhood of
Pine Knoll Shores, N.C. and Richlands; grandparents James Aldridge and Jean
Ferguson of Copperhill; uncles and aunts Duane and Charlotte Phillips,
Jeanette Nester Brown and Dale Massey, Teresa Nester, Susan Handy, Robert
L. Nester Jr., Debbie Lucas and Emma Jean Aldridge; special cousin, Travis
Aldridge; and special cousins and “bestest buddies,” Joey Brown of Morehead
City, N.C., and Julee Brown of Charlottesville.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann Penn; uncle “Buck”

Mary Rose Nester, 82, of Peterstown, W.Va., died Tuesday,
January 13, 2004 at St. Marys Hospital, Huntington, W.Va. Born October 27,
1921 at Berwind, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late John and Clara Sabo
Bolash. She was a retired employee of Sears and a member of Peterstown
Missionary Baptist Church, the Kathleen Hamm Circle and a charter member of
the Peterstown Women's Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, John C. Nester; and two sons, Jeffrey and James
Nester. Survivors include, two sons, John C. Nester, III and wife, Judy of
South Charleston, W.Va., and Jerry J. Nester and wife, Carol of Puyallup,
Wash.; one sister, Elizabeth Miller of Ohio; seven grandchildren and eleven
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17,
2004 at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown with Rev.

Lakeland - Marvin Kemp Nester,
age 96, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021.
He was born in Berwind, West Virginia on October 28, 1925 and was the son
of the late John Cloyd and Mary Ethel Nester.
Marvin had made his home in Lakeland for the past 37 years and was retired
from Publix having worked as Assistant Production Manager for the Lakeland
dairy manufacturing facility. He was a 1950 Dairy Science graduate of
Virginia Tech and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the Army
Air Corps during World War II. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing with
his sons and grandchildren as well as yard work and gardening; including
recognition as an award-winning grower of African Violets. He actively
served his church and community and closely followed his Hokies. He was a
member of the Shepherd Road Baptist Church in Mulberry, FL.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife,
Beulah Jessee Nester; his sister, Gladys Nester Agee; and three brothers:
John Nester Jr, Howard Nester, and Dale Nester.
Survivors include: his wife of 33 years: Debra Godwin Nester of Lakeland;
two sons: Edward Nester and wife, Elizabeth of Mineola, TX, Thomas Nester
and wife, Constance of Big Canoe, GA; brother: Robert L. Nester of
Fredericksburg, VA; sister-in-law: Gwen Cooke and husband, Dwayne of
Bristol, VA; three grandchildren: Jonathan Nester and wife, Jennifer of
Whidbey Island, WA; Cameron Nester of Denver, CO; and Kara Nester of
Olympia, WA; great grandchild: Trinity Nester of Whidbey Island, WA; twenty-six
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Marvin Nester will be conducted Tuesday, November 30,
2021 at 2pm at the Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd, Virginia with the
Reverend Curtis E. Nester officiating. Interment will follow at
Jacksonville Cemetery, also in Floyd. The family will receive friends from
12pm to 2pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Irene Akers Nixon, 98, of
Christiansburg, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013. She was born on
October 4, 1914, in Floyd. Mrs. Nixon worked at the overall factory in her
younger years, and her last employment of which she was very fond was
Wade's Supermarket, where she worked until she was almost 80. She was
preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Thomas Nixon, Jr.; her
daughter, Shelby Kingrea; her parents, Mason and Willie Akers; and five
brothers, Paige, Cleve, Jay, Ralph and George Akers.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Ravanal and Bobby Huff,
Charles Kingrea, Donna and Glenwood Martin, Judy and Denny Wells; seven
grandchildren, Bobby L Huff, Stephanie Yates, Kimberly Ingram, Stacy
Martin, Tammy Martin-Whorley, Kayla Chaffin, Matthew Wells; three
stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a special niece, Lois Tatum;
and a special friend and neighbor, Alonzo Hardy.
She was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will be missed. Tammy
was Granny's buddy, and the two went everywhere together, even Tech
football games.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28,
2013, at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Marlan Morris
officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may
call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will
be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The family expresses thanks to a special caregiver, Tasha for the good care

hospital. He was preceded in death by a brother, Artice Nolen. He served hi
s country in World War II and was decorated with an EAME Ribbon, two Bronze
Stars, a Purple Heart, and a Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by his wife
of 56 years, Lucille T. Nolen, Floyd; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce
and Doug Wyatt, Roanoke, Judy and Norman Hylton, Floyd; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Curtis and Camie Nolen, Floyd, Kenneth and Barbara Nolen, Floyd; two
brothers, Lewis Nolen, Floyd, Morris Nolen, Floyd; sister, Marie Rakes,
Floyd; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services
will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Wood and
Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville
Cemetery, with graveside rites by Floyd Moose Lodge #2300. Friends may call

Nolen, 95, entered her heavenly home on Monday, November 20, 2017.
She was a beloved mother
and grandmother who joyfully shared her Christian faith. As a child she
walked to New Haven Baptist Church where she became a lifelong member.
Lucille worked as a seamstress for 42 years in the local garment factory.
She lovingly shared her gift of sewing to help out family and friends. She
also enjoyed quilting and crocheting. In the summer she was found
gardening, cooking and canning. She blessed many with her famous apple
pies, a tradition and family recipe handed down by her mother.
Preceding her in death
were her husband of 57 years, Edd Nolen; parents, Claude and Alma Thomas;
and great-great-grandson Alex Webster.
She is survived by four
children, Joyce (Doug) Wyatt, Curtis (Cammy) Nolen, Kenneth (Bobbie) Nolen,
and Judy (Norman) Hylton; seven grandchildren,Becky Hartman-Ellis, Jeannie
Loving, Tammy Kirtner, Julie Hunley, Kenny Nolen, Chris Nolen, and Nicole
Epperly; 21 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren;
sister-in-law, Fern Nolen; and faithful friends and neighbors.
A funeral service was
held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2017, at Gardner Funeral Home with the
Reverends Leon Wood and John Chambers officiating, interment in
Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends called after 8:30 a.m., Friday, November 24,
2017, where family received friends from 12 until 2 p.m. Flowers were appreciated or donations may be made to the Medical
Charities of Floyd in memory of Mrs. Nolen. Arrangements by Gardner Funeral

Goldie Boyd Nolen, of Christiansburg, age 79, died June 5,
2004 after a brave battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was the daughter of
the late Eula and General Boyd of Floyd, Virginia. She was preceded in
death by her husbands, Gordon L. Nolen and Warren Grant Nolen, brother
Wilson Boyd, sisters Lelia Hatcher, Pauline Brockwell, Tempsey Mitchell and
infant sister Frances Boyd. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Jane and
Robert O'Keeffe; sons and daughter-in-law Steve and Eva Nolen and Randy and
Kathy Nolen. She is also survived by grandsons Ryan and Zachary Nolen and
survived by sisters Sylvia Hatcher, Ocie Weddle, Irene Spangler and Lucy
Harris all of Floyd and many special nieces and nephews. She also leaves
Nicole Woodruff, a special granddaughter.The family would like to extend
sincerest thanks to Dr. Scott Jamison, Carilion New River Valley Hospital
Nursing staff, and staff at Radford Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Special thanks to all friends, neighbors and co-workers who provided
support during her illness and especially to the children from Falling Branch
Elementary School who gave their hearts and smiles to Mrs. Goldie. Friends

Ivan Dallas Nolen, 91 of Floyd, entered his heavenly home on Friday,
December 3, 2021.
Ivan was proud to be a veteran and served his country in the Korean War.
Preceding him in death were his parents Dallas Crum Nolen, his mother Edith
Rakes Nolen, a brother W.G. Nolen, sister Ava Ruth Brindley, sister-in-law
Jean Nolen and Alice Nolen, and his son Richard Ivan Nolen.
Left to cherish his memories are his two brothers, Toby Nolen (friend
Sandra), and Jack Frost Nolen, his loving wife Betty Jean Agee Nolen, and
two sons, Michael (Sandra) Nolen, and Darrell (Kathy) Nolen, Seven
Grandchildren, Christina (Giles) Cochran, Carmon Nolen, Holly (Ben) Kiser,
Mitchell (Heather) Nolen, Robin Nolen (Ricky), Jacob Nolen, Jordan Nolen
(Cleive), Ten great-grandchildren, and many dear faithful friends and
neighbors, and the very special Hospice Nurses whom he loved dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at
the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hudgins officiating. The
family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment
will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery with military rights by The Army

husband, Earl Nolen and her grandson-in-law, Timothy Chisom. Flora is survived
by her daughter, Gloria Dean Prillaman and husband, James; her special

nieces and nephews.

Goldie Boyd Nolen, of Christiansburg, age 79, died June
5, 2004 after a brave battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was the daughter of
the late Eula and General Boyd of Floyd, Virginia. She was preceded in
death by her husbands, Gordon L. Nolen and Warren Grant Nolen, brother
Wilson Boyd, sisters Lelia Hatcher, Pauline Brockwell, Tempsey Mitchell and
infant sister Frances Boyd. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Jane and
Robert O'Keeffe; sons and daughter-in-law Steve and Eva Nolen and Randy and
Kathy Nolen. She is also survived by grandsons Ryan and Zachary Nolen and
survived by sisters Sylvia Hatcher, Ocie Weddle, Irene Spangler and Lucy
Harris all of Floyd and many special nieces and nephews. She also leaves
Nicole Woodruff, a special granddaughter.The family would like to extend
sincerest thanks to Dr. Scott Jamison, Carilion New River Valley Hospital
Nursing staff, and staff at Radford Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Special thanks to all friends, neighbors and co-workers who provided
support during her illness and especially to the children from Falling
Branch Elementary School who gave their hearts and smiles to Mrs. Goldie.
Friends may call at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, after 12 noon Sunday, June
6th, where the family will be from 6 - 8 pm. Funeral service 11 am, Monday
at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren with Rev. Richard W. Thomas
officiating. Interment at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd. Arrangements by
Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd.

Nolley - b.1945-07-25 d.2021-11-26Wanda June Wray Nolley, 76, of Pilot,
passed away with her daughter by her side on Friday November 26, 2021.
Wanda grew up in Floyd, the 11th of 12 children. Wanda attended Faith
Baptist Church. Wanda eventually found her love with Vernon Nolley. Their
marriage brought her 2 additional daughters and a son, whom she loved as
her own. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, James and Erslea Wray;
husband Vernon Nolley; siblings and spouses, Annie and Wilmer Harris,
Thurman Wray, Herman Wray, Ruth and Russell Young, Rufus and Glenna Wray,
R.K. Albert, EmmaJean Wray, Herbert and Judy Wray, and Johnny Wayne Wray.
She is survived by her children, Shawnee and Terry Fenton, Kim and Randall
Nester, Corey and Susan Nolley, and Lynette and Bryan Vest; Grandchildren,
Patrick and Morgan Moran, Bryce and Wyatt Gearhart, Macey and Dustin
Thompson, Tyler Fenton, Carter Nolley, Kaleb Fenton and Charlie Vest;
Great-grandchildren, Daniel Moran, Kade Gearhart, and Lucy Moran. Siblings;
Charlie and Sette Wray, Corine Albert, Mary and Harold Mullins.
Sisters-in-law, Bonnie Wray and Eileen Wray. Many nieces and nephews and
numerous friends. Special 2nd daughters, Gretchen Gleim and Sandi Howell, a
niece she had become very close to in recent years. Services will be
Tuesday November 30, 2021, at 2pm at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd, VA.
With Pastor Josh Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends
on Monday November 29, 2021, from 6-8pm at Gardner Funeral Home. Interment
will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, VA. In lieu of flowers
donations may be made to the Floyd County volunteer Rescue Squad. Online
condolences may be made at Gardnerfuneralhomefloyd.com. The family is being
served by Gardner Funeral Home.

Ethel Jordan Nuckols; 86 of
Floyd VA, passed away Thursday November 25, 2010.
She was preceded in death
by her husband A. Edward Nuckols, Sr.
Survived by her daughter,
Pamela Nuckols; son, Alvin E. Nuckols, Jr.; and the pride and joy of her
life, Brooke and Ashton Williams, whom she loved like her own
granddaughters.
Ethel was well known for
her crafts, quilts and as an Antique Dealer. Her great love was for the
sewing circle and the friends she shared it with.
Funeral service will be
held 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 28, 2010 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Richard Gregory and Dr. Don Stansell officiating. Interment to follow
in Jacksonville Cemetery.
Family will receive 6-8
p.m. Saturday November 27, 2010 at the funeral Home.
Flowers will be
appreciated. For those who wish to make memorial donations, the family
suggests the donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric
Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
