AKERS, Orville Edward
Sr., ("Doc"), 80, of Dublin, passed away Tuesday, January 27,
1998, at Carilion Radford Community Hospital. Born on May 24, 1917, he was
the son of the late John Dillard & Della Roope Akers. Mr. Akers was
preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Agnes Cox Akers; one daughter, Sylvia C. Owens; and four
brothers; and two sisters. Surviving are five sons & daughters-in-law,
Charles W. & Carole Akers, Orville F. Jr. & Barbara Akers, both of
Dublin, Dillard W. & Sharon Akers of Christiansburg, Randall S. &
Deborah Akers of Waynesboro, and Ronald L. & Lisa Akers of Dublin; one
daughter, Sandra K. Akers of Dublin; eleven grandchildren; ten
great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
two brothers, Mack L. Akers of Pearisburg and James R. Akers of Hillsville;
three sisters, Kate Ratcliff and "Bubbles" Turpin, both of
Dublin, and Bertha Hancock of Independence; numerous nieces, nephews and
friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 29, 1998, at 1 p.m.
at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev.
David Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in the Newbern Cemetery in
Newbern. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the
Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

1990, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by two sons, Weldon (Buddy) Cox, Martinsville; Warren Dale
Cox, Bassett; one daughter, Linda Osmundson, Columbia, Md.; wife, Ruth W.
Cox, Bassett; mother, Bessie Akers Cox, Willis; five sisters, Hazel Scaggs,
Josephine Scaggs, both of Riner; Ovada Weeks, Floyd; Izola Moye, Tennessee;
Agnes Montgomery, Christiansburg; four brothers, Shelba Cox, Elba Cox,

the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with the Rev. Kenny Wurzburger officiating.
Interment will follow in Big Sand Cemetery, Indian Valley. The family will

Calvin Elwood Cox, 77, of Willis passed away Saturday,
November 15, 2014 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Cicero and Gay Cox; two sets of twin brothers, Brady & Grady Cox &
Shelba and Elba Cox; sisters, Hazel Scaggs, Josephine Scaggs and Izola Moye.
He is survived by his brother, Archie Cox; sisters Ovada Weeks and Agnes
Montgomery; special nephew, Dale Cox and wife Mary; cousin, Bud Cox;
special friend, Leslie Fisher and caregivers, John McDaniel, Mary Grooms,
Nancy Wade. The family would like to express a special thanks to Good
Samaritan Hospice.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Maberry
Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dewayne Troutt and Pastor Roy Turpin
officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the

special caregivers, Nancy Wade, Mary Grooms and Lisa Huff; special nephew,

Heavenly home on Monday, July 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Myrtha Rhodes Cox; and parents, Lonnie G. Cox and Opa Mae Cox. James
is survived by his three sons, Robert L. Cox and wife, Sonya, James Alvin
Cox, and Richard Cox and wife, Shelly; five grandchildren, Sarah M. Cox,
Alyson T. Cox, Angela Hannah, Michelle Cox, Eddie and Lucas Ball; three
great-grandchildren, Autumn and Kieley Hannah and Toby Campellone; as well
as his step-daughters, Glenna C. Hungate and husband, Darrell, Regina C.
Ball and husband, Jeff, and Rebecca C. Lawrence and husband, Roger; two
brothers, Roger D. Cox and wife, Peggy and Exel Lakewood Cox and wife,
Betty; sister, Mardell Cox; numerous nieces and nephews; and his 'lil
buddy, Oscar. James was a man who worked hard and always provided for his
family. He loved to serve his church and his community. He was a long-time
member of Peters Creek Church of the Brethren. James especially loved to travel
and experience the world. The family would like to extend a special thanks
to all the people who made his transition easy. The family will receive
friends from 6to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at John M. Oakey &
Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July
14, 2017 at Peters Creek Church of the Brethren with Minister Sonya M. Cox
officiating. An interment will follow at Ambrose Cox Memorial Park in Floyd

Funeral services will be
11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Elbert Lee Naff, Rev. Kenny Wurzburger, Rev. Michael Pugh and Rev.
Richard Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Big Sand Cemetery. The

June 7, 1998 at McDonough District Hospital. He was born October 20, 1909
in Indian Valley, Va., the son of Nancy and Bert Clinton Cox. He lived in
Virginia until moving to Illinois in 1970 where he lived with Mr. &
Mrs. George C. Potter. He moved to Sprucewood Health Care Center in 1994.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Roy in infancy,
Charles Martin Cox and William Moten Cox. Survivors include one brother,
Hassel Warren Cox of Abingdon, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Zola)
Layman, Assiniboia, SK Canada, Mrs. Harold (Ruby) Mohr of Norman, Ill.,
Mrs. Kate King of Springfield, Ill.; one half-sister, Mrs. George (Lucille)
Potter of Macomb, Ill. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday,
June 12, 1998 at the Irenia Cox Cemetery, Willis, Va. Visitation will be

Warren "Bud" Eldridge Cox, 80, went home to be with
the Lord on Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was born on August 18, 1934 to the
late Warren and Guida Cox. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter,
Misty Jo Cox. Bud was a carpenter by trade, and he loved his family and
many friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mavis, and
children, Warren "Bo" (Ann), Lloyd (Becky), Christine (John)
Benson, Eldon (Leslie); five grandchildren, Angie (Matt), Travis (Leslie),
Jessica (Devon), Amanda (Joel), Michael (Amie); 12 great-grandchildren;

Mavis Corrine Cox
Mavis Corrine Cox, 83, of Willis, went home to be with the
Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. She was born on May 22, 1937, to the late
Clova Bolt Dalton. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58
years, Warren "Bud" Cox; granddaughter, Misty Jo Cox; brother,
Venston Dalton; and sisters, Mabel Boyd and Lareda Quesenberry.
"Rean" was the oldest of nine siblings. She was born and raised
in the Buffalo Mountain community, which she dearly loved. She was a loving
wife and devoted mother to her children. When asked what made her happy,
she said "Family". Rean also opened up her home and heart to her
many extended family and friends throughout her life. Welcoming everyone
with kindness, open arms and a wonderful smile, those moments will be
missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Warren
"Bo" (Ann), Lloyd (Becky), Christine (John) Benson, and Eldon
(Leslie); five grandchildren, Angie (Matt), Travis (Samantha), Jessica
(Devon), Amanda, and Michael (Amie); 14 great-grandchildren; brothers,
Norman Dalton, William Dalton, Earl Dalton, and Franklin Dalton; and
sister, Wanda Linkous. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday,
March 6, 2021, in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Danny
Phillips and Pastor Vernon Dalton officiating. Interment followed in the
