Jesse Gallimore Family
(2 known wives)
1. Gallimore, Jesse |
Parents: Samuel & Martha G. (Stanley) Gallimore. 1803 Birth: 8-17-1803 Carroll Co., VA. 1824 Marriage #1: Jesse Gallimore m. Jane Quesenberry 2-29-1824 Grayson Co., VA. Virginia “Jenny” “Jane” Quesenberry, d/o Moses & Elizabeth (unknown) Quesenberry. Other known children of Jesse & Virginia “Jenny” “Jane” (Quesenberry) Gallimore and there may be more: o Nancy Gallimore m. George B. Y. Montgomery 11-1-1857 Carroll Co., VA. Sarah Jennings or Iddings, d/o unknown. [iddings] I really
don’t know if much if anything about Sarah before 1850 & her subsequent
marriage to Jesse Gallimore. She may have b. born a Jennings or the widow of
a Jennings. The “I”
& “J” were very distinct in 1850 & with the double d’s I would say
Sarah is clearly noted as an “Iddings” but I believe from subsequent
documents she was a Jennings but again, born a Jennings or the widow of a
Jennings remains a question for this compliler. Some think
she was m. to a S. “Jennings” in Carroll Co., VA. I haven’t found a record
for this marriage. I did find a marriage of Jonathan Iddings to Sarah Howry
11-15-1832 Floyd Co., VA by Michael Howry. All
children were b. in Floyd Co., VA so one would think there would be an J. or
S. Iddings or Jennings in Floyd 1840 but not so. However, there is a Jonathan
“Jennings” noted to be in Grayson Co., VA 1840. This is from an index so need
to check further. Cox desc
believe Sarah’s daughter Ursula was a “Jennings”, and indeed, she and another
sibling married as Jennings. 1860 Residence: Floyd Co., VA, Indian Valley PO, H991: …… Gallimore, Jessee 57 yo w/m miller, b. VA, $0/60, cannot read or write, HOH. ……… Sarah 40 yo w/f, b. who needed a home, food and family. She and Les took several boys into their
home, loving them and raising them as their own. She was a Mother and grandma
to many. She enjoyed cooking for the employees, sales persons, cats and dogs
at Wills Ridge Supply. She loved God and said many times, "I want people
who pray for me to believe when they pray." Proverbs 31:28 says it so
well. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also,
and he praiseth her." 2009 Burial: Beaver Creek Cemetery, SR 730 off SR 8, Floyd Co., VA. |

[bond] 2015 Death: 4-28-2015 of Floyd Co., VA. 2015 Obit: Floyd Press, The (VA) - Thursday, April 30, 2015 [GenealogyBank.com] Charles Grant Gallimore FLOYD, Va. Charles Grant Gallimore, age 86, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was born on December 11, 1928 in Floyd County, VA to Cordle and Stella Gallimore. Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters, and three brothers. He is survived by his faithful wife of 68 years, Oneda Bond Gallimore. He enjoyed clearing trails through the woods so he could visit each of his five children and their spouses: daughter, Linda (Bob) Mitchell; son, Benny (Carolyn) Gallimore; son, Michael (Elaine) Gallimore; daughter, Judy (Mel) Bowden; and son, Randy (Marilyn) Gallimore. He was also blessed with 12 grandchildren: Teresa (Kevin) Sweeney, Mark (Kathy) Gallimore, Sherry (Randy) Quesenberry, John (Michele) Gallimore, Brian (Becky) Huff, Robin (Tater) Thompson, Tina Marshall, Michael (Debra) Gallimore, Paul (April) Gallimore, Matthew (Jessica) Gallimore, Mary Shelton, and Sara (Justin) Coleman. More blessings include 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and another great-great-grandchild on the way, a sister, Isabel Shelor, a brother, Roger (Erma Jean) Gallimore, both of Christiansburg , a sister-in-law, Irene Gallimore of Floyd, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a special "adopted daughter" Sue Wheeler and family. Daddy's working hands were evidence of his years as a farmer, gardener, woodworker and whatever else he set his mind to do. He was a master gardener who, along with Mother, grew fruits and vegetables to share with the family as well as with many neighbors and friends. His urgency to plant their garden this year will no doubt yield a bountiful crop. As he fashioned wooden crosses, he carefully inscribed the words "God loves us all" on many of them. He gave many away as a means of sharing his faith. Now he has traded those crosses for a crown. Whatever his hands found to do, he did it with all his might. He was a family man. His love for all his family was often manifested in things he made. Taking old scrap materials, he made many things for his grandchildren to enjoy in their picnic area and playground in the woods, which became a favorite gathering spot for many. The birds also found refuge in the many birdhouses Daddy built, and he found joy in feeding them each day. Though our hearts are broken, we can rejoice in the promise that we will one day be reunited because of what Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die." A Funeral service was held at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, 3883 Alum Ridge Road, Floyd, on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Roy Turpin, Brian Turpin, and Mike Gallimore. (src: delayed birth record) 1930 Residence: Mercer Co., WVA with parents. 1940 Residence: Montgomery Co., VA with parents. 1950 Marriage #1: Elvie Gallimore m. George W. Jones 3-3-1950 Guilford Co., NC. He 23 yo w/m of Blacksburg, VA, s/o E. R. Jones, living in Chester, VA, & Dorma Jones, dec’d. She 21 yo w/f of Blacksburg, VA, d/o Payton & Maudie Gallimore, both living & residents of Blacksburg, VA. Richmond, Va. George Wilson Jones never met a stranger. Even while making a quick stop at a convenience store or eating at a restaurant, within minutes Mr. Jones befriended customers and employees. "I ran into him at a 7-Eleven, and he was talking to all the people in line checking out," said a daughter, Susan Jones Ryan of Clemmons, N.C. "As they left, they said, 'Goodbye, Mr. Jones.'" Mr. Jones, who represented Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights in the House of Delegates for 16 years, died Saturday. He was 83. A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Jones was first elected to the General Assembly in 1969, and one of his first fights was opposing Richmond's annexation of portions of Chesterfield in 1970. The city eventually annexed nearly 23 square miles of the county, including Mr. Jones' home. "In order for dad to represent the people of Chesterfield and Colonial Heights, we had to sell our home and move back to the county," said Ryan. "It was really important to him, serving the people of Chesterfield, that he'd leave the home he built for his family." Mr. Jones, who served in the Army Air Forces in the Philippines, headed Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign in Virginia. After that successful election campaign, Mr. Jones fondly reminisced about meeting with Reagan and strategizing for the election, said a daughter, Rixey Jones of Atlanta. In the House, he became the senior Republican on the Finance Committee, where he involved himself in a number of finance-related bills. “He was feisty, and he liked to mix it up," said Sen. Stephen H. Martin, R-Chesterfield. Martin was elected to the House of Delegates in 1987, defeating the Democrat who had beaten Mr. Jones. After Jones was defeated, he turned his attention to the Dale Ruritan Club, where he served several terms as president and a zone governor. For more than 30 years, Mr. Jones, a manufacturers' representative, owned and operated George W. Jones Co. and continued to work five days a week until his death, his daughters said. "Despite our best efforts, we never could get dad to retire," said Ryan. Away from his life as a politician and a businessman, Mr. Jones enjoyed gardening -- many dogwoods and azaleas he propagated were transplanted to his daughters' homes -- and spending time with family and friends on the Rappahannock River. During the full bloom of spring, many people stopped by Mr. Jones' Chesterfield home to take pictures or just to see the yard. It was the river that was a second home to him, where he taught many people how to water-ski. "It was a place where we all loved to go, but especially him," said a daughter, Anne Jones Nowak of Atlanta. "He had his own sailboat and he enjoyed the water. That was just a great place for all of us to go." In addition to his daughters, survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elvie Gallimore Jones of Chesterfield; a sister, Annette Jones Conner of Elgin, S.C.; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road in Chesterfield. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
