A graduate of Great Bridge High School, where he lettered in football and track, he was a scholarship punter with the University of Richmond where he was number eight in the country in punting average. He retired from Ford Motor Co. as a supervisor and a member of the Masons and Shriners. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Surviving are his loving wife, Gayle Rhodes Pratt; a son; a granddaughter; four sisters, Sophronia "Sis" Parker and her husband Rodger, Dickie Kendrick and her husband Ralph, Josey Chaney and her husband Bill and Nancy Pratt; two brothers, Norman Pratt and his wife Blanche and Richard "Budd" Pratt and his wife Jean; a sister-in-law, Doris Pratt; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fella and Stacy Rhodes; sister-in-law, Jo Brickhouse; and many adoring nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Pratt. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Moseley officiating. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Pratt; her parents; and siblings. She is survived by her children, Galen A. Pratt, Jr. and Carolyn A. Pratt, both of Northridge, Calif.; half-brother, Kenneth Evers of Midland, Texas; and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Freeman proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War and then served until 1956 in the Army Reserves. Retired in 1992 from John Hancock Steel, he was a very quiet man whose actions spoke louder than words. He was always there to help his family, friends and neighbors. He loved the outdoors and he loved to piddle in his workshop and is perhaps best noted for his mastery of woodworking as evidenced by numerous grandfather clocks and furniture in family and friend's homes. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Rosie Pratt; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Marie Pratt; daughter, Sharon Pratt; grandson and granddaughter, Joshua and Amber Pratt; brother and sisters-in-law, Lawton and Helen Pratt, Mary Pratt, and Violet Pratt; sisters and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Paul Gunter, Mary P. Buckner, and Pauline Poff; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by beloved cat (daughter), Skittles; and grand-kitties, Belle and Jingles. Flowers are appreciated, however memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society .
