BLUEFIELD — Maxine Joyce "Mac" Colo, 83, of Maple Lane, Bluefield, WV, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at Westwood Center.

Born September 21, 1931 in McDowell Co., WV, she was a daughter of the late Minor McNeil and Vergie Bowlick. Mrs. Colo was a Head Cashier at Kroger for 35 years, and she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield. She filled the role of mother and grandmother to many people even though she did not have children of her own. Mrs. Colo also enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Colo; sisters, Mary Belcher and Brooksie Ferguson; and brother, Charles Chatman.

Survivors include her sisters, Louise Shank of Roanoke, VA, Mabel Light of Salem, VA, and Lois Basham from Christiansburg, VA; brothers, Maynard "Casey" McNeil of Washington, NJ, and Howard McNeil of Missouri; special nephew who took care of her for the last three years of her life, Albert Belcher; and three special great-nephews, Aaron, Justin and Blake Belcher.

The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Howard Sumner McNeil, 97, went to be with his creator and Lord Jesus Christ on August 2, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 6 o'clock until 7 o'clock in the evening. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.

Howard was born October 18, 1918 to Minor and Corinne Light McNeil of Check, Virginia. He joined the Army Air Force on September 12, 1941. Howard met Ruby Gardenhire in Amarillo, Texas while in the service and they were married on May 8, 1944. They lived in Dumas, Texas where he worked for Diamond Shamrock as an operator. McNeil Rentals was his secondary job, whereas he provided homes for others to live in and continued to finance these homes for many families. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Howard and Ruby had 2 sons, deceased as infants, and 3 daughters, Debra and Larry Tedford of Olathe, Kansas, Majhaunta and Johnny Edgmon of Highlandville, Missouri, and Camelia and James Elliott of Pilot, Virginia. He has 5 grandchildren, Micah Tedford of Kansas, Malachi and Beth Elliott of Texas, Faith Elliott Brantley and Jim Brantley of Colorado, Olivia Tedford of Kansas, and Elizabeth Tedford of Kansas. He was blessed with 2 great grandchildren, Joanna and Samuel Elliott of Austin, Texas.

He is survived by his sisters, Mabel Light of Salem, Va, Lois Basham of Christiansburg, VA, Louise Shank of Roanoke, VA, and brother, Dr. Maynard ''Casey'' McNeil and wife, Carol, of Washington, New Jersey. He had one brother, deceased, Jack McNeil of northern Virginia. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Andy Gardenhire and wife, Patricia of Memphis, Texas. He has many nieces, nephews, and cousins that he was close to. Special friends who were considered family that spent many hours with Howard while he lived in Missouri include Theresia Johns of Bullard, Texas, Breann and Cooper D Hargrove, 6, of Strafford, Mo, and Grace Kessinger, 1, of Highlandville, MO.

Her 95 years of life were spent enjoying and serving her family. Mrs. Ida Hoyt Stotesberry McNeil, 94, a longtime resident of Hopewell, died peacefully after a period of declining health on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, surrounded by family and friends.
She was a faithful member of the Cawson Street Church of Christ here for over 65 years and a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
She was the widow of James R. McNeil to whom she was married for 65 years. Born in Pungo (Beaufort County) N.C. on Sept. 10, 1912, she was the daughter of Thomas Berkley and Mosella Elizabeth Gardner Stotesberry.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nollie Adams and Nora Wade, and a brother, Thomas Bennie Stotesberry. She leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Hazel Ray McNeil Miller and husband, Harry, James David McNeil, Velda Victoria McNeil, and Daniel Ross McNeil and his wife, Elaine; three grandchildren, Harry Arnold Miller III, Rebecca Jane Miller Stuckey and her husband, John, and Tracey Jean McNeil Powell and her husband, Ricky; two step- grandchildren, Matthew Elam and Eric Elam; four great-grandchildren, Dana Leann Stuckey, Suzanne Michelle Stuckey, Kaitlyn Marie Miller and Karen Elizabeth Powell; two step-great-grandchildren, J. R. Powell and Brandon Powell; and a brother Thomas Berkley Stotesberry Jr. of California.

Maye Fern Clower McNeil, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 29, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Clarence William McNeil, four sisters, Rachel Lawrence, Edith Maxey, Lala Eanes and June Eanes, two brothers, Oliver Clower and Orville Clower. She was a life-long resident of the Terry's Fork Community in Floyd County. She was born May 11, 1914 to the late William and Annie Cower. She was an avid reader, who also enjoyed tending her many flowers. She faithfully attended the Piedmont PH Church for over 40 years. She is survived to two sons, Wendell Clarence McNeil and his wife Christine, Neville Winston McNeil and his wife Roxanne, all of Check; one daughter, Donna Jean McNeil Flinchum and her husband Jessie of Pilot; four grandchildren, who knew her as "Ome", William Ross Flinchum and wife Judy, Jeffery Lynn Flinchum, Tammy McNeil Sapp and husband Greg, Christopher Scott McNeil; and two great-granddaughters, Lauren M. Sapp and Kelsey L. Sapp. She is also survived by one sister, Hazel Graham; three sisters-in-law, Ida McNeil, Inez Clower and Dolores McNeil and one brother-in-law, John T. McNeil. DEATON: Lily C. Deaton, 90, of Bayard, entered eternal rest Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at Silver City Care Center. She was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Lordsburg to Ballard and Minnie C. Mc- Neil. She had a good life and always had a beautiful smile. She loved her family, her hobbies, and to garden. She fought a long battle and is at peace now. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Gardner, of Bayard, and Sandra McDougall, of New Jersey; granddaughter, Christina Barker, of California; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Barker, of California; grandson, James McDougall, of New Jersey; her nephew, Rodger Huffman, and wife, Michele; and her sisters-in-law, Yvonne McNeil, Jacklyn McNeil, and Patricia McNeil. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Deaton; three brothers, James, Dale and Gene McNeil; and one sister, Nelda Huffman. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Bayard from 1-3 p.m. with Pastor Mark Stevenson officiating. Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.
