great-grandsons, Brandon and Wyatt Gearhart, Matthew Vest; and four sisters,
Clara Conner, Check, Estelle Janney, Pilot, Erma Jean and Wilford Vest,
Check, Glenna and Clyde Nichols, Bent Mountain. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Lewis Clower, parents, Hubert and Bernie Lawrence and brothers,
Lee and Ray Lawrence. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Huffville
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lane Spigener and the Rev. Dale Bowman
officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call
Monday at Gardner Funeral Home, where the family will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, July 23, 2011, Chlorine Mae Martin Clower, of Riner, went home to be
with our Lord. She was born January 3, 1924 to Isaac Irvin and Martin Lola
Angle Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Clower, a son,
Kenneth Clower, four sisters, and four brothers. She was a student of Double Springs School in Check and was employed for 40
years at Blue Ridge Overall Factory. She was a wonderful cook and hostess,
and if you left her table hungry, it was your own fault. She was everyone's
grandmother. Left to mourn her passing are one son, E.J. Clower and wife
Deborah Shepherd Clower; daughter-in-law, Joyce Bledsoe Clower; two
granddaughters, Kristina Clower and Kaitlin Clower; and one
great-granddaughter, Hayley Sarver. She is also survived by James E. and
Connie Martin, Vernon and Sandra Martin, Lena and Archie McAlexander, Ocie
and Dalton Thompson, Jane Ernestine Nichols, Donna King, Stanley and Carol
Clower, Opaldine and Donald Gearheart, and family and friends too numerous to
mention. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Riner
Fire Department, PO Box 11, Riner, VA 24149 or to the Riner Rescue Squad, PO
Box 858, Riner, VA 24149. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 25,
2011 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be
conducted on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Horne
Funeral Home with the Rev. James Bradley and the Rev. Neal Turner

Roanoke Times, The (VA) - Monday, May 30, 2005 Maye Fern Clower McNeil, went to be
with the Lord Sunday, May 29, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband
of 42 years, Clarence William McNeil, four sisters, Rachel Lawrence, Edith
Maxey, Lala Eanes and June Eanes, two brothers, Oliver Clower and Orville
Clower. She was a life-long resident of the Terry's Fork Community in Floyd
County. She was born May 11, 1914 to the late William and Annie Cower. She
was an avid reader, who also enjoyed tending her many flowers. She faithfully
attended the Piedmont PH Church for over 40 years. She is survived to two
sons, Wendell Clarence McNeil and his wife Christine, Neville Winston McNeil
and his wife Roxanne, all of Check; one daughter, Donna Jean McNeil Flinchum
and her husband Jessie of Pilot; four grandchildren, who knew her as "Ome", William Ross Flinchum and wife Judy, Jeffery
Lynn Flinchum, Tammy McNeil Sapp and husband Greg, Christopher Scott McNeil;
and two great-granddaughters, Lauren M. Sapp and Kelsey L. Sapp. She is also
survived by one sister, Hazel Graham; three sisters-in-law, Ida McNeil, Inez
Clower and Dolores McNeil and one brother-in-law, John T. McNeil. The funeral
will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the Wood Funeral Home in Floyd, with
the Rev. Ed Richardson and Rev. David Goad officiating, with interment in the
Wilson Cemetery. Thanks to Heritage Hall staff and especially Ann, Roberta
and Kaki. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wood

15, 2000, following a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was preceded
in death by his wife of 58 years, Reba A. Clower, and two sisters. He was a
faithful member of Abundant Life Fellowship of Pilot. He was a veteran of
World War II and he retired from Burlington Industries. He is survived by two
daughters and a son-in-law, Geraldine Clower, Dianne and Wendell Light; one
son and daughter-in-law, Harless Clower, Jr. and Lola; four grandchildren,
Michelle Lyons and husband, Steve, Brian Light and fiancé, Teresa Burton,
Nathan Clower, Amanda Light; one great-grandchild, Zachary; one sister,
Mattie Graham; a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank
Claudia and the staff at New River Valley Hospice for their wonderful care.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Horne Funeral Chapel,
conducted by the Reverends Layne Board, Leon Alley and Larry Meadors.
Interment will follow in Huffville Cemetery. The family will receive friends
from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
Floyd County Rescue Squad and New River Valley Hospice. Arrangements are
