Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Edward Light, of Blacksburg, Rifton and Edith Light, of Indian Valley, and David and Carol Light, of Shawsville, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Bobby Bratton, of Dublin, Va.; sister, Ocie Conner, of Check, Va.; eight grandchildren, 29 greatgrandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Kenneth Poston officiating. Interment will follow at Piedmont Cemetery. Dorothy Mildred (Light) Johnson, 95, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at home in Roanoke. Beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her, she was born on April 18, 1915, the daughter of Page Morris Light and Ida Shank Light of Locust Grove in Floyd. She married Elmer Randolph Johnson in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 20, 1945, and moved to Smyth County in 1955, where she remained for the next 40 years. A retired Smyth County building contractor, her husband preceded her in death in 1993.

She was a graduate of Eskylund's in Roanoke and a former hairdresser. She also worked as a retail associate with downtown Heironimus and Ward's of Baltimore. She will long be remembered by those whose lives were so lovingly touched by her Christian testimony. A child convert at age 12, she attended church most of her life, serving as Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and Ladies Auxiliary secretary.

Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Alma "Sunny"Light; and three brothers, Roy Marshall Light, Cecil  CorelleLight and James Wilbur Light.

Survived by a large, widespread family who hold in common their love and admiration for her, she leaves behind to cherish her memory, a daughter, Linda Kay Smith and son-in-law, Ronald Thomas Smith, of Chesterfield, and another daughter, Carolyn Sue Underwood and son-in-law, Winston Lee Underwood, of Roanoke and their children, Sharon Leigh (Dean) Ramsey, Wake Forest, N.C., Karen Sue (Jeff) Strom, Jonathan (Tori) Underwood, Christopher (Candice) Underwood, all of Roanoke, and Jason (Cheryl) Underwood, of Christiansburg; 11 grandchildren, Jessi, Emily, Spencer, Andrew, Chloe, Caden, Elijah, Micah, Caleb, Blake and Sierra.

A celebration of her life will be held at New Life Christian Ministries, 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, with Pastor Jeff Copper officiating. Cecil Correll Light, 88, of Roanoke, went to meet our Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 1 a.m. He was born on January 16, 1917 on a farm in Floyd County where he grew up. His parents were the late Page Morris and Ida Shank Light of Locust Grove. He worked in West, Va. and later in Baltimore with the shipyard. He served in the U.S. Army in the 41st Division of the 162nd in WWII as a Staff Sergeant and was a member of VA VFW Post 1264. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Alma "Sunny" Ethel Light, brothers, Roy Marvin and James "Jimmy" Wilber Light, and stepfather, T. S. McNeil. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Priscilla L. Burgess; grandson, Jonathan Burgess; granddaughter, Jessica Burgess; sister, Mildred L. Johnson; nieces, Carolyn Sue Underwood, Linda Kay Smith, Elizabeth Anne Harris; nephews David Light, Rifton Light, Edward Light; sister-in-law Odell Light; and numerous neighbors and friends. The family would like to express a special thanks to care-givers Linda Earles, Kathy Cruff, Julie Klemm and Frances "Franky" Riggle, and to the wonderful and caring nursing staff of the Veterans Care Center in Salem. He will be long remembered by those who loved him as a faithful Christian, a caring neighbor and an honorable patriot who loved God, family, and country. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
